FlowerMama
Well I pulled the trigger. One more left on ebay!! I haven't checked anything in a loooong time, not eBay or VIPReef, anything- I bought so many before and with the tank equipment I have no room on my credit card. I had a spawning right before I moved the nems down to the basement 60 so I'm hoping something came out of it. Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
Do RFA really come in patterns like that? So cool! The stripes remind me of a Warty Anenome or Gem anenome. 1 Quote Link to comment
FlowerMama
I've never seen them striped myself. Quote Link to comment
keydiver
Keydiver can you confirm that is really an RFA from your dives? Or, at least a Caribbean/Florida anemone? I can't although they show up once in a while down here. I believe it's a RFA due to the shape of the tentacles (The similar species seem to be more haphazard). I've only ever seen two that look like the one in the picture so who knows, it could be mislabeled as it happens at the time Quote Link to comment
cindyp
love this thread! i just got two yesterday for my new 8g nano and i might have room for a third if all goes well with these first two. i'd LOVE a deep red one for sure. here is my "cheaper" RFA. and here's the expensive orange tri-color one. when the light is on, it's smaller like this, wedged into the rock. after i turned off the tank lights, it opened up like below. then this morning, i noticed when it was open, but when i turned on the lights, it sort of squished back again. do you think i should move it to a more shaded area? it is fully exposed to light right now. i will be trying to feed them mysis shrimp for the first time today! 2 Quote Link to comment
cindyp
so my first feeding went very well. though it was challenging using the pipette i had. the turkey baster was simply too big. i had to get something in between. the orange one took maybe 4-5 pieces of small mysis shrimp and the bigger one ate maybe 3? but i'm glad they ate. i plan on feeding once a week. cindyp
since your tank is small try to feed a day before your water change great idea! at this point, i'm actually a little afraid i don't have enough nutrients in there! ha! but i'm sure that tune will change soon. i've no fish, so the feedings are limited in this tank. my sexy shrimps also ran off with some of the mysis shrimps. i won't judge them for their cannibalism. You don't even need a pipette if you don't want. Make sure hands clean and just drop them onto their tentacles. They won't hurt you. 1 Quote Link to comment

BulkRate
I find it's nearly impossible to keep my hands "clean enough"... for anything these days. With our second child over the past two years there's always some kind of sanitary product residue on my hands (diaper cream, wipe cleanser, lotion) still detectable when I go to the tank. When I'm done in the tank, there's always that aquarium water smell unless I scrub down a few layers. Switched to using powder-free nitrile gloves with textured fingertips - so much easier to work on the marine critters (and probably just plain a good idea in general). Snap one on, rinse with RO and off to the races! My dentist is looking into ordering me some with a 15" cuff - that's far enough up the arm to reach the bottom of the tank. Bonus in that they're exam grade - feels almost like bare skin rather than the "bag-like" coralife gloves + still disposable. Tongs will also work for feeding bits to anemones, as will a pair of melamine chopsticks. I use these when I don't have time to putter around with anything else in the tank. So... most of the time, I guess. Those are some beautiful anemones, cindyp. Especially for "starter" finds! Best advice I can give as a smaller tank owner - be choosy and only get the most amazing (to you) things to put in it! 1 Quote Link to comment

famousdan314
So I was mistaken, I actually own two maxi mini carpet nems and not rfa's. Lol, hopefully they will have some rock flower nems in stock at my LFS soon as I've seen them before usually in red. Quote Link to comment

I notice they're also wanting too much for just plain red anyway. I'm looking for one day for nature to make me a blue on blue, sky blue with turquoise or something. Right? It's not too much to ask. 2 Quote Link to comment

FlowerMama
I'm thinking of definitely doing the conch but also a harlequin serpent star for the rock flower tank. I think both would be good for the sand, don't ya think? And a small pin cushion urchin or west indian sea egg as they're aggressive algae eaters. 1 Quote Link to comment
