Yes, definitely get a tattoo. I can't tell you how strangely confused I am by my mother liking mine! I seriously don't know how to deal with it. Polish mother from Poland.

There are so many pretty black/white so you don't have to get it colored. For me somehow it gave me more feeling of confidence, like I didn't back down. One more instance of going forward in life and knocking things off my bucket list. I've been in a wonderful mood since I got it.

I really did like that first zipper tattoo up there immensely.

Simple is more gorgeous and more defined.

And Happy Anniversary again. Looks like a perfect time. I'd love to stay in a yurt. Ok, one more thing to add to my bucket list. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks Annette!

I really like the linework on that version you posted. I need to put that on my Pinterest board I've started of tattoo ideas. (For some reason it isn't allowing me to pin it right now though.)

Looks like an awesome getaway! Hard to believe that is in Ohio!!!!! Is the yurt just a bedroom? No plumbing?

Oh it is definitely glamping... each yurt is fully plumbed with a sink, shower and toilet as well as having AC, heat, a ceiling fan and a Keurig. I think the grand yurt also had a fridge. Didn't matter that we didn't have a fridge though -- there was a concierge yurt nearby for ice, wine, and other beverages. :) Oh yeah, I didn't mention, no one under 21 allowed in the yurts.

Here is one of the double twin yurts (we had a queen bed in ours):

nomad-ridge-double-beds---g-jones-columb

At the peak of the yurt, above the ceiling fan was a skylight. The bed was positioned so that as we lay in it, we could look out the skylight at the night sky. Well, my husband could. Without my glass I couldn't see the stars.

Behind the wall is the sink, shower, and toilet:

I learned a new word today...."glamping". LOL

Makes me think of the last time I slept in a tent. Not glamping by any means LOL. But our tent has the option to uncover the top (still screened) and you can look at the stars. It's completely open like sleeping under the stars but with some protection from bugs :). Anyways...I didn't sleep at all, or hardly at all that night, because I was fascinated with the night sky. We could see EVERYTHING. It was amazing :).

Glad I could add to everyone's vocabulary! ;)

I took some pictures of my new Blasto this morning. Only $20 at the LFS! My cloves polyps hadn't opened up yet. They like to sleep late.

I also played around with some filters...

That is a Tyree toadstool from Zia. It is busy dropping babies.

And finally all of my Blasto wellsi:

They actually make yurts in Asheville here and you can buy and rent them out too. Pretty cool. See, I told you I was going to put it on my bucket list.....I just need a honey to spend some time with in one.

So, uh, I bought another Blasto tonight...

Cherry Corals posted a colony of really pretty Blastos a few weeks ago. Alas, waaay more than I would spend on a single coral. It looks like they fragged it up though. I nabbed one of the frags tonight. Not sure yet when delivery will be. Here is the picture from their site:

Sweet! I tried only once and while everything else loved it in my little Evolve 8 tank, those didn't. Couldn't find the right spot for them and they died. With blasto mountain there you certainly found their sweet spot.

Hi Mirya, the blastos look fantastic. Some are colors I have not seen before. How is the porthole working out? I'm still waiting for the brackets and mounts, my canon doesn't fit properly yet. I did take some test shots, you have to learn how to work it, that's for sure.

The Yurt vacation (is that even a term?) seems like a nice relaxing time. How do you know all this stuff and the husband hasn't even been near a horse? That was cute.

The winged victory is a beautiful statue, the tattoo would be large or certainly a wide tattoo. A labor of love there, I imagine it will take several sessions. I have small tattoos in a couple of spots, been meaning to have one of them elaborated but it's not something on the priority list. I actually had laser removal done on one of them to lighten the color. I didn't want it gone, just lightened.

Not the BIG big news that I'll post at the end, but an Ophelia update: She had a recheck today and is STILL IN REMISSION! :D

Yeah, all the Blastos -- whether they are wellsi or merletti -- are super happy in this tank. :) Makes me happy since I hear they don't like some people. Now Cyphastrea I've never been able to keep happy. They never get any polyp extension and then their colors get poopy. Both times I've tried, I've ended up giving them away because I was afraid they would die on me.

And those fancy tents well B) but that's not camping........

Yeah, it isn't camping at all. More like, a night in a funky hotel room. But surrounded by nature. Was pretty awesome regardless of what you call it. :)

The porthole is a little tricky with my current tanks. Both the display tanks are very narrow - 8.5" front to back. As soon as I put the porthole in, the porthole blocks the light. IDK if I will be able to use the porthole in this tank (the Nuvo8) at all. I think I will if I just reposition my light when I want to take pictures. Its on a gooseneck, so that should be doable. For my other tank (the Nuvo24), that tank is getting upgraded soon to a tank that is 15" front to back, so that will make photographing easier. The porthole should be a piece of cake to take pictures in my frag tank. There is just a bit of GHA in there right now so the tank isn't photogenic.

I know all the stuff I do about animals from being a vet. (Even if I tried to forget everything about horses and cows after I learned I passed my board exam. ;) ) Even though I didn't want to be a vet when I was a kid, I was always dragging critters home from the nearby field and stream. Growing up I had frogs, crayfish, snakes, turtles, and raised Monarch butterflies. My husband on the other hand has a really different background from me. He grew up in Trinidad. When he was young they did live in a more rural area and had a small hobby farm. A cow for milk, chickens for eggs, dogs for protection, and cats for mousing. All the animals were considered working animals, not really pets. The dogs and cats never came indoors. It wasn't until we started living together that he was exposed to having indoor animals (at the time that was a cat and two chinchillas!). Now he and Ophelia are pretty inseparable. And he is a total enabler for me with the fish tanks -- encouraging me to buy whatever I want. The only caveat being that he doesn't do any tank maintenance. (Which is going to become and issue in a bit. I'll explain later.)

Here we are at the end of our trail ride:

That tattoo will be interesting once I eventually get it. I'm going to get it on the outside of my lower left leg. A 3/4 view of the statue. Kinda like this picture, but I don't think I want the tattoo quite this big:

Now, for my BIG NEWS...

I've been mostly unemployed for the past 2.5 months. I have a temporary position that I will be starting in about 2 weeks though! And the position has the potential to turn into a permanent position if we find each other mutually likeable!

As I mentioned, I'm a veterinarian. Not a general practitioner though. I'm a small animal (cat and dog) internal medicine specialist. (I do things like endoscopies, treat endocrine diseases, liver disease, kidney disease, immune system disorders.) I have also been a faculty member at two veterinary schools -- one in Canada and most recently at OSU -- as I enjoy teaching as much as I enjoy being a vet. I've wanted another faculty position rather than going to private practice. Faculty positions are few are far between though (there are only 30 vet schools in the US) compared to private practice. However, I have lucked out and found this temp position is at a veterinary school. So, where am I going?

North Carolina State University!

Down in the state of FlowerMama and NanoBox! (Though Annette will be on the other side of the state from me.)

Since this is a temporary position for now, I am going to move down and live in corporate housing. I will probably be working 3 weeksish at a time at the NCSU vet clinic, then have a week off during which I will come back to Ohio. Husband, Ophelia, and fishtanks will stay in Ohio for now. A little bittersweet as I'll really miss all of them while I'm gone.

My husband is comfortable taking care of Ophelia while I'm gone. She does get daily medication. The fishtanks though terrify him. He is pretty convinced he is going to kill everything. Things are pretty automated. He already is used to checking the ATO containers occasionally. I'll just have to teach him how to feed. My tanks only eat frozen -- the fish have always given the middle finger to pellets unfortunately. I do have some NPS (Dendro, Balano, spiral wire) that he will need to target feed. I don't think I'll have him feed the LPS.

He is not going to want to do water changes though. He has a "my hands do not get wet" rule when it comes to the tanks. I think I'm going to hire the LFS to come out for water changes once a month. Then I'll do a water change when I'm home roughly once a month. That means a water change every 2 weeks. The tanks will do well with that. I know they get pissy if I stretch a water change out to 3 weeks.

Yup, I may be a permanent fixture of NC. I'll find out in a few months! I disagree with you on the moving being exciting bit though! While I've been at my past two addresses for awhile (3.5 years in Columbus and before that 5.5 years in Canada), before that I had moved 5 times over the course of 5 years.

At least knowing I have a move in my future has forced me to do some cleaning. Speaking of which, I have a few non-fish things for sale. Might as well plug them in my own thread. You can view what I have for sale here: ktefft.tictail.com. I don't have shipping enabled on that site, but if you see something that interests you, PM or e-mail me your address and I can see if we can work out shipping.

I've moved some stupid number... Like 20 times in the last 15 years. I'm so over it.

But good luck!!

Moving stinks.....I remember moving my 55 gallon years ago when I first got into Saltwater......Have been at the same place now for 17yrs. Should have moved about 10 years ago :)

Good luck with the move and hopefully not to much of a PITA to move tanks......

The NC opportunity sounds promising, congratulations and good luck with that. The distance and travelling will work out, I'm sure the hubby will be fine with the tanks too. Get him to create a profile on here and post any questions we will be there for him.

Had a friend over this afternoon. She wanted to take Ophelia for a walk because her mind was so blown by the thought of walking a cat. I told her to prepare herself for doing a lot of nothing while Ophelia sat, looked around and sniffed. Then eventually, walks 10 feet before repeating the process. :D

So, that is pretty much what happened. But, Ophelia did find a feather at one point that she tried to eat.

I moved a 90 gallon from Ft. Lauderdale to Tampa 10 years ago. That was a miserable experience! I learned a lot though. While I do not look forward to eventually moving my tanks I think I will do a better job of it.

Thanks Kat! I spoke to my LFS. They will come out at service the tanks once a month for me. I figure I will be back in town about once a month too and can clean the tanks when I'm home. So, that means the tanks will be getting water changes every other week. Which is what I do right now. I can monitor some things through my Apex and my husband is going to set-up a webcam for me. So I think things will work out. :)

So tell me more about Tictail!!!!! Has it worked well for you? I've never heard of it! Need to investigate :).

I learned of it from the listserv for OSU that I was on. Graduating students would always post up things on TicTail when they had a moving sale, then post a link to their TicTail on the listserv. What is nice about it is that it is free to set up a basic site like I did. Fees come in if you want to add apps to your TicTail. (Their are apps for things like accepting credit cards. Having it accept PayPal was free though.) It's really meant to be used as a web-based store for selling products, rather than using it like I am. But, it works good enough for what I'm doing. Everyone on the listserv is used to looking at the items on the TicTail, then e-mailing the TicTail owner with their requests for purchase. Most of the sales I've done have been cash, and I've met the person to deliver the goods.

Congrats and welcome to NC! NCSU vet school is fabulous - have taken a couple of my dogs up for specialty visits. Great staff and interns. Hope you enjoy Raliegh.

:D Thanks! I know their hospital was remodeled just a few years ago. I'm looking forward to seeing it and working there!
