One last thing on my mind is that Meerwasser seems to keep magnesium high, the other trace elements I can't detect with the comical kits.

Hope so, wanted to make a few islands. The Pukani rock was massive barely fit into my 49 G cube. I like the space for fish to swim.

Tested 24 hours post 20% water change.

Alk 3.0 RS, 3.19 Sal; Mg 1400 RS, 1470 Sal; Ca 440 RS, 450 Sal.

salinity is 34 ppt

Sal Sr 4 mg/l ( I know this works because when have dosed before I have gotten the level to 10 and 16.

RS I 0.06 (yay)

PS K is 320 (actually no color change again)

Fe is 0.0

Looks like water changes are not keeping up with trace elements. I don't know if it will make a difference, but I would at least like to keep them near sea water levels.

RS Colors program, Fe, K ordered

Will start dosing 1ml strontium daily and recheck in a week.

Will dose per instructions on everything else and recheck in a week.

Just installed the 120 degree lenses. Super easy switch since the Radion already had TIR lenses.

Going to up intensity from 55 to 65% then slowly ramp up as needed. Expecting about a 54% reduction in maximum PAR unless anyone has some words of wisdom?

Takes looking good- I really like the cubes- is that a custom build from Pico? I was surprised the test gets were actually as close as they were! Looks like your Alk. Average is around 3.0 - are you trying to raise it to keep your sps happy?

Link to comment

Goal is to keep it at 3.0. I am running All in one biopellets and am keeping the water pretty clean >1.0 NO2 and >0.10 PO4 want to make sure it is not too high.

That level seems to work well and is an easy target. I use RedSea Pro salt which keeps it around 3.0 with water changes.

Cube is the older Cadlights 50G Artisan II tank

I have not posted magnesium yet but that one has the most variability.

Link to comment

So after half dosing K, Fe and I for three days, rechecked level and they are now readable.

I- 0.06 mg/l

Fe -.15 mg/l

K- 344 mg/l

looks like water changes alone was not cutting it.

So far everything stable, too stable. Mg, Ca and Alk all stable I have not had to supplement anything, which kind worries me.

The red planets started to take off a bit, as well as the mystic sunset montipora otherwise stable.

Today will clean up MP40 and MP10, test trace elements and dose as needed.

Tank looking good, bryopisis not really coming back, coraline algae going wild.

Light looks good, holding at 70% for the past week. Will need to slowly increase intensity maybe by 5% per 2 weeks and monitor.

So I moved, tank moved, and trying to get everything back in order.

Lost the vortex control over ecosmartlive ??

Lost APEX fusion as well. got a page asking to do a number of things.

I guess starting by upgrading FirmWare.

Please read this ENTIRE PAGE before starting the update

First, a word on firmware update; it can go well, or it can go poorly. Going well means that the entire process will be complete in less than a minute; going poorly typically means desperate posts on the support forum or calls to Support.

The only difference between the two outcomes is attempting to perfom the update over a wireless connection. In the steps below where we ask you to disable WiFi, yes, we're serious, and yes, it's important.

Ok, I get it, don't try this over WiFi. Give me the details.

  1. Using the Apex web interface, back up your current configuration just in case something goes wrong:
    1. Configuration Menu
    2. Load / Save
    3. Save Configuration
  2. Download the ApexFlash disk image from here: http://www.neptunesystems.com/downloads/firmware/apex_4.33_BD14.dmg, and double-click it. Drag ApexFlash to the Applications folder.
  3. You MUST directly connect your Apex, using a network cable, to your home router. DO NOT use wireless. If connecting your Apex to your home router is not possible, see page 129 of the Apex Comprehensive Reference Manual for alternative options.
  4. Disable WiFi on your Mac by holding down the control key and clicking the WiFi icon in the upper right of the menu bar. SelectTurn Wi-Fi Off.
  5. If you're using a third party firewall, such as GlimmerBlocker, disable it.
  6. Run ApexFlash, located in the Applications folder.
  7. Search for an Apex clicking theSearch for Controllersbutton, or manually enter an Apex by clicking theAdd a Controllerbutton.
  8. Select the Apex just added in the left-hand column, and click theUpdate Firmwarebutton.
  9. After the firmware update completes successfully, click theUpdate Web Pagesbutton.
  10. Clear your browser cache history.
  11. The update process is complete. While it's still fresh in your mind, it's a great idea to take an additional configuration backup at this point, as in step 1, above.

I did this one before, it forgot to add connect Mac to router as well. But still having trouble upgrading firmware.

Finished my Salifert vs Red Sea comparison. Can find my notebook to complete the spreadsheet but what I have is pretty informative.

So using Graphpad Prizm and a Pearson correlation with two tail p value: n=14

Alkalinity

RedSea 0.06369049 Salifert 0.06369049

There is no significant difference. I am missing my February values so a large n is better. The overall trend did not change.

Following manufacture directions, taking a sample in a beaker and testing at the same time there are minimal difference in readings but the overall picture there is no significant difference between the tests.

The biggest help for the Red Sea tests was a white light or daylight to more easily identify the blue color on Ca and Mg tests at the end of the titrations:

Mg and Ca values to follow.

Aww Acropora eating flatworms destroying the A. valida, ORA miami orchid and some of the N. nasuta (SSC) :(

Dipped them in Revive, and 20-30 AEFW came off. Scrapped of eggs and toothbrushes them, Water jetted them them and back into tank. I have going to have to treat the whole tank.

Nasty little buggers.

Link to comment

Pulled the rest of the across off the rocks, close inspection and this is a widespread infestation. I bought Bayer Complete for the dip, scraped off egg and fragged the ORA miami orchid, will do serial weekly dips. I think I am going to start with ReVive. Last nights dip seemed to work really well. Maybe alternate Bayer and Revive on difference weeks.

Getting almost everything put back on the rock work.

The two small frags of the ORA Miami Orchid (aka ground zero) still tossing < 10 AEFW.

The two A. milliporas are also tossing off < 10 AEFW, all small.

The A. valida (GARF Bonsai) tossed off a few.

I plan on dipping them until no AEFW come off.

Alternating Revive and Bayer Complete (10 ml/200ml tank water)

Pics to come later today post water change craziness.

Pot of Gold Favia is growth like crazy, so are the zoanthids in the background rock.

The A. millipora are looking a lot better, just keep dropping AEFW on WC dips, still a more dips to go.

The S. pisillata's are doing great, the Milka one is growing like crazy

The A. valida is looking good and encrusting like crazy, still dropping a few AEFW on dips so not set into rock work yet. Note the two Red Planets to the back and left, the one on the left encrusting 2-3 mm/week and the one on the right had last dip today and AEFW free.

The "Reverse Sunset" monitor has also exploded and growing fast (The Mystic Sunset montipora in the back is getting a run for its money)

Finally the mystery Acropora sps "Blue Heaven" and A. granulosa are out of the dip list and played on rock work.
