atoll
Oasis was always a good shop it's just that it's got better. Orchid dottybacks have no predetermined sex you just put 2 young ones together preferably one slightly larger than the other and if possible a bit more colourful and let nature take it's course. The larger dominant one will become the male with smaller being the female. Sorry to hear about your wife Albert. I hope they find the cause quickly and a quick fix. I am on my break at work and on my phone so can't post much at the mo. 1 Quote Link to comment
albertthiel
Sorry about your wife Albert. It seems we are both nurses lately. Mine is doing much better and will come out on the boat again today. She can't get into the water yet as she can't make it up the ladder to get back on the boat. But I will go to that tide pool today again to hang out with my friends (hermit crabs, fiddler crabs, horse shoe crabs, eels, shrimp and beer cans. Yes so it seems Paul ... glad your wife is up to riding on the boat and going around with you ... that is definitely a lot better than she was a week or two ago ... Enjoy your time with all your "friends:" Albert Quote Link to comment

Paul.b
Today was a beautiful day so my wife and I went out with my friend and his wife to anchor where we always go a few yards off a tide pool in the Long Island Sound. I went to this spot yesterday and collected more amphipods that I could fit in my tank so I wasn't really collecting today. Just checking out the killer amphipods and other sea life. Our wives stayed in the boat and spoke about women things, I have no idea what that is, and don't want to. My closest friend and dive partner narrated this Spielberg film. These are videos and it was an underwater camera so you have to put your volume up. 1 Quote Link to comment

Paul.b
I have a theory. I collected to many amphipods in the Long Island Sound so I am giving a few thousand away to someone who is coming tomorrow to take them, but in the meantime I am keeping them in a bare tank as I can't put them in my reef as it is overwhelmed with them already. I have to change the water twice a day as there is no bacteria or anything else in there and these things eat so much. I think they are a fantastic, free, self maintaining clean up crew. I have collected these things all my life and I just thought of them as food, for the fish, not me although I never tasted them. I was thinking last night about this. I was thinking mostly about Supermodels but amphipods also came through. There is no algae in my tank, but there should be. I have an algae trough but there is no algae growing in it, just amphipods, tubeworms and brittle stars. I feed the amphipods in the spare tank with flakes or pellets and they are all over it like a cheap suit. A pellet has a life span as long as Lindsey Lohan's fame. I am thinking that these suckers that are all over my tank are eating any algae as soon as it grows. I could be wrong as I am wrong about most things including ways to grow hair. Amphipods are also legal as there is no commercial use for them that I know of. There is no "Save the Amphipod" movements. I am going to look for some algae and if I find some, I will put some in the little pod tank I have to see if they eat it. If they do, I will set up a small pool in my yard and raise some just for kicks because I can't harvest them in my reef. I can collect them every day but I have a life and any minute a Supermodel may come knocking at my door. This may be bigger than the internet, bigger than Myley Cyrus, more important them Spam or Hamburger helper. Video 3 Quote Link to comment

atoll
My 2 pairs of fish 2 x Possum wrasse and 2 x Orchid Dottybacks are all doing well and I am pretty certain both are true pairs. Mt 2 wrasse follow one another round most of the time as do my 2 Dottybacks. The male Dottyback does chase the female a little but no real aggression nor fin nipping etc results. The Possum wrasse and Dottybacks pay no attention to one another as well so all good good so far. . 1 Quote Link to comment

Reefwiser
Albert "old age is not for sissy's" as we all get older eyes legs and hearing fails us all. I have been haing issues with my right eye having to have shots in the eye every 6 six week> The treatment is helping though. As we get older we have more time to sit and stare at our tanks as it might be all we can do somedays. 1 Quote Link to comment

That is for sure ... and it not only the eyes and the legs At some point the "ticker" is giving us problems too it seems, at least that is what I am experiencing and so is my wife. Hopefully the shots in the eye are helping you regain your normal vision. Glad to read it. Have to take it easy for a few days and not put too much strain on my eye. Thanks for sharing Reefwsiser Albert Quote Link to comment
Paul.b
I think as I get older I am getting better. My hair is growing in nicely also. Not on my head, only in my nose and on my back and ears but it is a start. I really don't notice the pain in my legs as my hands hurt more so it kind of counter acts that. The ringing in my ears is a great help so I can not hear my wife calling. So all in all I am getting beter every day. To help with swimming, I glue gunned this tiny outboard to my back to help me swim better. I just need someone to pull the rope to start it. http://s258.photobucket.com/user/urchsearch/media/2012-01-02035344_zps88b24a58.jpg.html'> 1 Quote Link to comment

Yes I can see that Paul ... things are indeed definitely getting better for sure .. .... Now if we could figure out a few more anti-aging products or foods we would be in good shape I would say Have a great July 4th Week - End .... Hopefully that Storm will not affect your area ..
