atoll
So you paid as much in shipping as you did for the whole unit posted to within the UK? It can be adjusted both by the water and the air flow. I like that. I place two check valves since it hangs outside of the tank. So far the Blue Reef Chromis are doing well and like the constant flow of food to hunt after. Now if I could only find a quieter air supply! Les, that shipping cost is about the same that I paid to get it state-side. Thank you for posting the specs for the feeder. eitallent
Hi Eitallent, May I ask what are your thoughts and experience using this feeder and what model are you using as I see they do 3 sizes. Are they easy to set up, control and maintain? Do you hatch the brine shrimp in it or in another vessel and transfer the baby brine shrimp over to it? Did you import it or did you buy it in the US or other? Any other thoughts etc much appreciated. Thanks Les Hello, Les. At first I was put off by the acrylic tube looking crackled in some places (probably happened while cutting the acrylic tube) and the foggy drips from the bonding agent that was used to attach the various pieces together. It looks to be crudely made. The T they provide came apart while putting a water line on it. My hubby (chemist) just happenned to have the acrylic solvent required to bond it back together so it was not a total loss. Luckily both pieces were acrylic and we bonded it back together better than before. Looks aside, it is simple to set up and it works just as described. I purchased it on eBay and I have the smallest model. I do not use it to hatch the brine shrimp eggs as my room temperature is lower than the ideal hatching temperature. Besides that, the shells from the empty cysts would also be dripped into the tank along with the Artemia if it were used as a hatchery. I also use it to feed frozen CyclopEeze and shavings of Paul's frozen fish food recipe (clam and oyster). One observation I made is that the food may float at the surface of the water in the tank itself, due to surface tension i guess, unless good surface agitation is provided. My fish are very happy hunting around for food. I am very happy with it Les and recommend it especially for some one with your skills. Ercilia 2 Quote Link to comment

atoll
Hi Ercilia and thank you for your detailed reply to my questions on the feeder. I have to admit I have heard of quality control issues with Cleartides stuff and what you report is not so unusual with some parts often needing re cementing. I guess you could use shell less brine shrimp eggs but then I doubt they would stay in the feeder long enough to hatch anyway. Still it's a good idea and if it works well then great. Cleartides stuff is cheap when compared with most other aquarium stuff its true so I guess the quality of construction accounts for it. Les. Hello, Les. albertthiel
The firefish looked fine, that is the place that had the copperbands for $10.00 and Moorish Idols for $25.00. They also have percula clowns for $12.00, they got a million of them. The place has been there about 45 years and it is huge and always crowded. There are about 12 people working there and it takes a while to get waited on. Wow and those guys stay in business at those prices ... amazing ! They must sell tons and tons of fish ... do they sell online as well Paul? Albert Quote Link to comment

Ercilia Nice ... pity the build was so "basic" and that you had to fix part of it ... maybe it happened during shipping possibly ... Glad to read the fish are liking it and that you are too - not for the food coming out of it though :-) And yes shipping from the UK to the US and vice-versa IS expensive ! eitallent
Les, it is possible to hatch the eggs by filling the chamber and cutting off the flow of water with the valve. With the air pump on you can hatch the eggs and turn on the water supply when ready to feed the tank. Your tank is doing very well indeed Randi. BTW I am going to be carrying that new Red Light for night inspection of the tank that does not bother even the most light sensitive life forms and that got a real good review from Jake Adams at Reef Builders and when he says it's good, the it IS good ... Here's what it looks like ... works real well based on several reviews and should not cost a lot either ... probably around $9 or 10 depending on shipping cost from the UK to me ... more once I know for sure ... should be tonight or in the morning Albert 2 Quote Link to comment
