MeanGreenEyes
I like your mini fridge idea. I'm interested to see how it works out for you. Here's to break it down a little further and some threads that I loosely based mine off of b/c a buddy was a little confused with my explanation/description so far: In regards to the continuous feeders...a good google search will give the basic idea of them...I'm after a sleeker/more functional/more affordable long term continuous feeding option. The pump/fridge will be sitting right above the tank so that it doesn't have to travel far in the line so that there will be no risk of clogging from dried out food in the line. The replacement dual channel line is less than $20 and only needs to be replaced like once a year. A few sources that I very loosely based this feeder off of... http://algaescrubber.net/forums/showthread...uous-Feeder-DIY http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=1760416 http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/...to-feeder.html http://stonyreef.com/blog/2008/feedi...ellate-corals/ http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/inde...owtopic=307716 http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-0...ture/index.php Link to comment

MeanGreenEyes
Curious...anyone on here knowledgeable in regards to magnetic stirrers? I've found a few that look promising...found a nice battery operated one so I wouldn't have to drill a larger hole for the power supply but I'm not spending $300+ each. I would need two and they would need to fit my mini fridge. Something like these...but small as possible...preferably battery operated... http://www.sciencelab.com/page/S/PVA...1/60-370170000 http://www.sciencelab.com/page/S/PVAR/21761/50-HI180 http://www.flexiblescientific.com/FS...gnetic-Stirrer http://www.coleparmer.com/buy/produc...-04804-01.html http://www.itsibio.com/stirrer.html Would really appreciate some input here...I would like to get this feeder running asap. Looselyhuman
This one's kind of cool. Dual so you would only have to buy one. Can run on 12v DC which also probably means a remote AC power supply brick and a small diameter plug which would only need a small hole. It's 7.5" x 4.3"... http://www.eidusa.com/Magnetic_Stirrers_Dual.htm Are you using that insulating foam to fill holes you've drilled? If so, seems like you wouldn't have to worry about it. Yeah...but it's still $250. It does look cool, but not $250 cool. Part of the challenge with this build is to make it affordable to everyone. I know...kinda crazy, but some of the most ghetto feeders cost about $1,000 to build. Determined to do better with this. There has to be better options out there. I'm a little crazy and a lot determined...it will work...somehow. lol Link to comment

I think these can be had for <$100 but I can't find the DC model for sale online (all are "request a quote" situations) actually you can find the -0 version here: http://www.hannainst.com/usa/prods2.cfm?id...ode=HI%20190M-0 Link to comment

MeanGreenEyes
Adding this to the "to build list"...this thing is freakin' awesome...better/more functional than a lava lamp. I would totally mount this on the wall above my reef...green is beautiful...why not show it off? http://www.inventgeek.com/Projects/Photo-B...2/OverView.aspx It would actually make cute dosing containers for cal/alk/mg as well... Still looking into magnetic stirrers...so far...looks like these are my only option due to space constraints... http://www.sciencelab.com/page/S/PVAR/21761/95-3362001 Link to comment

MeanGreenEyes
Wow! That thing is a piece of art! Right above the tank????? Fo sho! A little neater with it and the right shade of paint it would look awesome!! Really make it a functional piece of art and you can't beat the color green. Any updates on your tank with the new Mitras? Everything is looking great. The coloration and growth on my coral is amazing, especially the ora pearlberry and purple tabling acro. I want to give everything a few more weeks to adjust before a get a real photographer over to take pics. Going to do a rescape again and a few other projects that I'm working on to try to clean up my system. (i.e. cord mess) There's new growth on everything...couldn't be happier. It appears that everyone is maxing out running these at 80%? What's your opinion on that? Link to comment
MeanGreenEyes
Alright...said I wasn't going to share but I was just looking through a few pics I tried to take last night right before lights out with my cell phone...so everything is really blue and pics are epically sh*tty as usual...but this is all II can share until I get this system where I want it and have a real photographer unt with the flu...so I don't feel like working on the system right now. W/ auto flash These do NOT show this pearlberry frag justice...I tried like hell to capture it and this is the best I could do. The little nub on the right branch is new growth since the swap... purple tabling acro...again...pay no attention to the color...lights wound down again at this point...had to use flash... and for laughs my WTF moment of the week: Link to comment
