-Total tank volume should be basically 10g. As in no sumps, but a HOB filter is allowed, also converting the tank into an all-in-one is allowed.

-Refugiums are allowed, but should be no bigger than an AquaClear 110.

-HOB filters are allowed but the largest size is an AquaClear 110.

-Budget of 350$

-The cost of the equipment is taken from the budget, so spend wisely.

-All live stock can come from anywhere, sponsors, LFS, whatever. If you use something from a current tank, you deduct 75% of its fair market value. If you purchase livestock online, you deduct the actual price paid for the livestock from the budget, but don't count shipping costs.

-You can mod all you want as long as you keep your total volume at 10 gallons.

-Not deducted from the budget: building supplies, eggcrate, stand/canopy materials, plumbing, sand testing supplies mag float, heater, thermometer, salt, water, supplements, food or CUC (only including snails and hermit crabs + certain other crabs PM me if you want to add something to the CUC that I did NOT mention)

-Budget is done on the honor system since we all know what its all worth.

In short, you've got 6 months to make a sweet tank on a limited budget.

-When something dies it does not count toward the budget.

-Begins November 15th

OK here is some info, I don't know what to classify it as until the competition itself starts.

-I am going to choose one object the day before the competition starts and pics must posted of that object in the tank by the end of the next day.

-The object could be anything, so don't try to start your tank now, I am pretty random so good luck guessing

-Each participant should have a tank thread that I can link to on the first post of the contest thread (not created yet).

-There will be monthly required photos of the tanks.

I think the mini nems to second prize for over all...and InTank to second place best aquascape

Prizes awarded for:

- Best 10g over all Prize

1st prize ($50 gift card to Reef Gardens)

2nd 3 mini nems from claygirl13

3rd prize mystery frag from Lawnman

-Best Aquascape

1st TBA (most likely from john at reef cleaners)

-Best DIY All donated by: scooternerd

1st mini AIO pico (2.7 gallons)+ return pump

2nd small HOB fuge

3rd 7x7x7 tank

Changed

reason: 2nd place prize for best aquascape would most likely be given out some time in november that i think that filter floss is a way better prize being that you could use it in your contest tank at the beginning of the contest insted of after it's over

so 2nd prize in best aquascape is now 2 chemi pure elite (6.5 oz) + 5 units of special INTANK floss

sorry if i miss the letter "a" in some words that key is being a little weird

I would assume best aquascape about halfway in (or a little earlier, depending on how everyone likes their scapes). I would say the beginning but I have completely changed th scape on my 24g 3 times. All new rock and everything lol.

Also, how is the judging going to go down? Do I judge lol? If so be creative haha

i have a 15g tank could i just fill it up with 10 gal if so i might be in

You have to actually use a ten gallon tank, unless you custom build a tank, then it should be within a half a gallon of 10g. The thing is 10g's are only 10$.

ohsnap1.gif So your sayin that there will be prizes at the beginning of the contest too?

yes this was decided a while back the aquascape would be judged at the beginning with no corals in the tank basicaly to make our cycle go by faster ;)

oh and since i dont have a R/O or test's and salt or any thing stuff like that wouldn't be taken off my buget would it

Link to comment

Wow! go to Petsmart, Petco or Wal mart they are cheaper there $10-12

Tell your parents you want an early BDay present since it starts on the 15th...maybe they will give you some $$ :)

Link to comment

i live in Austraila and cant get it for cheaper than that

my bday preasent is the parts for a DIY led lighting

and i could draw a line in perm texta on the out side of the tank to show ten gal

and i dont have much of a chanch of wining any thing any way cos it's my first SW

pplz guys i'm not the cheating type

i probaly coundnt afourd the salt to fill it to the top and then drain to take a photo

plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz!, plz! and plz!

oh and that was $45 USD

by the way

Link to comment

Just so you know, a saltwater aquarium really isn't something to get into if you can't afford it. Going cheap will only cause a lot of problems later and be a big waste of any money you do put in to it.
