It is about 5g give or take. That is really weird that nobody has a ten gallon for under 20$.

My Wal-Mart has 10g's for like 13 bucks.

FWIW, if I remember correctly, a 12 oz can of soda (pepsi, etc) is $3-$4 in Australia...If he buys a standard 10g tank, he deducts nothing from his budget, no matter the cost??? Correct?

Your lost nate lol.

Wow, thats weird. Anyway try to find a 10g it won't be deducted from your budget anyway. Read the rules, salt and test kits don't either.

-Total tank volume should be basically 10g. As in no sumps, but a HOB filter is allowed, also converting the tank into an all-in-one is allowed.

-Refugiums are allowed, but should be no bigger than an AquaClear 110.

-HOB filters are allowed but the largest size is an AquaClear 110.

-Budget of 350$

-The cost of the equipment is taken from the budget, so spend wisely.

-All live stock can come from anywhere, sponsors, LFS, whatever. If you use something from a current tank, you deduct 75% of its fair market value. If you purchase livestock online, you deduct the actual price paid for the livestock from the budget, but don't count shipping costs.

-You can mod all you want as long as you keep your total volume at 10 gallons.

-Not deducted from the budget: building supplies, eggcrate, stand/canopy materials, plumbing, sand testing supplies mag float, heater, thermometer, salt, water, supplements, food or CUC (only including snails and hermit crabs + certain other crabs PM me if you want to add something to the CUC that I did NOT mention)

-Budget is done on the honor system since we all know what its all worth.

In short, you've got 6 months to make a sweet tank on a limited budget.

-When something dies it does not count toward the budget.

OK here is some info, I don't know what to classify it as until the competition itself starts.

-I am going to choose one object the day before the competition starts and pics must posted of that object in the tank by the end of the next day.

-The object could be anything, so don't try to start your tank now, I am pretty random so good luck guessing

-Each participant should have a tank thread that I can link to on the first post of the contest thread (not created yet).

-There will be monthly required photos of the tanks.

Just so you know, a saltwater aquarium really isn't something to get into if you can't afford it. Going cheap will only cause a lot of problems later and be a big waste of any money you do put in to it.

have u not seen the world record holding elcheapo reefo pico? hahahahhahahaahhaaa

going cheap is ok as long as you know what ur doing ;) i would not and did not go cheap when i first started reefing though.

on a side note i think anyone out of the country that wind a prize should cover shipping. i havr no problem donating prizing and covering 10-12 bux. but it would cost an arm and a efen leg to ship to australia! sorry kid

didn't mean to point at u like that monkey from family guy. :P

Link to comment
thats true australia would cost alot to ship out there

i was just thinking, would acans be cheaper in australia?

off topic sorry:D

i would imagine that every barrier reef coral is pennies on the dollar. they probably charge outrageous price for

other corals though.

A bleeding heart scoly costs 225$ here, and 50$ or lower there. Buuut a cleaner shrimp costs 15$ here and 50$+ there.

Pretty crazy.

Another rule clarification please jacob: when are we allowed to put coral in the tank? I plan to start with rocks and water from an established tank, and therefore no cycle. But if people think it's unfair, we can set a date for first corals.

I would say you can. Buuut I wouldn't put it in right away because you still could have a mini cycle no matter what, and there is an aquascape contest that is going to be judged while everyones tanks are still empty.
