So here's a new FTS and you can see some minor scape changes. Filled in the cave on the left since no one was living in it and this gave me some more spots for placing corals. Moved the large worm down into that area and set the frogspawn above the shroom rock.

Closer view of the left. Little worm retracted back into its tube. Moved the favia over to this side as well and stuck the xenia way off to the side.

Check out the crazy growth on the mermaid algae in just the couple weeks its been in the tank. Both pieces growing like mad. This is the same piece, today on the left and when I bought it on the right:

And the new rics! This is just the front, there are as many of them on the back of the rock. This was sitting in midwest coral's SPS tank and I asked if it was for sale. Sissy said no at first because it was out of her home tank which is in limbo (the rest of her corals are in the 2500 gallon basin back there), but then her husband showed up and he said sure why not how's 45 bucks sound. Sounded damn good.

The right island now. Looks more or less the same, I just robbed some smaller pieces of rock to build up the left island. Can see some more growth on the other algae at the bottom right:

The shrimp pulled that starfish around the back of the right island so can't get a pic. Did shoot some video of the shrimp attacking it and I'll link that in a bit. My battery died before he actually flipped the starfish over and started munching, but I'll post a short clip anyway.

Thanks for looking!

He doesn't mind eating frozen star?

I love those rics btw. BTW, what is that large creamy colored coral to the left of those red and green blastos in the first picture?

I am going to a large fish store in LA tomorrow and hope to find something cool!

That's a live star, I picked it up today. I don't think he cared for the frozen I tried giving him the other night. He nibbled a bit but then it just laid there rotting...

The creamy thing is the frogspawn. Too lazy to color correct these shots, just snapping quick jpegs. But it's cream with green dots on it.

That was a nice ric rock find!

Yeah!

Bought a purple pseudochromis (purple dottyback). He's hiding out in new-guy cave right now, so only pic is when he was in the bag acclimating.

For three frigging hours...

I know salt costs can add up for a LFS, but 1.009sg - come on!!

Yeah they are spread out now man, I didn't want to post another pic just to tease you lol. So maybe I can frag these and not destroy them like the other one.

The dottyback is beautiful. I'll probably be adding an indigo dottyback if I can get ahold of one. Like everyone else has said, THOSE ARE SOME KILLER RICS!

Dottyback is the new tank boss. Dottyback > damsels > clowns. Good for him!

So I have this hex tank running freshwater for a long time. Thinking of converting it...

Pretty funny wathcing the harlequin go at the starfish. so does he just keep the thing alive in the back of the tank and eat it when he wants? Tank looks great!

Yeah once in a while the starfish crawls a little bit to try and get away but the shrimp just keeps it pinned. He hasn't gotten off the starfish since he managed to flip it on his back. Just been munching on it non-stop!

really an awesome tank man, really like the harlequin, I want to a pair, but their diet is a problem. I was thinking of setting up a starfish holding tank and just cutting legs off every so often.

Go for the hex, they are pretty nice tanks. you could probably make a very nice scape for it.

I'm going to convert it, but probably fowlr no corals. Need to find someone local to take the freshwater fish off my hands though. Some of these fish are pushing 5 years in this tank.

Here are some pics of it. Hard to capture the color correctly, it's not quite as pink as these are showing. More of purple.

Picked up three pieces of tonga rock from Midwest Coral on the way home this evening. Dry rock, total it weighs in at 20 pounds. I've got a chunk of live rock tucked behind one of the islands in my reef I'm going to use to seed this rock. This is all for my hex tank I'm going to turn into fowlr, hopefully over the weekend. Bought a bag of sand as well.

The rock looks great, super porous. Stacks well into a nice column which I think is going to be perfect in this tall hex. I'll add a couple of zip ties for insurance, but it's a stable build.

Other plan is to paint the back 3 panes of the hex black. So depending on paint dry time, maybe I'll have some pics of the built tank up by Sunday night. My freshwater fish are going to my dad's tank tomorrow.
