ZephNYC
Chello reefing nerds!!! Off to a bad start ey ??? So what else is new.... So I felt like creating a thread where I can keep a public record of the growth in my corals. Let me put it this way - Nothing impresses me more then proof of progress. Anyone can buy a coral and show it off till it dies....and filter systems??... algea tumblers, fuges, reactors, ozone, hydroxywhatevers...led evil clusters....I really could not care less. Im old school, and I just want to know one thing. Are your corals growing ? Prove it ? Ive never really bothered to keep records, but I wish I did as I do still have a few items I have kept for nearly 8 years, Including a Pocillopora colony that has grown from 1" frags to a TWO FOOT colony. So I figured this would be a place to start, and to invite other to show off their progress as well. This could be a very good example of how well many species do in captivity, for perspective buyers or beginners. Or if people have had problems with species others have done well with, that can help. So feel free to join in with your own progression shots. Here are a couple of my favorites for starters..... Gonioporas have had a reallllly poor reputation for survival. All my life I have always been weary of Goniopora frags because I KNOW they only fragged them to sell off the remains of a declining colony. However, year after year I have always seen these "hardy goniopora frags" advertised by Dr. Mac. I got to thinking that perhaps these are truly hardy, in comparison to other goni's, as I doubt the Doc would continue to carry them if they did not do well, so I figured what the hey and picked up these 2 frags in June on 2012. Here they are in quarantine the a couple days after arrival. And this pic was taken today, April 5, 2013 SPS anyone ? One of ORA's newer items is their Pink matrix Acro. Here is a pic of a ### purchased in July of 2012: And here she is today. Notice the purple hues and tips coming in. Here we have some Scleronepthea soft coral or Lemon Tree coral. This frag was even smaller than this when I first got it from DD. In fact it was so small I wasn't even sure there was anything on it!! This pic was taken in Feb, 2012. And here she is today! Bamm Bamm Palyssssss...before And only FOUR months later... And here are some more gonioporas for your viewing pleasure. ...and some awesome NPS gorgonians.... Why not a couple of FTS progression shots ? THis was my tank when I was about to retire from the hobby in 2010. I had sold off most all my corals and most all my clams had died from a PM plague. Then I met a little woman named Metrokat and all hell broke loose. Link to comment

Spirofucci
Great idea for a thread! We all should post more growth pics more often. You are right, good color and growth are always a sign of success, no matter how you get there. Top down about 10 months ago: Recent side shots: Link to comment

Spirofucci
I have three frags that are about a month old that are just starting to color up. You can have them, I can't even give them away down here. I'd be happy to ship them to ya but it's so friggn expensive to ship from here. A small box of corals cost me over $120 for overnight. Link to comment

ZephNYC
WoW you're tank is awesome. Love seeing the progression shots. What kind of flow are your Goni's in? They're awesome !!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!! Inquiring minds care to know!!!!! My goni's are under strong water flow that alternates directions every 30 minutes. I have 8 of them in that tank and I do not target feed them. However, I believe they are benefiting from the heavy NPS softies and gorgonian feedings that I do nearly 20 times daily of the following. 4 different species of phyto freeze dried arctic pods frozen daphnia frozen rotifers kent liquid microvert. Take a look through my thread and let me know what you want. sure thing. I will get back to you. Hey are you the guy that asked for pictures of my artwork ?? Sorry I have very short term memory Link to comment
ZephNYC
Ponape Birdsnest are, in most opinions, the most difficult of Seriotopora's. I agree for the most part, and have lost a couple in my days. All I can tell you is that if you want unstoppable SPS you need to be obsessive about strontium. Im happy I was able to dig this up!!! This Ponape birdsnest fragis from Manhattan Aquariums, Purchased on 5/17/2012. . And here is the same frag on 11/10/2012 And this shot was taken today, 4/7/2013 It looks a little more yellow today, but only because one of my 14K halides is out and the tank is dominated by 10K bulbs at the moment.
