seabass
Besides air fresheners, Alcaligenes faecalis is also sometimes caused by carbon dosing. Obviously, stopping use of what's causing the problem, is a first step. Organic wastes are another issue, but might be addressed with maintenance (like blowing detritus off of rocks with a turkey baster and/or cleaning the sand bed), and dissolved organics can be removed by protein skimming or activated carbon media. After the source is gone, continued manual removal often works. But being bacterial, some people have had success with ChemiClean treatments. However, I still think it's likely Chrysophytes. Manual removal is a first step. Also, KNO3 (potassium nitrate) treatments have seemed to help people. I've also seen where Vibrant has worked; read my Vibrant review to see my issues with Vibrant (I'm currently fighting dinos in one of my tanks after extended use of Vibrant). 2 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Going to try a bottle of Vibrant and order some tomorrow. Otherwise some have had this Chrysophytes going on for months. Quote Link to comment
waldoz
So tomorrow scrubbing the rock and water change. Then hit it with the silver bullet. Not going to hold my breath. Going to take weekly picks of the same spot to show how well it works if it does. Going to dose 1.5 ml per week. The recommendation is 1ml for 10 gl. I consider this tank bad so we will see how it goes. Might taper off in a month but might just keep it up for 9 weeks. Fingers crossed 🤞. 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
Just be prepared for other losses (like mini brittle stars, and pods) and the likely emergence of a substantial cyano bloom. So thoroughly clean out your tank before starting to dose. While Vibrant was eventually able to get rid of my tanks' turf algae problems, it did not work the way I anticipated. As I stated in my Vibrant review, I suspect that Vibrant might contain dimethyliminoethylene dichloride, ethoxylate (which is the algaecide/biocide used in products like API AlgaeFix); and that ingredient might be what makes Vibrant effective, not bacteria. So go into this with your eyes wide open. Hopefully you will be able to beat this without a major disruption to your tank. Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Yes will do. I'm sure it will be a rollercoaster ride. I'm glad we had this in such a small tank and not the 60 we are building. 🙄 Still lots to learn. Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Must be doing something right 😃 except for the crappy pics. As far Vibrant goes it seems to be slowly working. The coral seem to like it as far as how much we are adding weekly. 2 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
More crappy pics upload and still chugging along. Need to get some more CUC. 3 Quote Link to comment

waldoz
This guy has been growing on on his back. Another snail died and we have two left in the tank, need to get to the shop and buy a few more. Not much else going on, still chugging along. 2 Quote Link to comment
seabass
Chugging along is good. 👍 1 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
RBTA split now we have 3. The main one is doing good still. Power head took a dump but there must be enough flow in the tank. Trying to find a tub and start curing the rock for the 60. 2 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Got this Creamsicle chalice will have to see how it does. Seems we lost our crab and the spider flakes zoa's disappeared.😬 Wondering if some critter is wandering around at night 🤔 1 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
That looks like a nice piece. Seems like forever since a FTS has been posted. Quote Link to comment
waldoz
LoL 😆 see what I can do. 1 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Has not changed too much. Trying to hunt down toad stool frag. So can start getting it going for the next tank. There really is not much room in this one. I think also I have it up too much light wise, so turned it down about 10%. See how that goes for two weeks or so. 2 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Son wanted to go down to CFAC shop. They were having a BOGO sale and got some pretty good stuff. Toad stool. Catspaw, we lost the last one but wanted to try again. This looks like a torch but it's a hammer, so unless they made a mistake. And this cluster of Rasta. Got 4 more snails hopefully clean up the tank more. Got out the door for $49 pretty great deals and easy on the pocket. 4 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
We are trying to get more motion into the tank. So that's why we got the hammer. Any other suggestions? We are trying to prep for the 60. Torches out of our range for now. Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
All of my flowing corals are softies, Except for one hammer. I like the new coral. Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Well the toad stool is doing ok. Also got some hand me downs and was not expecting all this. I hope to do the same down the road. Blue German polyp Digita. Got a pile of these and the guy said to try them out all over the tank and see how they do. Montipora (again as we lost our last one) The cat's paw my son dropped it like 3 times 😂 it's still hanging on. We got that one at the BOGO sale. Don't remember the name of these plates anyone? And not sure about this one either, anyone? Hammer is doing fine it looks like. Tank is getting full running out of room. Love this hobby and hope to be in this for a long time. Need to start figuring out how to dose the tank. 😬 4 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Yeah hammer melted. 😬. We thought it had enough shade. I think by the time we realized what was happening probably too late. Don't think he is coming back. We were bummed. Trying to focus on getting the 60 done. It getting very difficult having big range of coral. 2 Quote Link to comment
waldoz
Tank temp is at 81.3. 🤬 Trying to turn it down slowly. Everything seems pissed off. Running a Jager but lights been turned up a little two weeks ago. Might need to get an inkbird sooner. Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
Good thing you caught it before it got any warmer. Hope things come back once cooled off. 1 Quote Link to comment

waldoz
Moved the toad stool. I don't think it was getting enough light. It's doing a lot better. 3 Quote Link to comment
