look up the anemone cannon, it's a super clever way to get the nems of the rock, and it works!

tank looks so good!

I just ordered 120lb dry rock. The plan is to get rid of all but one anemone (by removing the rocks they are attached to) and rebuild a slightly less bulky aquascape.

Last weekend I started a coral-cleanup, taking out a 5g bucket worth of montipora and cleaning up the LPS colonies. Also removed rock from the left side to get the “less bulky” scape- results below. It’s hard to convey the size and colors of the colonies!

New phone (15 pro) takes pretty good photos- unedited off the camera:

glad to see this behemoth just chugging along....the new scape piece is def less bulky looking 😁

Thanks! Yeah, it’s been running for 5+ years now. Many lessons learnt including equipment failures, fighting old-tank-syndrome, getting lazy, etc! 😆

Operation begins. Hopefully replacing ~40% of the rock doesn’t crash the system. I expect a bit of an algae bloom.

Update: 5 year old undisturbed sand is really nasty stuff. Blown through 150 gallons of water just siphoning out dark brown gunk….

Good news is all-but-two anemones are removed, as well as any dead or undesired corals. Looks a lot cleaner!

Did you keep the sand?

Yes- I use a 24” gravel vac to suck up the sand/detritus and repeatedly pause the suction to drop the cleaned sand back into the tank. It just removes the fine particles and muck while leaving the course sand.

Took a dozen frags off the grafted cap, but I can’t keep it out of the Anacapora!

No idea where that goniopora on the frag rack came from. Must have encrusted the rack when I put a colony there for a few weeks.

I have a bunch of assorted LPS in my two other tanks (Reefer 350, Frag Tank), but have limited space to add them to the 300g. It's a struggle!
