heifinator
Heifinator's 93 Gallon Cube 30in x 30in x 23in I've been looking to upgrade for quite some time now and finally pulled the trigger! I have always had a thing for cubes, I love the idea of having 3 distinctive viewing angles instead of 1 primary way to look at the tank. The main priorities when designing this system are: Have the entire system on day 1, this should help keep the hardware installs clean and the system stable over the next couple years. (No constant equipment changes). Produce a very 3 dimensional aquascape that provides 3 distinctive views into the aquarium. Create a very stable system that requires very little intervention and maintenance while still providing a very clean environment for the inhabitants. I expect this build to be wet by January and am using black friday to get my hands on all the equipment I have decided to use. I will be documenting every step of this build over the next 60 days! A listing of equipment and stocking plans are all I have for now! Hardware Plans Tank: Miracles In Glass 30 x 30 x 23 Rimless Aquarium Sump: Custom PVC Sump from Advanced Acrylics Lighting: NanoBox ATI Hybrid LED+T5 Lighting (6x24w + 4 Nano Arrays) Skimmer: Vertex Omega 180i Return Pump: Ecotech Vectra M1 Flow: MP40WQD x2 Top Off: Tunze Osmolator 3155 Filtration: Full Zeovit System Dosing: Bubble Magus Dosing Pump (Triton elementz) Control: Apex Controller (Salinity + ORP + pH + Temp + Leak Detection) Rock: BRS Reef Saver (Minimalist) Substrate: Barebottom Stocking Plans Coral and inverts will include a bottom third filled with acans, zoas, clams, and signature LPS such as a gold torch and multiple hammer colors. The top two thirds will be almost completely SPS dominated. Fish Selection may change but the initial plan is as follows 2x Black Onyx Clowns Lyretail or Dispar Anthias Trio Multiple Fairy / Flasher Wrasse Flame Hawk Cherub Angel Midas Blenny Many Reef Chromis I will be posting my detailed sump / stand designs in the next few days, the first hardware will begin arriving next week! 3 Quote Link to comment
heifinator
Here is a mockup of the overall look / size of everything. Going with an oversized stand so I have space to keep everything organized, will post a mock up of the sump area later. I prefer the look of a tighter stand but with a cube like this I feel it is better to go bigger so that I can accommodate a reasonable sump and equipment. 1 Quote Link to comment
heifinator
Vertex 180i and my tunze osmolator will be here today thanks to BRS black friday! Good time to be purchasing hardware! Quote Link to comment
heifinator
The first goodies have arrived! The skimmer is surely overkill but with the BRS doorbuster the 180i was the same as the 150... 1 Quote Link to comment

heifinator
Holy cow nice goodies! Hah, I was going to spread it out a little more but with the black friday deals it would have been stupid to wait another couple weeks just to make my pocket feel better. Quote Link to comment

heifinator
No project is complete without some weird issue! Got a zero edge series 7 26" sump which advertises as 11x13.5 skimmer section. Sadly when I recieved it I realized that 11 inch "SKIMMER SECTION" includes the 3 inch baffle... Usable skimmer section 8 inches. Cute. Needless to say when I told premium aquatics about this they thought that was ridiculous and are taking care of it & informing zeroedge of their awful advertising... The sump is off as soon as it arrived! Moving to something else. Quote Link to comment
heifinator
Some updates Nano Box ATI Hybrid came in. All looks great, a little scratched from shipping but a little paint will fix that! Otherwise quality is stellar. I also gave up on standard sumps. I am having a custom sump made, here are the drawings. Should have the tank & sump in the next couple weeks! 2 Quote Link to comment

heifinator
Went to pickup the tank from the freight company, saved over $300 by just being able to drive 5 miles to the depot to pick it up... Let the stand build begin! 3 Quote Link to comment
smiz
Looking good! Whats the plan for the stand? Few things in my stand design I am loving is the electronics box and my slid able drawer. Unfortunately with the wait of the tank on it it no longer opens but it would have been super useful! Quote Link to comment

Few things in my stand design I am loving is the electronics box and my slid able drawer. Unfortunately with the wait of the tank on it it no longer opens but it would have been super useful! The stand is 3/4" plywood and 1 by material. The stand is oversized by 3 inches on the sides and front. The stand has cross members that sit on the front and back of the tank to help distribute the load. I went with 1 by because I was so tight on space on the inside. I also am going to have an electronics box! Quote Link to comment

heifinator
Updated design. I put a outline of the tank on top of it. Built with 3/4" oak ply and 1x4-6 dimensional lumber. The reason I am going oversized is to fit everything as pictured. The stand would have a 3/4" oak ply covering it as well that is not pictured. Any advice appreciated. I am concerned about distributing the ~800lb load to the vertical supports. I want to stay with 1 by material to save space as every inch counts! Quote Link to comment
heifinator
I got pictures of the sump today! Quote Link to comment

heifinator
That is one sexy sump. Thanks! It is really cool to see something you designed be brought into reality. Starting the stand build tomorrow. Had to clean the garage and organize all the tools first! 1 Quote Link to comment
