vlangel
I waged war once again on the opportunistic bubble algae that I can never seem to eradicate no matter how aggressive I attack it. I am noticing a trend that it appears manageable for about 2 months but then bursts into a population explosion that must be dealt with after that time period. I am glad that some of my rock work is removable since I can take a toothbrush to the offending macro without fear of spreading it all over the tank. I am also grateful that it is harmless and perhaps I should be viewing these purging sessions as nutrient export? LOL. Link to comment

I have purged Bubble Algae three times from various systems. My 55g was a tough one due to size and big LR pieces. Once all visible bubbles had been removed (didn't worry too much about popping them, just got them out), then I used a weekly detaiiled inspection/removal for a few weeks/months until they were all eradicated. Good news is that It can be done Nice video, too. Space in the back will help keep the flow circulating which keeps the tank cleaner and more healthy over the long run. Link to comment

Thanks for the encouragement Nano sapiens! Maybe I am not aiming high enough with only wanting to keep them under control. I do enough water changes that a weekly inspection/removal is doable. Its nice to know that it can be done should I get the necessary motivation. LOLThe scape being pulled away from the back wall has worked great. The tank definitely has better flow and the rios are able to keep most particles in suspension now which helps a lot. Link to comment

gena
I always say...we are the best algae remover. Just have to be diligent. It is a PITA to have to do but I work much harder and am more vigilant than any CUC I've ever added to my tank LOL. Link to comment
vlangel
I like your attitude - periodic bubble algae removal = algae scrubber There is a silver lining to everything, right? I always say...we are the best algae remover. Just have to be diligent. It is a PITA to have to do but I work much harder and am more vigilant than any CUC I've ever added to my tank LOL. Hey, if you want the job done right, ya got to do it yourself, LOL! Since my tank lights are still ofd and there is nothing new with it anyway, I have been bird watching out my windows. In the bluebird box, mama bluebird is setting up house. O yeah, see the 2 chairs side by side in the foreground...those are Dave and I's cialis chairs. I tried to get a pic of the Baltimore oreole that is in our blueberry bush but he didn't show up. I guess he was getting nectar from the blueberry blossoms. And the best bird shot of them all. vlangel
You will need your magnifying glass but I just got a pic of papa bluebird sitting on top of his house! I get so excited about the bluebirds because they didn't build here for 25 years but the last 4 years they have started to make this their home. Link to comment

vlangel
Awesome! I have yet to see a Bluebird! They seem rare. I thought the same thing about them being rare. We moved to this house in 1986 and that year we had bluebirds in the bluebird box. Then we did not have bluebirds again until 3 years ago and we had them 2 of the 3 years. Then this winter (and I assumed they fly south) I saw a whole flock in our holly tree/bush lots of times. So I had high hopes this year but to increase our chances I put up another box for a total of 3. They are only in 1 of the boxes but its the one closest to the house, yah! The wrens claimed one of the other boxes and we will see who gets the last box. Link to comment
Elizabeth94
SO, I thought of you when I opened up my "adult" coloring book on marine life.. The first outline to color was a pair of horsies. The book also has lions fish, parrot fish, clowns, triggerfish, and so much more. Link to comment

I almost bought my older teenage foster/grandsons those coloring books. I hear they are good stress relief. Link to comment
Elizabeth94
Thank you! It was a good stress reliever. I really enjoyed seeing it come together. I think I am going to do the lion fish next I already have a color scheme in my mind. Link to comment

Nothing really new in the tank but its fairly clean so I decided to take some pics. I liked this shot because of all the different textures. And the seahorses just blend in perfectly. That is so cool. Link to comment
vlangel
Dave took a pic of my Baltimore Oreole with our camera and so I am doing this on the MAC. Hopefully this is a bird pic? Link to comment

vlangel
Beautiful tank pics, beautiful bird pics I want your back yard Thanks teeny! That is why we bought this house, we loved the back yard too. There were some orchard trees on the property before we came so that is one reason we have wildlife. That blueberry bush was here and every year it produces a bumper crop and we eat loads of blueberries....for about 1 week until the birds find they are ripe! Ha ha! Link to comment
