Thanks- yes the doser is awesome- nice to feel a little more in control. Ya the teal bird is a growing machine- starting to send off shoots in all directions . That's a tough call selling your piece but at least keeping part makes it all better- I thought about doing that - Its about the size of a softball now- I have a few frags of it that are taking off too on the other side so losing the mother colony might not be so bad. I want to fill this tank up a little more though- keep things growing. I did purchase some iodine supplement put haven't found a test kit so I haven't added any yet. Should be able to go to some different lfs and find a decent test kit- which brand do you use for iodine?

I envisioned more of a bonsai look to the scape so now there are 4 frags spread out across the back of the rockwork where they can fill in with better lines. Can't completely give up on my favorite SPS. :-)

I'm using RedSea iodine test kit right now, but am considering Salifert's Iodine kit. RedSea, you float a control vial for 10 minutes then add chemicals to that and a sample vial. Next, wait up to 10 more minutes for the color of the standard to match the color on a card, which is the signal to try to match the color of the sample vial to one of the other shades. If you space out from boredom or multitasking the color might develop too long and no longer be viable. Not only that, but the shade of the color appears different under different light sources. Sketchy results, especially for the time involved to complete the test.

Salifert appears to be a titration test. Crossing fingers I can find a video out there somewhere to confirm. Anyways, definitely open to suggestions for iodine and potassium kits.

Yeah, your tank is filling in really nicely. I would hesitate to take anything out also. :-) Oh, good news on that orange digi I'd like to trade for your blue one. It appears to be a forest fire since it's developing a slightly green base. Sweet!

Thanks for the info- I am gonna shop around for a good iodine test kit! Ya when it warms up we should make trade! In Cali all week having tank withdraws for sure- my large hermit disrupted some pieces last night and my wife went in like a trooper and separated everyone! Flying out tomorrow if all goes well with all the rain they are getting here

Nice palys and shrooms!

I have the Redsea Iodine test kit and could never get consistent results either. Then I did some research online and couldn't find any test kits for Iodine made by any manufacturer that got good reviews. Let me know if you find a decent one.

Thanks! Iodine test kits- really - well that stinks! I'll see what I can find and let ya know- I think I'll look for the Saliferts - as polarcollision suggested? BRS reviews were "ok" which is the best I could find

No kidding! What's up with that? Turns out that Salifert looks like it's a 'match the shade' kit also. Still looking...

Thanks Mark- ya now that I got the doser its been solid at 7.5-8 with minimal swings. Only dosing 6 times a day now- gonna move that to 12 - maybe 24 now that I've got the volume down. Snowing here today so I got a water change and some testing on the schedule?

I think the low Alk is the secret to success. I keep reading over my thread where I casually let Alk rise form 8.5 to 10.5 over a week and a half. What was I thinking? I will never simply adjust a dose again when things start to get out of balance. Turn it off, re-test, reset, then go.

Agreed, when I was manually dosing I would add 20-25ml of Alk. In the morning and it would get up to 9 then drop to 7- sometimes 6 during the day and then another 20-25 in the evening- things were lookin good but not great. Now some of my newer frags are really starting to take off too. The Monti, stylo and Poci handle the swing better than the Mille's for sure

Well the wife threw me a curve ball today - I was talking about the upgrade and showed her the 90 cubes and she said - that's its ? Won't you run out of room again to quick..............hmmmmm- maybe she's right .?

Wow amazing growth, I'm hoping I dont have to start dosing my pico when the sps grows out

Thanks! Depending on how many you get and how big they grow you should be fine with keeping things up with water changes- that worked for me for about 6 months and I was pretty much all sps. You'll just want to ck Alk. and Ca. And Mg. And see how they change inbetween a waterchange. ?
