cindyp
my blasto died. out of nowhere! this is what i get going around the forum saying how well and easy my blasto is. within 2 days, its skirt shrunk, its mouth gaped open. it wouldn't eat, and then it's entire face fell off last night, revealing its skeleton. i don't know what happened. i picked up a gorgeous purple yuma ric from ASD sale ($15 folks!) yesterday to replace the blasto. funny story and why i need you all at the forum. showing off new yuma to hub... me: isn't it so pretty? hub: it looks like that one (points at frogspawn) except lumpier. me: *facepalm* yellow clown goby PHOTOBOMBS ALL! ha! Looking good Cindy. any updates, drexel?? Link to comment

That yuma is very pretty! i know. there was no receding as far as i can tell, except when it shriveled at the end. bummer. it was never fluffy though, so i don't know if it was ever happy? i also bought a new fishie!! i picked out a tailspot blenny i fell in love with. i like to impulse buy fish, but now making sure they actuallye at and aren't half starved. you learn, i guess. will share those fotos soon! I love my tailspot! He's getting bolder and showing more personality lately. His new favorite spot, when not hanging out with the clowns, is sitting in the middle of my blue mushrooms. It's so cute! cindyp
so cute! mine likes to perch on or among my mushrooms too! and hijack all you want in this thread! haa! it's been hard getting a good foto of blenny, as he's still a bit shy. but not bad for just 24 hours in the tank. FlowerMama
Tailspots are great. They'll pick food stuffs off the walls, rock, etc, they don't need much. I miss mine, he was fine until the black clowns went into the tank, then he slowly withered away, he was afraid of the clowns and ate less & less. Next one I get I'm putting back in my Evolve8 little tank. I never had luck w/ blasto. Sorry to hear about yours. Link to comment
cindyp
so i love my little tail spotted blenny already. he was really nervous with stress markings and heavy breathing when i first put him in the tank. (i learned about the stress markings, which look like cool stripes, from LCS guy). then he saw the ycg and they paused and stared at each other. blenny curled up in one of my big mushrooms until it tried to close and eat him. then he perched basically ON TOP of my ycg on the florida ric, and the ycg tolerated it. it was super cute. i think he took comfort form the ycg! they both like my neon orange mushroom a lot. here they are chillaxin' yesterday... (this mushroom has sprouted two babies already!) Link to comment
MrNanoReef
Love the new Yuma, they have amazing color compare to Rics, I have a few in my tank and one of them don't do well and started shrinking up, not sure why? everything else looks fine including some SPS. Going to try dipping in iodine today. Link to comment

Going to try dipping in iodine today. i have to admit that i'm a little bummed about my tank today. my favia and coral plate are receding. my blasto just died out of nowhere. and my dendro for the first time hasn't had tentacles out for like 24 hours. can't be good. i did a water change and will do another and test params. the flower nems, frog and hammer and all shrooms doing great. but... maybe i'll just stick with those easier corals. oh yeah. i also have some sort of white tube sponge infestation on my gsp frag. not sure what to do? leave be or try and kill? ninjamyst
white tub sponge you can usually just peel off. it will smother the frag if you let it run wild. hope the water change fixes the issues with the favia and plate. Link to comment

Well good luck getting everything back together. I'd check salinity if everything else is good, because I think a swing in error reading can cause problem over anything else, too high or too low. White tube sponge thingy is probably pineapple sponge, they infested when tank has excess nutrient, I got them at first but now they are almost completely gone, I'd just take the frag out of the water and remove them. teenyreef
Oh no! I hate these unexplained problems where all of a sudden everybody is unhappy for no apparent reason. Maybe some chemical warfare or some other factor due to the recent additions you've made? Are you running carbon or Chemipure? That can really help if that's what's going on, along with water changes. I have to admit I've had two times with my 4g where I just ended up pulling everything out, drained the tank, rinsed the sand in old tank water, and put it all back again with 100% new water. It was a huge improvement both times but it's a lot to go through if you don't have to, and it does stress the occupants (and the reefkeeper!). Link to comment
cindyp
a better foto of my blenny today. he swims around a lot. no more stress marks on body or heavy breathing. he is a curious blenny! also seems to like ycg a lot too. Love the new Yuma, they have amazing color compare to Rics, I have a few in my tank and one of them don't do well and started shrinking up, not sure why? everything else looks fine including some SPS. Going to try dipping in iodine today. i do love the color. can i ask how you dip? what do you use? is it diluted iodine? will try to pick up some at LCS next i visit. white tub sponge you can usually just peel off. it will smother the frag if you let it run wild. hope the water change fixes the issues with the favia and plate. thanks! and thanks for the sympathies. i have to wonder if it's due to my rainfordi dying? i'm not sure. might be salinity too. i've been changing water frequently but maybe not topping off enough? and yes, not enough time to do massive care due to busy month and also on novel deadline! owenj
Love the new TSB! I got a two spot bimaculatus for my cube...so adorable. I've never had a blenny before but they are characters. Sucks to hear about the tank woes; going through those myself. Definitely check salinity if your params are reading fine. I'm not used to the huge evap in my Fusion 20 & lost a scoly and some acans, had no clue why because the water params were fine. Tested salinity, it was 1.029! Ugh. Slowly trying to remedy it without shocking the inhabitants. Link to comment

cindyp
now i'm worried by that my beloved dendro is dead. i thought it was just retracted, but i tried to put a pellet to feed it anyway, hoping to coax it out, but i think it's just got a gaping mouth and the pellet is sitting on top of it. wah! FlowerMama
What are your parameters? I'd get some water ready for a water change, even if parameters turn out alright maybe there's something bad in the water. You may not have lost the dendro, when mine wasn't happy it closed up for a good month. Link to comment

They have deceptively small mouths. My citron clown goby can eat bigger pieces than the two spot. Writing is going alright. I think I'm at the point where I need to just submit it & start the rejection march or else I'll never leave revision land. Don't lost hope on the dendro yet--gaping mouths can close. Unless it starts receding really badly I think you still have a shot at saving it. Link to comment
