Sorry to hear about the heater issue and the loss. Controllers are a good way to prevent these issues in the future. Looks like you are investing a good amount of money in corals, will save u money in the end if your tank was to crash from equipment failure. Not to mention, they are fun to play with.

Yeah I know. I will eventually invest in one.

Fishdood, I was left a biocube from my brother who was deployed very without much notice, I've never had a saltwater before, what kind of lighting so you have to promote all of your coral growth?

I use the factory lighting that comes built in on the biocube hood. Mine is the 29 gallon biocube, its perfect for soft corals and LPS. if you have any concerns or questions don't hesitate to PM me.

So here's another progress update of the 55 reef tank build. Got some progress made the last couple of weeks.

Ordered and received my glassholes.com 700gph overflow kit.

Got my rocks from my buddies tank he tore down and i gave them a nice peroxide bath to kill algae and anything in them,

Then I put them out in the sun to dry and bake

But the biggest progress of all, I got to sand and painting my stand and canopy. My wife and brother helped me out to get it done. My wife chose the color so she gets the credit for the beautiful blue.

That's it for now, I am going to drill the tank this week to finally get it running and start to cycle the tank and dry rock... Enjoy and hopefully i will adding more progress shots soon. Thanks for looking!

you drill?
yeah I drilled. I didn't want to use one of those siphon overflows. Tank has been running for over a month and its doing well. I want to add another 10 gallon fuge next to the sump to gravity drain into my skimmer sump. I think a fuge will help keep future nitrates and phosphates down. I would have put a 20 long sump in my stand but it didn't fit.

Any chance we could see this thing in action?
Sure, I will post the YouTube link. But I actually modded the sump again.given that the skimmer I got was bigger than expected, I tore down the first baffle of the sump and the sump only contains my filter sock, skimmer, heater, and return pump. I did not have enough space to incorporate a refugium. I wanted to add a 10 gallon tank next to the sump to gravity feed into it but then I didn't have room for my top off reservoir and storage for miscellaneous items. So I will run the system how it is and go from there. Anyways here's the link.

Dang, that is nice growth! Looks great.
thanks sunar!

I recently went to an awesome wholesaler/retailer up north of me this past weekend (about 30 minutes away) and i bought the next couple of fish i wanted. I was so impressed on their quality of livestock and how healthy everything was, I had to buy my fish there. You don't see that in most local fish stores in my area. I bought a Naso Tang and a small Blue Tang. The blue tang is supposedly the African Yellow Belly variety which will get the yellow belly coloration as he gets older. The fish have been doing really well, no signs of stress and have been eating and grazing. Surprisingly they had such a great response once introduced after drip acclimating them for about an hour and a half. They never went to hide and were swimming all around the tank once in it. The blue tang goes and hides in his sleeping spots in the rocks once the lights go out, which i know they do. My previous one would do the same thing lol.

Here they are

Yes Sir! I already got the ok from my wife, but we have to move into a house which is probably in a couple of years. If not i can rehome the fish in my good friends 260 or anothers 180.

I love Nasos... My top fish are Naso, Poweder Blue, and Conspicuous Angelfish! I really want a big tank... just no cash! :(

And I am only 15 haha!

all in time buddy. I was fifteen once lol. about 14 years ago, enjoy it. time flies, so take advantage of it. My favorite fish are blue tangs, i love them. Nasos are awesome, powder blues are great but ich/disease magnets, and conspicuous angels are $$$ lol. I would love at add an angelfish to my tank but i didn't have a good experience with the one i previously had. it was a carribean pygmy angel that was the only angel i have ever owned that picked on my clam and zoas. i had a good experience with a flame angel and coral beauties. im just going to ride it out and let the tank be, no more fish for now.
