peewee1467
nice set up. im a college kid too that spends all his money on the fish tank loli noticed my pokerstar monti pops out orange polyps, esp when its along the growth edges but they end up turning green. pretty neat. Thanks, Hopefully I'll get this seasonal job this summer and when the next school year starts, I'll get unemployment and get paid to basically reeeeeeeeeef. hahahah It's hard to tell what the montipora actually is. Either way, It'll be sick once it colors back up and starts to encrust. I also got an anemone today for my future pair of Picasso clowns. It's a pink/purple Sebae. Here's a quick cell phone shot: It's way more pink in person. I've never seen one with this coloration before so of course, I took it home. and FINALLY , as you can see in the picture, I'm starting to get some nice coralline growth. My refugium also went downhill last week. The acrylic panels couldnt handle the pressure. I designed the refugium to have maximum water capacity and all the water caused the acrylic panels to bow and eventually they started coming off. So I'm just going to throw on a canister filter with some floss and Chemipure Elite. Eventually there will be lily pipes. The tank looks so much cleaner without the overflow and my room is......silent Link to comment
peewee1467
Cleaned the tank up a bit today. The anemone decided to float over to the heater and I guess the heater burned the flesh and it eventually died. Fogged up the water in my tank for a two days. Everything is looking better after a little water change though. I picked up a frag of Pulsing Xenia today. There's too much flow to actually see it pulse, though. Zoanthids and Palythoas are starting to open up except for the Candy Apple Reds (which are my favorite). The SPS are looking really nice. So far so good with the PAR 38 LEDs. I'm going to start dosing B-Ionic. After adding the LEDs, I've been getting lots of coraline algae growing on the rocks which is really cool. Here's a few cell phone shots. left side: Last surviving fish and a zebra hermit: Link to comment

peewee1467
I added a little moni cap, two green ricordeas, some blue clove polyps and a super tiny frag of tyree green polyp toadstool. I had an aiptasia that was getting bigger and bigger so i decided to add a peppermint shrimp before it could spread. I'm gonna wait a little bit before getting a nice FTS. Hopefully I'll have an MP10 and a canister filter with lily pipes in May. Link to comment

But I can't wait to see the new FTS with the all the new equipment too. Link to comment

peewee1467
right side left side This is only temporary. I'm going to add a few more rocks to the left side. The left side will be SPS only and the right side will be everything else. The corals are not in it's final position right now. I just wanted to clear up the sand bed and make it look a bit cleaner. I'm going to get a few really bright and big colonies of SPS in the future and they will dominate the left side of the tank LOL. I'm not too worried about looks right now, I'm just trying to let everything grow out a little bit until I get more money. Link to comment
teamschreiba
Wow that's quite a change. Should look awesome when you fill it up with SPS colonies though. Can you get them from a LFS or? Link to comment

Yeah it's a big change. Needed cash fast so i sold off 20 lbs on craigslist in less than 24 hours, lol. =] There's a LFS pretty close by that has some really nice colored colonies about the size of baseballs for ~50 dollars. I'd rather get the colony instead of a 1 inch frag of something "rare" I also wanna fill in a few spots with a small group of 2" clams. Hopefully some better pictures with a DSLR tomorrow. funkehouse
I actually like the new scape. I tend to like tanks with less rock in it more than ones with too much rock. I like the negative space in the tank. How is your tank now that you have no sump? i am very soon going to be buying the same tank as you and i just cant decide what to do with it. I cant decide if i want to keep it simple and use an AC70 with that new ac70 mod from INtanks, or if i should try and set up a sump with this spare 10 gallon i have sitting around. I want to keep it simple, so im kind of thinking the ac70 is the way to go and i can use the 10 gallon as a quarantine or hospital tank if i ever need it. Im new at this and i just think it might be best to have everything in the same tank for my first try but i dont know... so confused i am !! any thoughts on this since you have done both??? thanks in advance ! and also how do you like those LEDS? what is the color combo on them? how many blues and how many whites on each? My tank seems to be more stable without the sump. I was getting lots of evaporation and it was hard to keep up with on a busy schedule. It's also dead silent in my room now that the sump is gone. To be honest, I like it more without the sump and the hang on back overflow just took up too much space. I pack my Aquaclear filter with lots of floss and it really helps to keep the water looking crystal clear. I might get a canister filter in the future with some lily pipes to achieve a cleaner look. I LOVE the LEDs i have my on tank. They are Evils Par 38 20K. I swapped out the 40 degree optics with 6 degree optics. Theyre just like T5s but less energy and doesn't take up much room. Each bulb has three blues and two whites. Here are some shots i took just a couple minutes after the lights came on. Par 38 FTS 04/04/2011 Right side Left side Link to comment

peewee1467
Definitely looking great Peewee. How do you keep your sandbed so clean though? I mean.. it really is super clean. Thanks! I don't do much to keep the sand bed clean at all. Before i do a water change, I take a credit card and level off the sand bed which causes detritus to float everywhere and my filter catches and everything. After that, i clean out the floss and siphon 5 gallons out and everything looks super clean. Lately, I've been feeding flake food instead of frozen and I've been getting no algae at all. If you look at the photos above, the tank hasn't been cleaned for two weeks. Link to comment
