they have the canon rebel xt for $839 (the black version)

amazon.com has it for 899.00

every store around here has it for 999.00

any one else seen any good or better deals on the canon rebel xt?

Check out this site. It lists most online stores and rates them. Abes of Maine has a pretty good reputation.

Resellers.com

I am doing the same thing right now, trying to figure the best way to go when buying a Rebel XT.

I think I will just buy the body $753 at Abes, and get a Canon EF 28-135mm lens as the main lens. Down the line add the Canon 100mm for Macro.

Most places on Ebay will take Paypal.

Cameta is great, I can't vouch for shipping. My girlfriend actually only lives about 20 minutes from the store, so I just drove there to pick it up. Judging by feedback I'd imagine there is nothing to worry about.

I ordered my camera from some online dealer and it was cheap, like $500 for the Nikon 8700. Then they called me to "confirm". They tried to add on everything under the freaking sun. I told the guy, who didn't speak english all that well and was the "manager" of the fine establishment, that i just wanted the camera and it was for a gift (lie, i knew what they were trying to do). Well he said OK and when I checked my credit card, they added on $60 worth of stuff I said no to.

I called them back and told them to cancel my order.

That was a terrible experience.

I eneded up getting the camera from a competing online company for $50 more and I told them up front that I had a bad experience with another company and didnt want anything but the camera and if that was a problem, I will not order.

I got the camera, no questions, no add ons.

Tho, I did buy extras later, LOL. :D

I just bought the lens I want for my Canon Rebel XT off ebay. I guess I need to buy a camera now. :D

I got the Canon 28-135 F3.5-5.6 IS (Image Stabilazatiuon) USM (Ultrasonic Moter) lens. It is rated as one of the best all around, if you had to have only one lens for you camera lens.

Canon 28-135

I eventually want to get the Canon 100mm Macro lens, but for now I think I will be happy.

Off to buy a body..

You just have to do alot of comparison shopping. This is the deal I wanted from Cameta Camera on Ebay for $1320 plus $18 shipping for $1338 total.

Canon Rebel Xt

I pieced the package out. $770 for the body, $350 for the lens, $75 for a Sandisk 1gb Ultra II, and I got 3 extra batteries for $17, for a total of $1212. The body came from Butterfly Photo. The rest came from auctions on Ebay. The only thing left for me to get is a Camera case which I will buy locally, so I can take my camera in and see how it fits.

Those packages are nice, they just over inflate all the items prices to make it seem like you are getting a better deal.

I should have everythng this coming week.

lgreen,

Yes, that does look like a good deal. I have not read much on the Tamron lens, so not sure, how well it is rated. I think the packages are good deals. If I haden't gotten a good price on the lens I wanted, I might have done a package myself. But pieceing it out saved me a few bucks.

i just go a Nikon D50 and so far i love it. But i definatly need to get a macro lense. I was looking at the Nikkor lenses but i was wondering if there were any other non Nikkor macro lense that are decent but not quite as expensive.

The 350d samples on dpreview are terrible. I'm pretty sure that it's not an indication of the 350d's capabilities and more of a lack of interesting subjects to photograph.

thanks lgreen. It looks like a great lense but i came across the phoenix AF 100mm f/3.4 macro lense and it has a magnification ratio of 1:2 and 1:1 with the dioptor. Its pretty damn cheap also and has gotten pretty good reviews for picture quality. Anybody else have any experience with the lens?

after doing hours of research on cameras, i have completely changed my mind on what I want.

After looking at several pic taken by canon digital cameras (including the digital rebal xt) and the nikon digital cameras (such as the d50, 8800, 8700), I have decided that nikon is what i want.

Based on the pics i looked at, the nikon is takes much crisper pics that really bring out important detail in the photo. the canon seems to leave some of the details a little to soft for my liking.

So based on this, i still need help deciding what to get.

I am stuck between the coolpix 8800, coolpix 8700, d50 slr, and coolpix 7900. All seem to be the best macro cameras available. the 8800 and 8700 have a huge advantage in that they are mega zoom monkeys, with 10x zoom. the d50 has a great advantage in that you can change the lens and get pretty much what ever zoom you want. the coolpix 7900 seems to be a great point and shoot, but lacks manual focusing features.

So i dont know now which one to get.

I think i am leaning more towards either the 8800 or the d50 slr.

i like the way the 8800 looks and that it is not extremely huge. i don't like the fact that the d50 is so big, but i like that you can change lens (although that adds a ton of expense).

this is going to be a tough one. there is only about a 100-200 dollar price difference.

any suggestions?

bascially i want something that has awesome picture quality, has great macro quality, but can also be used for casual photography if needed.
