Fluval Evo Egg Crate Media Basket

I am new to reef aquariums and am loving my fluval evo 13.5 thus far. However, I want to upgrade my filtration from the awful stock sponge. I ordered some egg crate and am planning on creating a diy version of the intank media basket available online. I was wondering, should this egg crate go in chamber 1 or 2 for best filtration? Do the sides of the basket need to be covered for proper filtration flow? Also, does anybody have pictures of a diy basket that they have made? Would be very helpful for building mine 🙏
