Billy's Deep Sandbed Experiment

Hi everybody! Long time no see! I’ve returned to the mainland after a year of living in Hawaii, and I am pleased to report that this tank is still running. It sort of went to seed while I was away and became totally overrun by invasive soft corals, but I have fixed it up and re-themed it a bit since my return. It now houses a bunch of plate corals and tube anemones.

It’s amazing to look back through this thread and see all the changes this tank has been through, from the early days as a seagrass experiment to a mixed reef and now to a sort of sandbed-dwelling invert tank. The deep sandbed has been totally solid through it all, and I’ve learned so much from observing it.

I’m also just blown away by the beauty of sand anemones. They are really unique and interesting creatures that don’t appear often in home aquariums, so I am pleased to have such a good environment for them in this tank.

There is also one fish in here: a bullseye mandarin dragonet. It subsists on the pods and other critters that populate the sandbed.

Okay, that’s all for now! I’ll try to update this thread at least semi-frequently now so stay tuned.
