I removed the rock and put it in its own tank. 10 Gallon. One week later around 2 am a loud crack woke me out of my sleep. Turned light on and tank was busted and all the water on the floor. That would be my main concern but that’s me with my experience. Thumbs down for me in my tank. @Ratvan.👀 2 Quote Link to comment

I don't have room. The shrimp seems to eat the bait. I have a good hope that the trap will work in the coming month 🤞(if not, I will surely retry the all rock out). you wouldn't necessarily need another tank. a bucket could work? at any rate good luck and hope it works. Tired
You could remove the rock into buckets (with lids) for just an hour or two in the process of trying to figure out where he lives? He really looks like he's gone under the rock in that clip, which would make him easy enough to get out if he had no hiding places. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

I worked at a reef store and no one wanted the rock it was living in. So I brought it home and converted my mushroom tank into a mantis tank. Oopsie lol Quote Link to comment

M. Tournesol
Todays, I noticed that the mantis was building a hidey-hole in a rock that was easily removable. Thus, when the light did come out, I quickly removed the incriminated rock. Unfortunately, I am 98% sure that no mantis is in it 😥. Because of the 2%🙏🙏🤞🤞🍀🍀, the rock will stay out of the tank for one night. In this photo, you can clearly see the hole. The only good news is that I did observe a small colonial tunicate 🥰 on the rock. I am a little less jealous of @billygoat seagrass tank now ☹️. Ps: I think the mantis has started its carnage with my snails. I already lost 2-3 of them. bye bye, my cerithiums 😭 1 Quote Link to comment
rough eye
aren't you supposed to pour club soda in that hole and then submerge it back in the water after 30 to 60 seconds? 2 Quote Link to comment
Tired
That's if you want to probably kill the mantis. 1 Quote Link to comment

I have found with mine that typically the entrance to the rock is clear from algae, also any tunnel that it uses typically is built up with sand or other items from within the tank. It builds and makes a lot of different holes but only really uses one or two regularly 1 Quote Link to comment

M. Tournesol
Good new? of the three snails that I thought dead, two are alive and good. I blamed the mantis when she was innocent 😢. 2 Quote Link to comment
M. Tournesol
I just found the third snail 🙄. All three are 100% alive... how could I lose 2 of my cerithiums for like a month in a 8 gallon tank 🤦♂️ 1 Quote Link to comment

M. Tournesol
So, the mantis is still not captured. The update is because this Sir or Ladyship kindly decided to show me its meral spot 😊. I am betting on Gonodactylus smithii (the favorite gonodactylid of roy for an aquarium). Did I win the lottery of live rock 🤨 2 Quote Link to comment
M. Tournesol
The situation: Mister Spaghetti worm has a tendency to drag the shrimp bait from the back of the trap to the front (see the above 22 September post). Mister Mantis, arriving later, decide then to try to reach it from the small hole of the trap cover. What a clown 🤦♂️. 1 Quote Link to comment

Snow_Phoenix
Aww, a smithii! I'd take it, if I had lived closer. They're extremely bold and intelligent. My older one used to play with colored dice. 😊 1 1 Quote Link to comment
