I'm about to swap tanks also so taking some time to read up on various tank threads. Definitely inspirational 🙂 Oh, that’d be the jawbreaker mushrooms. Mine don’t have much of color streaks to them - a little red is coming in here and there, but the bright orange-gold is fine with me. 5 hours ago, Justind823 said: Nice top downs! You've got some real beauts in there. How's the new tank coming along? Is there a thread I need to be aware of? 😅 Still in the garage. A lot of travel lately. I think this wknd I plan to move it into the basement. 3 Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
Tank and stand finally made it to our basement this wknd, plenty of thanks to my wife. we did this on mother's day of all days, but really, she just wants her garage space back, 😂. that corner of the room is terribly uneven - if you look carefully it takes 3 layers of vinyl plank to raise the back of the stand to make it level. need a different permanent solution, we're probably gonna screw a strip of 1/2" (or whatever the 3 layers of vinyl plank measured out to be) plywood all across the bottom in the back. Otherwise, it actually looks pretty good in that corner. we also tried centering on the back wall but didn't like it as much. that backwall also presented a diff kind of uneven-floor challenge. #oldhouseproblem 6 Quote Link to comment
Airedale.Reef
It looks like you made significant progress this weekend! The tank looks like it fits in that space very well. I didn't even notice the vinyl plank until you mentioned it. Another permanent solution could be adjustable leveling feet. I am sure you could find something heavy duty on amazon or your local hardware store that could support the heavy load. 1 Quote Link to comment
TheKleinReef
you could just put a small piece of quarter round to hide that gap between the floor and stand 1 Quote Link to comment

The rest of the tank has been looking pretty good, 🤞 The goni’s have pretty good colors on them, just not much extension. The clowns loving on them probably doesn’t help. the acros grow out zone the right side of the tank, mainly trying to show the OG Oregon Tort on the top of the rock branch and the closeup of the clams and torch I love those clams. Can't wait to have one in my tank some day. Quote Link to comment

Clams are neat....thanks for quoting that post, cuz these derasa clams have grown significantly since those pics. I know they grew, but these pics really gave me some sense of how much growth! But a little base trim will be a nice touch after finish that extra layer of skin. Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
Acros may get all the love around here, but this guy is just as needy if not needier. sun corals require feeding almost daily, daily preferred, with meaty food. This had been fed at least every second day for the past weeks, and its happiness is beginning to show. 10 Quote Link to comment
Kev1n
All credit to you. Sun corals are not the easiest coral to keep healthy. 1 Quote Link to comment

Are you getting rid of this one for another one? yeup, direct 1:1 swap with a local. so I forgot the RODI unit was running and a sh!t ton of water ran from the back room all the way to the basement living area. had to rip up a couple planks of the laminate to allow the floor to air out. that was about 2 wks ago. smh. I'm hoping to get back on track with the new tank setup this wknd with leveling and maybe even test fill. we'll see, there's also a ton of yard/garden work to do outside, not enough time in summer even tho we have more daylight, why is that? 2 Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
The chalice were hungry tonight Watching rainbow chalice “gathered” the food. It’s so f-ing trippy how all the scattered powder slowly formed the line and seemingly walking toward the mouths 2 4 Quote Link to comment

mitten_reef
due to a series of unfortunate events around the tank, culminating with an entire July 4th week with no return pump (which meant no alk dosage, no ATO - both are in the sump). luckily, I moved the heater up to the display a while ago. I lost 90+% of my OP colony. currently observing one tiny booger and a ~1" frag that survived...an arrangement has been made for a frag from a local who has my backup 😁 just in case. 4 Quote Link to comment

Your tank is rocking good biology in general if that much hijinx happened and you only lost 1 colony (and still salvaged a bit). I'd be surprised if they don't regrow well. A fragile tank would just shit the bed, so while an annoying set back, overall your system is strong with the force (IMHO).. 1 Quote Link to comment

One red goniopora is looking a bit rough, but it’s done that before in the past and came out fine. one derasa clam decided to peace out, the other day, with little to no other clues - so it might have been related. But all other clams are happy, if not happier, rn that I’ve done like ~20 gallon water change in less than one week. 2 Quote Link to comment

So I'd just relax and enjoy the hobby the way I can instead. 2 1 Quote Link to comment

I think that'd be a rough ride for a clam, but who knows they sometimes do just check out for no discernible reason. I have a goni that's been clinging to life for probably a year, no amount of lovingly pampered environment seems to make an iota of difference, so I can offer no help there, clearly lol. There are very few problems where a water change is a bad move. It's our first move in 95% of issues, including ones I can't begin to identify. Dinos and some other biome things do better with no water changes, but anything else, the first thing we'll do is start mixing fresh water. 1 Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
I think I'll start a new thread for the 80G. At this rate, the stuff that will be in that tank has very minimal connection to this (most livestock will likely be through new additions), even less so from my original IM30L. So I may as well give that tank a fresh start thread. Quote Link to comment
mitten_reef
Hard to see but did a dry plumb to make sure all the pieces go where they belong, and they all fit (even tho they should). The previous owner will swing by tomorrow to help looking it over 5 Quote Link to comment
