Scorched
I'd HIGHLY advise against using those metal fittings. They will corrode and leech metals into the tank when continually exposed to saltwater. This can mean copper, zinc, tin etc will be in the water and will kill inverts and corals very quickly. They're not going to be in contact with any water. They're just place holders for my inflow/outflow concoction. More pics as soon as everything is running. Link to comment
drewgrano
Progress: I updated my original post to include the equipment I'm using. Link to comment
drewgrano
Ahh... I have a burst of bubbles about every 20 seconds. Can't figure out why. Driving me crazy. Link to comment
drewgrano
from the filter? Yea. I'm pretty sure all my connections are good so I think its either the seal from the lid or the aquastop. If it's still doing it in the morning I'm gonna try new o rings I guess and go from there. drewgrano
Still have bursts of bubbles. Anyone else dealt with air leaks in a Fluval canister filter? Link to comment
nismo_sky32
My fluval 306 that I had running on my freshwater would spit out bubbles for a little after I first set it up and after cleaning. Seems like it'll trap a little air in the canister. I would tilt it in all directions to get as much out as possible upon start up Link to comment
drewgrano
Well... I decided that the bubbles didn't really bother me and weren't going to hurt anything anyways. But I came in to work this morning and my ATO was beeping and my tank overflowed. Luckily the ATO stopped pumping and it looks like only maybe a cup or so of water actually overflowed, but still. Not good. Especially at work. In a room full of computers. It appears that enough bubbles finally stuck to the ATO sensor that it couldn't tell the tank was full. So I'm gonna have to solve the bubble problem after all. I don't like the look of my current setup so I'm brainstorming something new and simpler that hopefully ends up solving whatever problem I have. At least I got it cleaned up before anyone else saw. xiaoxiy
Can you just run lily pipes for your inflow/outflow? Also, sometimes canister filters will get air trapped in them upon startup. This air can be belched out by slightly shaking the canister filter/tilting it! Link to comment

Yea I'm about to just order some lily pipes... none of my cheap diy ideas are looking very good lol. Really just wanted to find a easy solution that looked decent and was easier to clean than lily pipes. an updates? If I can get outta work at a decent time today hopefully an update tomorrow. drewgrano
Not super happy with the crappy diy look... but at least its not leaking anymore and there are no bubbles. I'm gonna prob leave it as is. I'm gonna put some sort of plant on the outside of the left side of the tank and some macro algae on the inside of the left side of the tank to hopefully hide everything. Should look okay. That middle darker rock is coming out eventually. Just using it to seed the tank. Link to comment
drewgrano
Progress. Just need to clean the glass and I'm pretty much good to go I think. Link to comment

drewgrano
Ordered a bunch of livestock today. Probably a little too much for my first order, but it'll be fine. No fish or CUC yet though. Now I gotta see if I can save up for a couple of months for a nice macro lens for my camera. Link to comment

Newtybar
Lucky! I asked (biggest mistake, never ask) the office manager if I could get a tank for my office...they said no aquariums or living things in the office. I wonder if coral count.... Although, hanging my own artwork caused a huge ordeal.... Link to comment

drewgrano
The orange ricordea looks pretty good. Green one's not so bad. The purple one looks terrible, and the white one??? Pretty darn ugly looking zoas. O well. I'll move them to the back when I get more. Can't imagine this torch is gonna make it. Time will tell I suppose. Link to comment
