jamescstein
My clowns do the same thing, though they hang around the return nozzle. My shrimp and gobies live in a 3/4" pvc pipe with 45 degree elbows at both ends. My shrimp doesn't steal frag plugs or snails. I think they do that trying to build walls inside their tunnel. With the pipe they don't need to do that. My new rock in my thread in my signature will actually get them a tube system to live in. 1 Quote Link to comment
HarryPotter
How about a picture of the algae and issues? Maybe there's something someone can suggest to help. Have you checked to see if your top off water is 0 TDS? Feeding less? 1 Quote Link to comment
ReefWeeds
Update 11/12/2015 My tank is running fine pistol shrimp is a Doomsday Prepper... He may have miles of tunnels under the rocks, i believe one day ther rockscape is going to fall apart and kill him.... Tank is the ugliest as it can be, im having a issue with patches of cyano here and there, and have a lot of algae grow on the powerheads and return nozzle. I also have hard time with the Zoas, they are not growing and one frag died, the GSP instead is growing like weed. I have to do a major maintenance tomorrow and then will post some pics! I think every tank in the beginning will go through the uglies. I never dealt with GHA really, but I did deal with cyano and it is a PAIN. Changing flow/upping the flow will help keep cyano at bay I found. 1 Quote Link to comment
Difrano
Some news from the tank: My red mithrax crab is growing crazy i believe hes about 2" now, it is starting to scare me because he easy can kill anything in the tank and look like hes more in the open now hes a giant. First time i see the cleaner shrimp in action, yesterday night Rojito approached hard face (orange spotted goby) and gave him a nice spa session with mouth cleaning included, it was just awesome, i didn't have my phone near next time i stare at the tank i should have it. I have a lot white puffs from the rock as soon as the lights go out, and look like the fishes try to eat it, I have tons of spaghetti worm in the rock i believe they are trying to spawn. I Have an issue with my Frag plugs, i have them on the sand and every morning they are in the same spot but upside down.... I cant find the guilty guy.... I will do a major cleanup this week and will post pictures as I finish. 1 Quote Link to comment

D Z
Could be the cleaner, the mithrax or snails. Whenever I put frag plugs in the sand, they always get knocked over +1 to snails usually being the culprit for this, specifically nassarius snails. 1 Quote Link to comment

Difrano
Hello, Its me........ HA! I didn't die nor my tank! lot of things happened since last update.... I had to spend a lot of time in California last NOV-DEC, then went to Italy 2 weeks for new years to visit my family, and this year started with me travelling a lot to Massachusetts.... So my poor tank is suffering a lot. After my trip to Italy the friend of mine that was babysitting the tank had no clue about feeding and when I came back in January the tank was covered in Cyano, the walls were purple i didnt know if anything survided until I cleaned a little the glass and was able to see that everybody was fine, The GSP and Zoa also survived.... After a few weeks i was able to control and clear the Cyano but now i have a hair algae issue that is covering the whole tank, I have not added anything new due to the lack of time. I have a really loud clicking sound that i assume is one or more mantis shrimp that came with the live rock and i assume they have been growing in the past 6 months, is not the pistol because is a different clicking sound Some tank pics: On the back wall there is like white dots, any ideas? they are like mini balls like <1 mm raised. My best friend in Mass: This was during last winter storm, now hes gone . Quote Link to comment

My best friend in Mass: This was during last winter storm, now hes gone . they are some type of snail, they are in my dad's tank. Usually we just razor them off of the glass but since the biocube has a plastic back it's a lot harder to get rid of them without a plastic blade for your scraper. Quote Link to comment
ReefWeeds
Welcome back!!! I think every tank goes through the "uglies" and glad you beat back the cyano Glad everything is doing well. The white circle things on the back wall are spirorbis worms. Harmless! And I really like the snowman! Quote Link to comment
Difrano
Rojito is gone.... RIP. I came back from Providence yesterday and found him partially consumed on the sand bed, I have 2 theories, molt gone wrong or mantis got him.... I need to start thinking about removing the mantis..... 1 Quote Link to comment
vlangel
Ah, sorry about Rohito.:-( I would be surprised that a mantis would not have consumed all of him but maybe it is still a pretty small mantis. Glad you are back! Quote Link to comment
Difrano
Now Blanquito is gone too.... Just dissapear overnight, no trace... I have to take a water sample to my lfs and see if there is something bad, my test give me 0 on ammonia and nitrites and 15 on nitrates Do you beleive a mantis can kill a cleaner shrimp? Difrano
Quick update on this tank, after 5 strong years the past weekend was upgraded to a Red Sea Reefer 250, I did not keep any corals on this tank just fish rocks invert and macros. I will start a build thread about the new tank. Cheers Quote Link to comment
