metrokat
Clam died. I left for work for a 24 hr shift Friday morning and when I got home Saturday morning it was an empty shell. I'm sorry about the clam E. The picture you posted did not show a happy critter. Link to comment
Eisernes
The water the clam came in was really cold so I think maybe it just didn't ship well. I dripped acclimated it for about an hour but I think my parameters are pretty close to what they keep theirs at anyway. The order also included a stylophora and a birdsnest which were bleached out pretty bad. I think I'm going to stop ordering stuff. My healthiest pieces are the ones I picked up within an hour or two from my house. Link to comment
teenyreef
Dang, sorry to hear that. Cold water is not a good thing to find with mail order corals Link to comment
Eisernes
I glued down a couple more frags today and got a nice little surprise. I had a small monti frag that was thrown in with a trade a while back. It was a brown algae covered booger so I didn't pay much attention to it but I figured I'd leave it in there on the rack and see what it does. Slowly the algae died off. It started to grow and turn green. Today I decided it was big enough for it's own place in the sun and when I examined it from the top I saw that it had a purple rim. I do believe it is a jedi mind trick undata. Pretty nice for something that almost ended up in the trash. Almost had a disaster on Thursday night. I was having trouble with my cheapo doser not maintaining a siphon so I moved the containers up higher thinking gravity would help. WRONG. I got up in the middle of the night and walked by my computer. My fusion was on the screen and the pH said 8.78! It normally runs right at 8.0. I knew exactly what it was and ran downstairs and unhooked the lines from the dosing containers. I gravity fed about 3/4 of the quart jar into the tank. The whole thing was milky looking. I had to get up at 4:30 to work a 24hr shift so there was nothing I could do about it but hope for the best. When I got home this morning the pH was back to normal and the water was clear. Alk was a little low before this happened at about 6.6 and it was up to 8.6. I figure with normal 24hrs of consumption it was probably close to 10 when I caught it. So far everything looks good. I scraped some residue off of the glass today so alot of it probably precipitated out. there is also a white residue on the powerhead. Luckily I had diluted the alk solution in rodi for dosing but it still probably dumped about 1/2 cup in there. That thing is going in the trash. Hand dosing from now on until I can get a better doser. Purigen is some awesome stuff. I started adding it to my carbon/gfo mix in the reactor and ever since then the film on the glass is almost non existent. I have gone from scraping the glass every three days to not even needing it once a week. Coraline is starting to take hold as well. It's all over the plastic surfaces and it looks like there are some small purple dots forming on the rock. Link to comment

Didn't really capture the color well in the pic. The stalks are dark green at the bottom and get lighter as they go up with the pink tips. 2015-04-04_05-16-33 by Eisernes, on Flickr Red Planet. It still has a little bit of color. 2015-04-04_05-19-20 by Eisernes, on Flickr I think this captures a little bit more of that nice gold color. 2015-04-04_05-19-52 by Eisernes, on Flickr Link to comment
Halo_003
That's scary, what doser was it? Link to comment
Eisernes
It's a Jecod DP-2. It was advertised and sold as a Jebao DP-2. Probably made in the same factory. The pump head looks like any other pump head. The inside has three cylinders rotated by a metal shaft. At no time do the cylinders provide enough pressure to pinch off the tubing inside to maintain a siphon or prevent a back siphon. I thought I might find a fix for it somewhere on the internet but I could never trust it after this. I'm just going to have to save up and get something known to be reliable. The second photo showing the inside failed to upload. 2015-04-05_12-36-54 by Eisernes, on Flickr Link to comment
Reefkid88
Looking awesome man,Halides are gods lol. That Red Planet is looking good !!! That sucks about the doser though, and super scary. I could only imagine how that would be catastrophic for the tank. At least Eshopps aren't that exapensive. Link to comment
teenyreef
Dang, that sucks about the doser. I haven't had that problem with mine, but I don't let the tubes get too close to the water so that it can't siphon. Link to comment
