Odyssey350kc
A few full tank shots, also got some big frags in trade for about half of my frogspawn. 3 Quote Link to comment
Odyssey350kc
So. It was starting to look like my dinos were coming back, and I had a few patches of either hair algae or bryopsis, so I decided to do another 2 day blackout and dose reef flux again, however this time all of my acros suffered. They all turned a light brownish white. Now I am not sure if the blackout and reefflux were the cause of the color change, but they looked great right before the blackout. I made another post to try and get some answers but I figured I would update the tank thread to keep track of how long it takes them to recover. Quote Link to comment
Odyssey350kc
Well after some research I think I know what happened to the acros. I forgot to mention I was alos adding vibrant every day. I didn't realize you could overdose it, it looks like many other people have had the same issue if they used too much. Supposedly the vibrant isn't the problem as much as the fact that it causes your nitrates and phosphates to rapidly drop. 1 Quote Link to comment
Odyssey350kc
Well, it seems like it's always something with these tanks, I guess it's just the nature of the hobby, but now I am having problems with either cyanobacteria or dinoflangelles again. It's kind of hard to tell it's like a mixture of brown and red coloration. All of my parameters are in check and fairly steady for the last month or so, but I still seem to get these issues. I decided to start dosing vibrant again, but starting with half as much, half as often as I did before, hopefully this will keep the sps from reacting badly. On a more exciting note I did recieve my new aqamai wavemaker. I was sold after I saw how small it really was on a brs video. I had planned on putting it in the front corner of my tank to eliminate a dead spot, but I found that it didn't have the power to compete against the mp10 positioned on the opposite wall. So I ended up putting it in the back corner much closer to the majority of the sps, and placing my hydor powerhead in the front instead. The new pump is very cool and when I shut off the return pump you can really see how well the wavemaker function works. I also love the mounting system, it mounts on a magnetic rubber cup that allows a ton of adjustment very easily. I also got these little clips to hold the power cord of the hydor powerhead just underneath the lip of the tank, and they seem to be holding up good, and I love the fact that you can't see the power cord. And a full tank shot to see progress 1 Quote Link to comment
Odyssey350kc
So. I believe that I have a mixture of diatoms, hair algae, and red cyanobacteria. I did make the mistake of saying I was dosing vibrant, when In fact I was using microbacter 7. I hear them used in the same situations alot and forgot which one I had bought. So I am going to actually try vibrant now since the microbacter 7 doesn't seem to be making any real changes, the diatoms just seem to be getting worse. I also ordered some rowaphos which I heard can help reduce silicate and kill off diatoms. Quote Link to comment
Odyssey350kc
It's been a while since my last update. The tank has had its ups and downs but overall looking ok. I do seem be constantly battling some sort or another of algae. And lately I am having a tough time keeping my alkalinity above 6. Thinking about getting a kalk reactor but I'm not sure if it's worth the price. Quote Link to comment
