cju84
thank you, cj! i'm really happy about that pick. and another chicago reefer? there are many of you! We couldn't be further from a real reef being (or the ocean in general) in Chicago, so this seems to be the next best thing! Plus who wouldn't want a nano in their home?! Link to comment

Plus who wouldn't want a nano in their home?! i couldn't agree more, cj!! okay. i'm freaking out a little. i'm reading on the local forum about coral placement, and now i'm scared i've made my little tank into a warzone. i'm wondering if i should move my fungia away from my frogspawn? everything has looked so cute and friendly, but we've seen fotos of what can happen. total noob mistake. cindyp
picked up my first acan today! i also got a red freebie acan from ASD, bought three small cerith snails, and also picked up larry's reef frenzy. i can't say that the corals took to the reef frenzy (nor the sexy shrimps!) any more than they did to the mysis shrimps though? the acans opened and ate straight away. i hope they do okay. for the online sale, another plug had been advertised, but in person, i liked this one, and will (the owner) gave it to me for same price, even though it has a baby polyp. they've always been great with their service! after my panic last night, i separated the fungia and the frogspawn as far as i could. hope everything does okay. they all seem Happy Together so far. gena
Love the new acan! I'm not sure if frogspawn would give a fungia trouble. I don't think so, but better safe than sorry . Link to comment

I don't think so, but better safe than sorry . thanks, gena! i spent a lot of time in the store looking at the acans in technicolor. amazing. and honestly, i was really drawn to the symphllia and (dare i say!) the lobos they had for sale. but i simply don't have the space!! but i'm pretty happily and heavily stocked now. fishies this weekend. cindyp
What a cute little acan!! rainbow acan....very nice =) thanks! i hope it does okay. it looks like my ultra flower nem is doing a walk about. i'm hoping it'll just stay on the rock it's on, but i have a suspicion they might wander into the sand bed too if they have a mind? aiiiii woke to my green mushrooms fallen off the rock--but they are okay. i've yet to ever glue anything down successfully or commit to that! wonder if i should. have had no luck just using the putty. cindyp
Beautiful acan! thanks, mike! he cost a pretty penny too. but i'm so limited in space, i figured, if i'm going to buy and put in tank, might as well splurge and put in something i love. Link to comment

cindyp
hello friends! lunch break and i've actually written words today! i'm a fantasy novelist and am under contract with a small press for two books. the first is done (other than copyedits) and releasing next fall. my sequel is due in februrary. i think i have at least 30k more words to write, and i've been dragging my feet, staring at my tank instead. today, i finally wrote. so hoorah. i'm glad i got a foto of my only black stomatella snail. he was and probably remains the biggest one in my 8g, and i had trasferred him over very carefully from my 3g pico in a plastic spoon. anyway, i was *very* amused to see that the hitchhiker has some hitchhikers on him: spirorbid worms. maybe i'm easily amused? ha! and here's a foto of my freebie red acan from ASD. though i think it skews more orange in my tank? the sexies favorite nem is this one, though last night, i did see one of them hosting the ultra nem. for whatever reason, they've decided that this nem is more friendly? both nems are eating and doing very well. and i think the ultra orange one has stopped wandering, for now. okay, back to writing for me!! cindyp
aw hell. i think i made the noobiest of all noob mistakes. i took the fam with me to pick out some fish. i had read, with the exception of the mandarin goby, that blennies and gobies are good for the nano. well, i got a rainford goby which is supposedly super hard to keep and feeds on live stuff and hair algae (my 3g pico was overrun with amphipods and hair algae, this 1 month 8g, not so much) and THEN i got a red scooter blenny. which is NOT a blenny and more like a mandarin goby in feeding difficulty. i'm so screwed. the LFS doesn't take returns either. not sure about exchanges. i do have some live copepods in the tank. but not sure if enough for these two. FlowerMama
You might want to see if you can do a trade w/ a local reef or have them buy them off you. Yeah, red scooters are mandarins. They call them blennies so people will buy them. Link to comment
ninjamyst
i dont think the rainford goby should be too bad. i was going to get one a few months ago but my LFS didn't carry them. do you have frozen food? as for the red scooter blenny, that will be a tough one. since you are adding two fish at the same time plus increased feeding for these picky eaters, make sure to keep a close eye on water params and not let nitrate / phosphate get out of hand. owenj
Love the new acans! Maybe pop over to the mandarin thread & get some tips on how they wean them over to frozen foods? I've heard mixed things on rainfordi gobies--uniquecorals sells them supposedly already eating frozen. Definitely follow ninja's advice about keeping an eagle eye on water params with the increased feedings you'll need. Side note--so cool you're a fantasy author! That's the genre I enjoy writing the most too, but nothing published yet. Link to comment

I have no suggestions for you, sorry. Maybe you will be lucky and both will be good eaters. I wish you luck! I was thinking about a rainsford goby, so let me know how he does! thanks kimberbee. will let you know on the rainford. it's very pretty and was very active when i had the lights on. now the light is off, it's hiding beneath a rock. total noob mistake today. aiiiii Love the new acans! I love the color combos you can get in acans. Plus it's pretty cool to see their feeding response. LPS are my first loves, never been huge into SPS but I'm still pretty new to the reef scene. I guess you could say I write both, but am closer to having something "publishable" (as in, ready to trudge down the road of rejection I'm sure it'll build character) as a short story. Medieval fantasy is my comfort zone. It's also what I like to read best, but I try to read broadly too. Link to comment

gena
My guilty pleasure is reading Nora Roberts . I love her murder/stalker infused with sex/romance, stories . That's what I would write if I ever were to sit down and write a book. I enjoy fluff . I'm sooooo glad they let you trade in the scooter for the GCG. You won't be sorry. They are darling little fish.
