Son has graduated and mom is packed up.  2 days off and then the move.  Argh.

Tank is stable and looking good, colors are decent (yea, I'm picky about the reds). :)

I have been running PolyFilter in both tanks for a few weeks just to detect any over doses.  Nothing.  The one in the 40 had a piece sticking out of the water so I decided to do a little experiment with additives I have that contain copper.

Front Left is MicroE  (colorless)

Center is ZeoSpur 2 (seriously!)

Right size is AF Energy (orange food plus some copper)

My goodness!

Oh my :haha:

Don't change a thing :)

And congratulations on your son's graduation! Mine graduates in two weeks, and my daughter just graduated from college last week. Good luck with your mom's move!

Learned a lesson in flow, i guess. :D

2 weeks ago I noticed this on my setosa (this is a top down shot).

OauV9Np.jpg

The browning is skin getting pulverized by flow that is racing between these rocks to feed the 3 pumps I have on the left side of the tank.  I didn't even think about flow heading into the pumps, I was only concerned about flow from the pump output.  Oops.  I turned down the rear pump and my new monster pump, plus I redirected the flow down and toward the back of the tank to help break up the direction.

RDrpcrv.jpg

My blue acro, which I have been having issues coloring up, appears to have been hating that flow as well.  I lost an entire section in front but since adjusting the pumps it's recovered some hard growing edges and has regained some color.  This helps to explain why a frag in the sandbed has such good color and growth, unlike these.  Flow, or too much of it.  Pffft.

Another FTS since things are going so well at the moment.

Finally had some time to sit in front of the tank as the lights dimmed down.  It's really in the grove at the moment.

Finally getting some blue tips on the Hawkins.

My mystery frag green acro has been moved to where Pinky was, lots of light, and showing some new growth at the base.  Looks oddly familiar ... no, couldn't be.

Pinkish milli up high remains pinkish.

The blue stag might be getting more blue, maybe.

Since this is showing better yellow all the time I guess it's a lemonade of some sort.

I finally has some time to just sit down in front of the tank.  This is one of those view from the chair shots.  Color not great from down here but it's really amazing how big some of these colonies have gotten.  The one above the Foxfaces head is the 'baby' Katropora.

I have wanted a flame 'i like to nip' angel for a long time.  I have a coral beauty and was at the store to replace my neon goby and they had two.  I picked the punkiest one and so far he has settled in well even though he's a tiny little thing.

When first added he started getting chased by the the coral beauty and the sixline so I switched off the main power and let them have dark for an hour while I ate.  Good test for the battery backup as well.  Turned everything back on and the sixline started in again but the midas blenny kicked his ass ... I mean chased him all over the tank.  The flame setup bottom right near where the blenny lives and the clowns lay eggs.  The sixline keeps coming back over but the flame completely ignores him ... drives the sixline crazy but he won't attack unless he senses fear.  Crazy fish personalities.

The coral beauty has swam by a couple of times now and the little flame darts at him so he swims off.  lol.  I'm told this behavior can be unpredictable for a few weeks so I've got to keep an eye on everyone.

The anthias, both male and female, came over to check out the flame and he chased them off.  Plenty of hiding places, under the big frogspawn, in the xenia forest, under the caps, in the rocks ... hopefully he'll be ok.  Next step is ich, he's got to survive at least a mild case of it which means I will be feeding heavy for the next week or so.

Little dude is all over the tank, and though the Coral Beauty chases him a bit he turns around and comes back at him.  I got crazy lucky ... or this will be one monster aggressive fish when he grows up. :)   The sixline completely gave up and now turns away when he sees him.  I suspect I missed a fight.

Not too difficult to get a picture of either.

You can't really see in this picture but the little wakeup coral is showing more colors, some green and bluish.

Ok, I'm curious.

You said the next step for the Flame Angel is that he has to survive a mild case of Ich.

Why is that?

I assumed the angel came with some ich, or showed it right after it was introduced.

Working at petco, 90% of angels died of ich within 2 days of delivery. Yet the tangs in the same system were always fine.

This tank has Ich, I've had it in both tanks since I first started the hobby.  I am not a believer that Ich can be completely eradicated from a tank so I never bothered to try.  Any new fish added to either of my tanks is susceptible to getting Ich, sometimes very minor and sometimes it seems to kill them quickly.  He showed spots on the tail fin soon after I added him but they fell off quickly, so the big question is what happens in a few days as the Ich (cryptosomething) cycle starts over.

I'm feeding a lot of various foods to keep everyone fat and happy.

The real risk with not doing QT is something far worse than Ich .. I take chances and hope for the best.  I only buy fish from one store here locally and only if they've been around for a week or so, meaning I usually miss out on Flame Angels.  It's slow this time of year so I lucked out.

Thanks Harry. :)  I like a lot of the colors you are pulling that seem to fail in this tank.  Probably nutrient related or something.

Interesting.

I just haven't heard of someone approaching dealing with Ich that way and was intrigued.

What is the something worse than Ich?

Marine Velvet and a few other unnamed diseases that can wipe out a tank.  Rarer but still risky.

The little Flame is still going strong.  So far he has not eaten any food I feed but looks well fed so he's getting plenty of something.

Heat and humidity skyrocketed this week so the house is closed up and CO2 is rising.  Last night I finally had to re-hook up the outside skimmer hose after running 6 months without it.

I'm ranting.

The Nest camera are absolute shit on a stick.  I added a WiFi extender to help boost the signal so now the error message for the shit picture has changed.  Instead of WiFi signal issues it's now WiFi interference.   Bullshit.  Your camera is complete crap is the problem.  I bought a cheap Yi Home Cam, 1080P, same wifi network.  Strong signal, crystal clear picture at 25fps with no interference because THERE IS NO INTERFERENCE.

As a software engineer I hate crap products with crap software and error messages that lie.

Going to try the Foscam now since other reefers have had good experience with them and it works with the Apex.

Bought an outdoor cam so we can hear if our little dog barks when all the windows are closed.  I have to set it to 720P rather than 1080P.  At 1080P it tells me WiFi interference, and if I set to auto it constantly tries to upgrade quality and fails.  I've spent over a week trying to figure out the interference issue until finally I bought a camera other Nest haters say works great ... and it does, no dropouts, no interference.  Not sure what the hell happened to Nest (they were DropCam when I bought my first one) but I recommend staying well away from these frustrating pieces of crap.

Look how bad the outdoor picture is at 720P.  Plus thay are now starting to bug me about upgrading subscriptions all over the page.

Ok, for some good news.  Today a refurbished D5500 body should arrive.  I'm looking forward to the 1080P 60fps video plus the swivel LCD, which should make taking top downs easier.

I really miss my tilting/swiveling screen on my 70D.  It was great for top tripod shooting and UWA selfies.
