NanoClown
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Eventually algae and your palys will grow over it so it will blend in and look natural Link to comment
cswan19
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Eventually algae and your palys will grow over it so it will blend in and look natural Yeah, thats what I figured, I would rather not mess with the coral anymore to avoid too much stress. Thanks nano Update: June 23, 2014 Did a 30% Water change and tank cleaning this morning as well as some water tests. Here are the parameters from about an hour after the water change. pH: 7.8 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 0 ppm Calcium: 360 (still low, but better than before. Still dosing daily to bring it up) Alkalinity: 9 dKH Salinity: 1.026 Temp: 75.9* F *As I stated I dosed 2.5 mL of nanocode A (calcium) and 2.5 mL of nano code B (alk) Also I had a couple of vermetid snails that I snapped the tubes of and filled the areas with super glue gel. Hopefully that was all of them. Nass is checking out the ric. Nerite is just hanging around. Also, I'm getting more and more color on my dry rock every day And of course a FTS 6/23/14 Link to comment
cswan19
Also, I am in the process of building a media basket made of egg crate thanks to the help of nanoclowns guidance. I was planning to do CPE on the bottom Purigen in the middle and filter floss on the top. The problem is I don't have filter floss as it is pricier than I would like at my LFS. I plan to order some and put it in the media basket when I get back from vacation. What could I use in the meantime as my filter floss? Or should I just keep the stock sponge that came with my spec in until I order some floss? Link to comment
Daveluce
For filter floss, I use poly fill stuffing from Walmart. It's less than 4$ for a big bag that will last you at least 3-6 months. Make sure it's not the flame retardant stuff though. Nice tank too! I've been following your thread since the beginning, and have learned a lot from it. Link to comment
ashtricks
Last time I went to Walmart to ask for poly fill, they said they had to stop selling it for some safety reason. May be state regulations, or the person was just giving me a foo foo reason. If you dont find that in Walmart, you will definitely find it in craft stores. Some people say fire retardant that they use on the poloyfill is bad. Might be worth to get one without that. Link to comment

Thanks, the kind words mean a lot to me Thats super cheap! I will definitely check that out. Is that something I can use long term? Or should it just be a temporary thing? Hmm, I'm pretty sure there is a craft store by my house, so if walmart doesn't carry it I'll look at a craft store some that is not flame retardant. Thanks for your help Link to comment
Daveluce
Long term is just fine. There are tons of people that use it. Since it's so cheap, you just throw replace it with new and throw out the old rather than squeezing it out in old tank water like traditional filter pads. Link to comment

cswan19
Just a bit of a photo dump Nass snail just scooting around looking cute. He also has a little spot on his "tail" Pulsing xenia is doing great Also GHA is pretty much completely gone from my camo palys. Thanks to all that gave me help and advice on how to do the H2O2 dip. One of the entrances to my pistol shrimp, Eddy's burrow. And of course my ricordea looking beautiful as usual Link to comment

cswan19
It's looking so good Swan!!! My tank's been a bit hectic lately Thanks kijho. And sorry to hear that man, how so? I think your tank is looking sweet Update from June 25, 2014 Finally made the egg crate media basket (thanks nanoclown) and it fits pretty well. I also picked up some polyfil from Walmart for about $3. It doesn't say anywhere on it that it is flame retardant and the warning label on the bag says flammable, so I am assuming it is safe. My shrimp is hard to photograph as he is always moving (blurry shot) or he is in his burrow. But I managed to get a couple shots of Eddy today so here is one of the better ones. Also I usually just put some sinking pellets in for my shrimp and the flow kinda takes them all around the tank and they land in various places. Well I guess one must have landed on my camo paly cause I came back about 10 minutes after feeding and saw that it was eating a pellet. Haha pretty cool. Also a picture of my trumpet coral just for the heck of it. Love the trumpet Also my LFS got a HUGE shipment of ricordeas in of all different colors but I had to fight myself not to buy a few. I can't afford any corals at the moment, I need to have some money for my trip and I leave Saturday morning haha. Hopefully they will still have some when I get back And another FTS 6/25/14 Link to comment

ashtricks
Irony of life I also picked up some polyfil from Walmart for about $3. It doesn't say anywhere on it that it is flame retardant and the warning label on the bag says flammable, so I am assuming it is safe. Link to comment
cswan19
Another couple of pictures to share. Late last night I was getting ready to go to bed and wanted to check out the tank one last time. Flipped on the light and snapped a couple of pictures too. The first is my trumpet coral with its sweeper tentacles out. I see it do this every night and still find it super interesting. Night time: Day time: Also a shot of my tiger pistol shrimp hard at work strengthening his burrow entrance. Link to comment
Tropi
love your tank and ricordea I'd love to get a ricordea some time and finally found a store that sells them, if only they weren't so expensive. Link to comment

cswan19
Hey guys, I left for vacation yesterday and now I'm up north with my family for the next month. My tank is in the hands of my sister, but I'm confident she has everything under control. I've walked her through everything multiple times so she knows what to do. She has agreed to send me parameters every week along with pictures of the tank and corals every now and then. So I plan to give some updates as much as I can. Link to comment
Tropi
I'm guessing it must be because of different countries so different prices. Ricordeas here are $40 a piece and cleaner shrimps are around the $150 or more mark Hope you have an awesome vacation Link to comment
cswan19
I'm guessing it must be because of different countries so different prices. Ricordeas here are $40 a piece and cleaner shrimps are around the $150 or more mark Hope you have an awesome vacation Wow that's is crazy expensive. My LFS practically gives the shrimp away lol. It's crazy how much things can vary from place to place. And than you I have been enjoying myself so far! Sorry I haven't been posting much while I am away. I have been pretty busy and getting to a computer is a bit of a challenge lol. But I come to you with a bit of an update. Here are the parameters from July 1st and 2nd. pH: 7.8 - 8.0 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 0 ppm Calcium: 400 ppm Alkalinity: 10 dKH Salinity: 1.027 Temp: 78.3* F *My sister topped off with freshwater after testing to bring the salinity down a bit. Here are the parameters from July 8th, 2014 pH: 8.0- 8.2 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 0ppm Calcium: 380 ppm Alkalinity: 9 dKH Salinity: 1.026 Temp: 79.2* F *I had my sister dose 2.5 mL for calcium and I am having her test everyday an dose if necessary to bring the level back up. I will have her dose for Alk eventually since that is getting a bit low as well. There have been a few mishaps thanks to Eddy the shrimp moving corals around. There have been a few mornings where my sister has woken up to moved and flipped over corals. She has managed to get everything back upright without much of a problem and the shrimp hasn't been troublemaking much lately. Here are a few pictures, sorry for the poor quality and blue tint. My sister is afraid she will mess up the settings of the light so she takes the pictures with the blue lights on lol Overall, my sister is doing a good job and the tank is doing well so far although I still don't like being away from my tank. I am having a good time while I am away though. Also here are a few pictures from one of our hikes that I thought I would share with you guys haha I will try to bring updates but as I said it is tough to find the time and computer to get on here. Hope all is well in the nano reefing world Link to comment
