xiaoxiy
To mame, or not to mame, that is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the (nutrition) swings and algae of outrageous feedings Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles, And by opposing, end them? To mame, to sump— Link to comment
xiaoxiy
Well. To sump. All good things must come to an end. Some of you might remember akarch and his build. Well, I picked up his system. Feeding constantly, to keep the gorgonians alive, has done my water quality in a bit. As some of you know, I've been debating whether to sump my system or not. It just so happens, that his system on craigslist for quite cheap, and decided that it would be cheaper to pick it up than to buy a Mame for my system. https://flic.kr/p/pomeKL'>https://flic.kr/p/pomeKL'>image by https://www.flickr.com/people/126956351@N07/'>yang_xiaoxi, on Flickr https://flic.kr/p/p8T4at'>https://flic.kr/p/p8T4at'>image by https://www.flickr.com/people/126956351@N07/'>yang_xiaoxi, on Flickr https://flic.kr/p/p8Tmzu'>https://flic.kr/p/p8Tmzu'>image by https://www.flickr.com/people/126956351@N07/'>yang_xiaoxi, on Flickr https://flic.kr/p/p8TTTj'>https://flic.kr/p/p8TTTj'>image by https://www.flickr.com/people/126956351@N07/'>yang_xiaoxi, on Flickr Link to comment

xiaoxiy
OH. And I forgot. This size upgrade, along with sump, reactors, and skimmer also means I can also get more fish. What whaaaa... Best part is, my LFS tends to get really lucky with pipefish, and many of the pipefish they get will immediately accept frozen mysis. Link to comment
k4ndyk1ng
looking foward to the new tank, will it have a white background because the overflow box is black, or will you have a black background? Link to comment

I think I'm going to run with the black background and see where it takes me. While I love the clear background and was worried about what a black background would do to my scape, I taped a black sheet of paper onto the back of my edge, and realized that I actually kind of liked it. AKA like yours As happy as I am for a new tank, I'm sad to see the clear background and lily pipes go. I'm definitely going to run a ADA 90P, or something with those dimensions, in the future (I even have a scape already planned out). If you're going to run a 16x16x16 cube, why not get a mame overflow ? I personally decided against a mame for my system because I would have to remake a new stand, spent a buttload of $$, and the mame would have looked huge on my shallow tank. Plus the new tank setup only cost me $135. Link to comment

xiaoxiy
cheap tank lol, but my tank will be drilled, but that Mame overflow looks sick, never even knew it existed after 4 years in this hobby :/ I've been thinking about how to keep a drilled tank w/ an overflow clean/minimalistic. I came up with two ideas. -a DIY ghost overflow (think reef saavy) that runs along the side of the tank (instead of the back), with a removable, magnetic, frosted overflow. -Or, frosted DIY ghost overflow along the back, with a frosted background to hide the piping. k4ndyk1ng
I was thinking when the tank gets built, have white acrylic for the back panel and cut a lower bit in it so the water will flow over into an acrylic box where the bulkheads will be and plumping ect. Link to comment

That's a great idea! But also keep in mind that a clear/frosted background gives of a subtly different effect than a white background does. Link to comment
