jedimasterben
I was planning on moving my LEDs to the new heatsinks this weekend, but my thermal adhesive has gone bad and will not set, so I need to order more. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
It's fine, it's really no rush. At this point I am actually going to take a step away from the LEDs and start working on the actual tank, I figured I have quite some time even after the tank is running before I'll even need the LEDs anyways so I might aswell start on getting the stand ready for paint and the list of stuff I need to do, the lights can wait for now but, when you are ready just let me know. jedimasterben
Sure thing. Be sure to keep that tank thread updated! You should update your sig to have a link to it. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Actually that's a good idea. I've been working on getting the light enclosure prepped and painted but I'm doing it outside on my patio and across the way there is a screaming little brat so I can literally only be out there for 5 minutes before I was throw something. CrazyEyes
Alright well since I decided to just dedicate this to the actual build thread I'll add some of the actual build photos. The stand, nothing has changed on this yet, will be getting prepped, sanded and painted tomorrow hopefully. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0657_zps7ea67325.jpg.html'> Picked up a 40B from Petco. My reef octo nwb-150 fits so nicely in there, also the skimmer is getting a bubble blaster 2000 which will basically turn the skimmer into a reef octo sro 2000, considering I got the skimmer for free this is actually a great idea. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0662_zpsa61706a7.jpg.html'> Tank on the stand, g/f gives it the thumbs for now, until I start cramming the tank with what she calls "colorful sticks" http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0671_zps75b5cfef.jpg.html'> 3/4" EMT conduit, I have since cut them down so they don't overhang so much. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0676_zps2ecf5906.jpg.html'> Thanks to how this tank was drilled, the plumbing is going to be crazy easy. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0680_zps37ffe4ea.jpg.html'> This is how I decided to hang the lights, I know the extra long i bolts look a little funky but it should help me make fine adjustments on height and leveling the fixture. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0716_zpsae88e8d4.jpg.html'> The American Dj powerstrip, the stand is getting a back and I am going to build a little box around this help against moisture. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0725_zps6bfecd2e.jpg.html'> More pics to come once I start getting things moving along. Tyron
hey i have to build a new stand for my 75. i came across your design and i really like it alot. are you worried about it at all. does it feel strong and solid? i like how you can fit a 40b under it! Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Im honestly not worried about this stand in the slightest. This thing could hold a car up, only thing I'm worried about is that with tank and stand it's 5 feet tall but it's getting anchored to the wall. Link to comment
Tyron
Great! How tall is your stand? Link to comment
CrazyEyes
The stand itself is 39" tall. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Only thing is, right now it's kind of unstable but I think that's just how it works, it doesn't help that the stand is twice as tall as it is wide. The weight of the water in the DT and sump should honestly hold it down more than enough but anchors are cheap insurance. Link to comment
Tyron
With your setup you have now, how much shorter do you think you would make it if you could do it over? Link to comment
CrazyEyes
I wouldn't make it any shorter. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Just finished the sump, will clean it up a bit after the silicone cures, but this is literally right after I took off the tape and siliconed the trim back on top. There are a few blemishes but you probably won't even see it once it's filled. SO MUCH skimmer room. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
I've been trying to get the stand worked on and I was going to take it outside on our patio but, it's been raining for 3 days straight now. Goddamn "sunshine state". Link to comment
CrazyEyes
One thing after another, first it rained for 3 days damn near straight then the g/f got sick. I haven't been able to do anything to this thing except look at it and wish it was done. I did add the 4th and last baffle to it, after for some reason the 4th baffle which was the exact same width as the other baffles, it didnt fit so the glass shop had to grind 1/8 off the end. Added that, got bored and wondered what a sump would look painted black. Actually like it so I think I'll paint the sides and bottom. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0735_zps100e9d10.jpg.html'> Oh and, can one of the mods move this to the appropriate section please? CrazyEyes
Worked a little more on the stand, now I just need to get this damn tank off the stand so I can start sanding it. Covered the back and the inner sides. It will all be sealed, wood filled, sanded and painted. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
So when nobody around you wants to take time of their busy Saturday you find a way to take a 75g tank of the stand by yourself, drag the stand on your smaller than a jail cell patio and you start hand sanding the shit out the stand because you went to a LFS yesterday to get bulkheads and, you saw all the awesome acros and other SPS so you decide to get on your game. This is only like 45 minutes of work, it's hot out and I need to get a dust mask before I do anymore but so far so good. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/IMG_0740_zps6b3cb8ac.jpg.html'> Link to comment

jedimasterben
Did you ever get the hardware for the LDD boards? Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Which hardware are you referring to? I have the terminal blocks, which came with the boards and I also ordered 8 24pin IC sockets. Link to comment
jedimasterben
That hardware Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Check and check. I just need to go grab some solder so I can get these things soldered together. I found out you can solder the LDDs right to the board and almost did that but then the IC sockets are so cheap and god forbid one of the drivers went bad or I wanted to change it, so it make sense to solder it right to the board, and I can't honestly imagine why they'd recommend or show it done that way.
