Scape looks good except I think it would look almost perfect if you took out the three rocks just right of the center. The left side looks excellent and the rock on the far right looks nice.

They might have eaten them, peppermint shrimps are kinda iffy.

I doubt the peppermint shrimp ate them. Is the purple mat still there? If so, then they weren't eaten, they're just not open. The peppermint shrimp probably keep walking on them and closing them up.

yeah the purple base is still there. just weird how they dont want to be open now. oh well. here are a few new pics

hmm mirage you got me thinking now. i really dont like the scape on the right side at all. the two white rocks i do want to get rid of.. maybe get rid of those two, possibly the purple rock and then slide the three on the left over a couple inches away from the wall.. hmmmm

oh yeah.. i fianly found a red led flashlight so now im gonna be up all night looking for critters in the tank =]

if you cant tell by now i like taking random pictures of my tank :D btw thanks mirage for the little aquascape tip. i removed those rocks and i really like it now. tank looks much brighter and not so cluttered

i dont know what to do with these things. i made an id thread on here and some people said they could be ricordea but when i show people at the lfs they say mojano or a type of aptasia. should i let them grow and see what they are or go to war?

oh other question... on a branching frogspawn how many tips are usually on each branch? most pictures i see dont have as many as mine. on some branches i count 12 tips or more

Link to comment

My tank must not be interesting enough for yall haha. Im gonna swing by the lfs within the next couple of days and hopefully grab some more zoas and a couple mushrooms. Last time i was in there he told me he was going to frag out most of the lps he had so gonna go see what deals i can get.

Haha. Nice. The algae looks like it is thinning out some. As far as the little hitchhikers go: Do they move?.. like toward the light? They do seem like mojanos to me but then again.. I dunno they are kind of odd. I'm sure there are several species though. I had mojanos and when I would shade them in some way they would always find a way to move toward the light. Nems do that. They are really pretty in actinic lighting some people keep em in pest tanks and such. I killed mine with joes juice.

Not really sure how many tips are supposed to be on frogs..There are differant kinds of variations of things in the Euphyllia family though. Check out E. Yaeyamaenesis they seem really interesting. I think yours looks like mine which I think is E. Divisa.. but I might be wrong.

Link to comment

That is the strange part they dont stretch for light or move. If you poke them they dont move. Only time i see them do anything is at night they disappear. I might just take the chance and squirt them with aptasia/mojano killer. If they arnt mojano then it shouldnt do any harm right? Hmmm.... that frog in the link is very interesting looking. Mine is nothing like that. Mine almost looks like an octopus arm with the tips on the sides. Ill try to get a good picture with my phone when i get home. Hopefully it will still be awake.

i really need to save up my money for a nice camera lol. zoom the camera on my phone just once and everything is blurry. oh well. here is a close up on the branches of the frog

Yea I just like that frogspawn and if I ever get another one it will be that species.. LOL its not yours tho I think yours is Euphyllia divisa, sold as "octopus frogspawn". They really do look like freakin octopi tentacles. He looks nice and happy too!

Those hitchhikers kind of look like pink rhodactis mushrooms or ricordeas... or mojanos.. Hah thats vague isn't it! They seem kinda nem like in some pics and shroom like in others. I'm not really sure though. LOL Maybe someone else will chime in.. but if they decided rics in the ID forum they are probably better at IDing than I ever am. I wouldnt shoot them at all just yet until you know. If they move and don't leave a foot (shrooms generally leave a piece of themselves behind when they move and they move sloooooww) then shoot away LOL.

I suggest putting something over them. If you can: Totally shade them with a rock in your tank for 3 days. If they move around it, or even on it.. then they are probably mojanos (or another nem). If not then they are probably shrooms or something. Shrooms might maybe move a tiny tiny bit or detach but not REALLY move, not in 3 days, and not quite like mojanos. Mojanos want light like nobody's business and will eventually find it. Just make a mental note or use this pic even to remember where they were to begin with.

Just my advice though. Hope they are rics!

I really like your scape layout. I've got a 20L (that I forgot about), it's collecting dust and I'm slowly getting around to getting the equipment now.

Thanks for the info super catpig! Haha your name is awesome. I guess now i need to find out how to make some shade where they are at. Im hoping they are ricordea too! That means i have less to buy for my garden haha.

well just got home and looks like everything already went to bed so no new pics. yall will have to wait until tomorrow. that is if anyone is paying attention to my thread lol. im kinda just talking to myself here.

so the cyano is starting to take over again. after i put the new hermits in it looked like it was starting to go away some but i think it was just from the hermits stirring up the sand some. lately the hermits have been hanging out on the rocks and the cyano is getting thicker on the sand. i just used my tongs to pick out the thicker and stringy parts but i need to get rid of this. maybe im leaving my lights on for too long or something.

no big updates but picked up some mysis shrimp to give that a try. i also think those pesky hermit crabs are messing with my corals. i noticed one of my ricordeas is not where i glued it and this morning one of them knocked down one of my zoa frags that i glued on a rock. guess i need to use more super glue next time.

Link to comment

dont know if anyone is following this thread or not because of lack of replies but i just glued down the frags. dont know if its where they will stay or not but we will see. pics!

not sure if i want the duncans there or in the sand by the same spot. also you will notice the gsp down in the corner. they havnt opened in a few days and the guy at the lfs told me to put them back down on the bottom in a low flow area. a couple of them are starting to come back out now.

everything loved the mysis. especially the duncans. only problems i had were the dang peppermints trying to steal food and having alot of food left over that i didnt use. im gonna have to portion up these little cubes.

I like the zoas in the first pics they look really neat. and the Duncan and rics look really happy. GSP can be weird sometimes. I have seen them close for weeks at a time. They are very very hardy but when they close they tend to stay closed for longer periods than most other coral I have had. HAHA I hate pepermints. If they bother you during feeding try to feed them at the exact same time in a different spot.

I am curious if another small powerhead on the right side would help with the cyano. I'm not sure how much flow you should have with that tank though. I'm sure someone else might be able to advise to or not to.. but in my mind the right side could use a koralia 425 or something similiar and that might help with cyano as well if it is getting out of hand.

Without a skimmer I would look to a refugium for nutrient export perhaps a hang on the back or an aquaclear 70/110 converted. Chaeto macro algae is your best and safest friend when it comes to nutrient export :)

+1 I missed this post before but great advice. If you dont have the funds for a refugium that aquaclear 70 or 100 conversion looks like a good option instead of that HOB filter.

as well for sale on his site.

Perfect, that is exactly how i envisioned the scape with those rocks gone, nice work :) Hows the GSP did it ever pop up again? Is it just the purple mat or can you see the bumps where the polyps can come out?
