Boneshaker
Is it wrong that I now have a 7 spot clear magnetic frag rack in my Spec V...??? Link to comment
Boneshaker
Ok... after a little thread reading, I'm thinking about chaeto in the return chamber... I must research a little more over the weekend. I still have the big sponge media rack in my Spec V, and I'm seeing a few mentions of it possibly becoming a big nitrate trap eventually. So fuge... Chaeto, rubble rock & a light for the chaeto...??? Anyone else doing this in a Spec V...??? Link to comment
lljdma06
I did this on a Spec 2, though no rubble rock. It works well, you'll like it. Link to comment

1reefluvr2
You are Almost as bad as Jaquie having 7 tanks . Even tho Jaquie has 12 little nanos (2 of them being specs) . I wish I had my nightstand tanks going. Link to comment
Boneshaker
Removed a big bristle worm this morning. Ugly thing had to be about 4" long. Biggest one I've seen between my two Specs. Link to comment
Boneshaker
Bad news: my Black Clown Goby has ich. It's got some flaking going on. I found the flaking this morning when the lights came on. Goby has been in my Spec V for 3 weeks now. Hopefully I caught it early enough and it doesn't spread to my 2 Clownfish. I'm setting up a Hospital tank in an Aqueon Evolve2, that I got on sale today for $35.00 (plus buying a heater & the Seachem Ammonia Alert tag). I'm also treating my Spec V with Kordon Ich Attack which is supposed to be 100% reef safe. I've never had a quarantine tank before, so this is new to me. My Hospital set up: Aqueon Evolve2 Aqueon 98 GPH pump Aqueon LED light Marina 10W heater Seachem Ammonia Alert suction cup tag PVC fittings for hiding / shelter Fliter Floss A bag of Seachem Matrix rocks Fluval Thermometer I've taken about 3/4 of a gallon of saltwater from my Spec V to help seed the tank, along with adding 1 1/4 gallons new saltwater. Any Tips GREATLY Appreciated. Thank You in Advance. Nice flow in this little Aqueon Evolve2 tank with the 98 GPH pump. It is noisier than any of my Fluvals though. Hopefully it will quiet down after being up for a while. Link to comment
Boneshaker
My little Black Clown Goby with it's faking skin. Poor little guy. Aqueon Evolve2 Hospital tank. Any Hospital / Quarantine tips greatly appreciated. Link to comment
x3thelast
take the rocks out. replace it with pvc, you dont want the medicine to get into the pores of the rocks and contaminate what ever you decided to medicate next. once youre done with treatment break it down and clean everything, no need to keep hospital tanks running when not in use. good luck hope it pulls thru Link to comment

It's also nice to know I don't have to keep this up and running all the time. I'll have to hunt up some PVC. Pretty sure I have some pieces in the basement somewhere. The only medication I have currently is reef safe, so hopefully the rocks will be OK overnight. Thanks ! Link to comment
Boneshaker
The rocks in the Hospital tank have been replaced with some PVC fittings. Link to comment
Boneshaker
It's hard to see it, but Goby seems to be doing better. Not near as flakey looking as it was a few days ago. Time will tell. Link to comment
Boneshaker
Goby was looking better, but Monday night / Tuesday morning it passed on. RIP Black Clown Goby 04-15-13 Link to comment

Boneshaker
Let There Be Flow ! Alright, after upgrading the pump in my 2 gallon Spec to a Mini-Jet 606, I've purchased another for my Spec V. Link to comment
Boneshaker
Got my Mini-Jet 606 for this tank a couple days ago. Now to make the time to put it in. Link to comment
tsunamee
Once you get that thing running..... Mind posting and temp changes? I too was thinking about replacing the stock pump. Link to comment
GGFAB
Did you ever get around to converting your overflow into a chaeto/rubble reservoir that you were talking about? If so can you post pics? Was thinking of doing the same in mine. Thanks Link to comment
Boneshaker
Once you get that thing running..... Mind posting and temp changes? I too was thinking about replacing the stock pump. Changed out the Ehiem Compact 300 to the Mini-Jet 606 today. Temp before the change was about 78 degrees. After the Mini-Jet running for a bit, the temp creeped up to about 80, so I turned down my Hydor Theo to 78 degrees from 79 degrees. More watching to be done... Did you ever get around to converting your overflow into a chaeto/rubble reservoir that you were talking about? If so can you post pics? Was thinking of doing the same in mine. Thanks No changes... Still have the stock sponge in the back with Seachem Matrix rocks and Seachem Purigen. Link to comment
Boneshaker
FTS : 7-02-13 All lights on... Only the Ecoxotic Blue/Magenta stunner on... Rastas under the Blue/Magenta stunner... (bought these with 2 polyps and now there are 5) 24Ks under the Blue/Magenta stunner... (bought these with 4 polyps, now there are 7) Added a colony of Orange Bam Bams today... Just starting to open up. I think there was 7 poylps on this frag... and some hair algae for the hermits to munch on. Also added a Halloween Hermit crab. It's being welcomed by a pair of Blue Legged hermits cleaning the outside of his shell... Thought this was a neat pic of one of my Green Star Polyps rocks all closed up. Link to comment
Boneshaker
Better pic of the Orange Bam Bams... Halloween Hermit peeking out... Link to comment
Boneshaker
Ordered some Loc-Line fittings and nozzles today. Hoping to get increase water movement by the base of the false wall. Also might buy ANOTHER Mini-Jet 606 and swap out the stock pump that is currently under the Fluval foam block. That would take my flow from 233 GPH to 306ish GPH. (Currently running the stock Fluval @ 83GPH and a Mini-Jet 606 at 153 GPH) If I add a second Mini-Jet to this tank, I will also have to build a custom media rack to fit over the 606. Link to comment
