TheWAND
Foggy night in SoCal. Tried to get light beams, but failed, so I worked on some manual focus technique in the dark. http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8419529162/'>http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8419529162/'>Through the Fog by http://www.flickr.com/people/75945528@N08/'>aboubakarephoto, on Flickr 1 Link to comment

TheWAND
that was taken in the dark? whoa Yes. It was only lit with a single street light. I've been using a cheapo tripod with a quality ball head for longer exposures. Going to be using this setup until I decide to splurge on a RRS tripod. The moon was out tonight, with tons of cloud cover. Light pollution in my area is terrible. http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8423233430/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8423233430/'>Light Pollution by http://www.flickr.com/people/75945528@N08/'>aboubakarephoto, on Flickr Link to comment

TheWAND
Nice dendro. Is it yours? The moon was still out in force tonight. Withers
yeah it's mine, technically it's a Ranitomeya but I'll give you a pass since they're constantly changing the scientific names Did you take that moon shot with a Canon 100-400? It's so clear! Link to comment
TheWAND
That was with the 400mm 2.8 L, the one in this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8381849103/'>http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8381849103/'>Balance by http://www.flickr.com/people/75945528@N08/'>aboubakarephoto, on Flickr It was the first 400mm supertele that canon made for EF mount. TheWAND
Get the 2x EF teleconverter. I want to get one so bad, just for lunar shots. I would if I could justify spending $430 on something I would only use at most once a month. If I could figure out a way to go birding more often, I probably will end up biting the bullet on one. TheWAND
Some background on this one. This is a rather infamous stretch of road in my city where there have been several fatal car crashes, and many non-fatal crashes. Most recently, there was an accident involving two horses that escaped from their run. Both were hit by a truck and both died. This is my yard. I live in a dangerous place... TheWAND
Trying to do astro-photography where I live is so frustrating where I live thanks to the city lights being so near. I guess that's why I keep trying it. I need to take a weekend and go camping somewhere darker to get the shots I really want. For this one, since it seemed all my attempts where going to end in failure, and my patience was lacking, I panned to give a shooting star effect. http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8431097283/'>http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8431097283/'>Falling Skies by http://www.flickr.com/people/75945528@N08/'>aboubakarephoto, on Flickr Link to comment
Withers
that's crazy, you could get that effect just by panning? You must have a steady hand January 31st, 2013 decided to choose a hopeless case and see how much I could salvage it. I couldn't recover all the highlights but still, not bad. original Link to comment
TheWAND
That just looks great considering the condition it was in originally. I'm going to keep using this moonlight as long as the moon's putting out light for me. Tonight was a mix of messing with strobes and the ambient. I thought the ambient lighting looked better. I would've tried more things with the speedlights, but it's such a hassle changing things around in the dark without an assistant. This is me standing as still as I could for 1.6 seconds. http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8435226236/'>http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8435226236/'>Moonlit by http://www.flickr.com/people/75945528@N08/'>aboubakarephoto, on Flickr Link to comment
TheWAND
Forgot to respond to your comment on the panning. It's not a steady hand, it's having a decent tripod head. All I did was set the camera on timer release with mirror lockup. All you have to do is unlock the pan knob on the ballhead, and once the shutter releases, you pan by pulling on one of the knobs on the ballhead. Link to comment

TheWAND
Pretty awesome set there. Where were these taken? Been pretty beaten up with the flu. Bundled up hardcore to combat the fever even though the nights are 55 degrees here in California to take this picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8446280691/'>http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8446280691/'>Foggy Nights by http://www.flickr.com/people/75945528@N08/'>aboubakarephoto, on Flickr Link to comment
Withers
They're all from our trip to the Tetons / Yellowstone last year. I like editing landscapes the most but unfortunately the only trip I have RAW images from is the one from last year. I need to travel more often. It might be time to start taking some shots indoors Link to comment
TheWAND
This one took a while. It's a 9 shot panorama, made difficult by me only having two strobes available. There was lots of trekking back and forth to get the strobes in place for the next shots. http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8449235291/'>http://www.flickr.com/photos/75945528@N08/8449235291/'>Lights by http://www.flickr.com/people/75945528@N08/'>aboubakarephoto, on Flickr Link to comment
