Well given that these cardinals are being commercially bred in numbers hopefully there will be little or no impact on the hobby.

Indeed Les and the others listed are not really kept by Hobbyists so there seems to be not much of a problem with this and it will more than likely encourage more captive breeding of the Banggai Cardinals

WelI have all but finished my twin LED cradle for my new tank.

I had already made a light surround box housing a 120w Chinese full spectrum LED unit which worked very well on my 2' bespoke cube reef tank. However I wanted to fit 2 units on my new tank an Aquareef 300. One of the light being my existing unit the other a brand new one which I duly bought off eBay for £75 delivered from within the UK which I consider something of a bargain. The Aquareef 300 is 120cm long but due to glass side strengthening bars being 10cm and as each LED unit is 40cm long 2 would fit in quite snugly and illuminate the whole tank with no dark spots.

My idea was to mount the LED's low to the waters surface and within the tank top trim surround to eliminate light spillage and keep the tank looking nice and neat. I don;t much care for light pollution which you get from many lights suspended from the ceiling for instance.

My LED units are the manual type with simple on/off/dimming rotary controls on 2 channels which is all you really need IMO and it keeps the price down as a similar unit with full programming control would add around another £100 to the price. I use simple plug in timers to control the on/off times of my LED units. Ramping etc are all very nice but IMO and that of others is a want not a need. Corals don't care if they get light full on or in a sun rise/sunset set way and they gain nothing buy ramping of the light. I do have cheap blue LED's which come on and go off before and after my main lights so as not to shock my fish.

Anyway I digress so back on track. I wanted to have easy access to the tank so a cradle with bogies/casters which will allow me to easily push the lights back and forth while on the tank. I had employed such a system on my 2' cube with great success so wanted to make something similar but this time not utilising a light surround box as with my cube tank and in doing so keeping the lights almost out of sight when view the tank from a slightly low position. The only light that would escape would be from the tank itself and that which is reflected from the waters surface into the ceiling immediately above the tank which I actually find quite nice. No blinding light escaping from the tank here this is going to be much more stealth.

My 2 x 120 Full spectrum Chinese LED units mounted side by side in the cradle made from aluminium angle, aluminium bar and on the tank which is still dry and may well remain so till after Christmas.

Taken from an elevated angle.

Well you sure have a nice lighting set up now Les and I agree some of all of those controls are really options that may not really be needed for everyone or not at all in fact

Looking forward to seeing pics of the new set up once you have it running and have taken some pics

If a species is listed as 'endangered', then it becomes illegal to collect, import, trade, or possess that species.

Yes that is the goal I believe as well Jedi ... but implementation is not clarified and whether captive breeding will be part of the bill is also not all that clear ... and hopefully that will not be the case

Yes I am aware the bill could be all encompassing but there could be amendments as Albert say as to whether there will be who knows.

Indeed Les ... legislation and proposed legislation has come and gone and some has been enacted and some needs a lot of clarification to be clearly understood so I guess that for now we are still a little in the "dark" so to speak as to the exact restrictions that are or will be imposed or are in effect already

But time will tell I guess ..

Now this is different and I like it, not sure about the footprint though.

A very interesting way to use them for sure .... Is this a UK device ?

Right you are Albert and they make a number of marine aquaria items. They are new to me.
