This is why I copied your idea with the shower pan liner. Now I need to get me some of that #16.

This is the 4th time it's saved my floors. First time the seal on the pump leaked, 2nd time the ATO line came out the sump and pumped 5 gallons in the stand, 3rd time the feed mode cancelled by itself and turned the skimmer back on without the cup attached, not really sure what it is this time, though it is skimmer related.

Whatcha need the weld on for?

I have patched a few amateur connections with silicone but the weldon would have worked a lot better to permanently affix some of my flexible hosing to PVC pieces, if I understand how it works.

I think regular pvc glue works for that, but if it's already snug and not leaking, just use hose clamps to ensure it doesn't come off.

Clamps on, silicone worked to fix a minor drip, but I still don't trust it. PVC glue did not work on the plastic of the flexible hose, so I was hoping Weldon would.

Well for $6.99 can't hurt to try. I thought the flexible hosing was pretty similar to the spa flex which works with pvc glue. I still wonder why superglue doesn't work on much of anything but your fingers..

what shower pan liner?

You can see it here. Lined the whole inside bottom of the stand. Can hold about 5" of water without flooding the floor. I might have some equipment damage, but a couple new pumps is way cheaper than new flooring.

It's a pvc waterproof liner used under the floor of tiled showers.. and reef tanks ;)

No, it's a watertight rubber, like a super think shower curtain. It's designed to put into a space for a shower prior to putting in a cement floor and tiling it. Mine cam in a roll, but similar to this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-60-in-x-72-in-PVC-Shower-Pan-Liner-Kit-41620/100344211

Used as waterproofing membrane in tile shower installations

Everyone needs a membrane.

okay fine. But Mike said it holds 5" of water. I'm really trying to figure out how if it's just a membrane.

I can only say what I did. I bought a roll of it 7.5 feet long and 3 feet wide (I think). You put it in the stand as a single piece and fold it at the ends like wrapping paper so when you're done you have a bathtub like bowl of liner that is leakproof. The cut for my front doors is about 3" from the bottom so I can only hold 3" of water, I think Mike cut his higher, there is a picture of it on RC that gave me the idea.

Here is the post with the picture of my liner.

I didn't think about running it up the back like that.. to prevent the salt creep and inevitable schmutz that gets on the drywall behind the tank... and protect the electronics from splashing. Like when you have to remove your skimmer and that last bit of water in the bottom just shoots right out and onto your power strip. <_<

I guess y'all have a lip inside your cabinets and it makes for a natural tray with the liner added. My cabinet is flat.

we do.. thankfully. You could still line the bottom of yours and just create a bit of a lip with the liner by tackin it up on the sides. It may not hold an inch of water, but can stop minor leaks. Add a leak detector module and you'd be set.

For now I am all set, the sump has a good 8 inches or so of empty space to fill before it overflows. The display will only send down ~3 gallons at most if the return pump fails. The sump can hold much more than that.

It is the reverse I am always worried about. If the siphon fails, the tank can hold about 2 more gallons before it over flows. The next time I clean out the U tube and overflow I'll have to test.

No good news.. :(

My prized maxima died. 3 out of 4 anthias croaked in a week. Just sent the email to LA to get credit. My new derasa doesn't look so hot either.

I'm FREAKING out man! I wonder if it's a bad batch of salt recently.

Link to comment

Well not sure why the clam up and croaked on me.. especially after having it for just over a year. Only things I can think of that happened recently was that I didn't empty out my skimmer cup so prob 2 gallons of nastiness overflowed back into the tank (which shoulda been good for the clams..I think?) and the alk dropped to 6 while I was away on business.. but I had it drop to 4.5 before several months ago and didn't have any issues then. The anthias all croaked in quarantine from internal issues. Just got them last week from LA.

:( The clam croaking after a year is very strange. The skimmate would not have been responsible for this, if anything the added organics would have made the clam happy. I'm sorry for your losses.

Pulled the new clam out last night.. dead. With everything else going right in the tank, i'm just gonna have to assume it's something that came along with the new clam. On a good note, the surviving female lyretail is looking like she'll make it. LA refunded me for the 3 that didn't and I have the next 2 weeks off of work. LOOK OUT! I'll be ordering stuff soon.

I also caught my monster brittle star and sump'd him for now. I'm gettin ready to raise hell on the red bugs.. I've had them for like.. forever, and aside from the tricolors, most of the sps seem uneffected by them. But.. them tricolors are super perty when they're happy so it's time. I'll be around and have plenty of time for water changes if needed.

Need replacement o-rings for my skimmer. SRO3000ext. Where do I get them? I'm going to email coralvue but if they're just generic available at the hardware store, I'd like to get my skimmer back online sooner than later.
