NanoTopia
I have decided to go FULL Zeovit today. I ordered a Cleartides Nano Zeovit Reactor 90 today, the only one that would fit in my sump. It was reasonably priced, cheaper than making one. This reactor was recommended from a fellow reefer who is using this exact reactor with success. I figure it will be a month before I am ready to run it and begin the change over from bio-pellets to Zeovit. The reason I am making the switch is because from the reading I have done, Full Zeovit method is a more balanced biological system than running bio-pellets. As many know I am already supplementing many Zeovit products, once I have the system (reactor) running I will be able to see the full effects of what Zeovit can do. There are not many nano reefs I have come across, there are a couple, and they have been my inspiration to make the switch. I will keep you posted on the progress regarding this method related to a nano reef as things progress. Now I also have a GHL Profilux stand alone 4 pump doser coming my way soon. This will help me keep things stable in the reef and allow me to step away from the reef for greater periods of time. Bit of a luxury item but really helpful overall. Again keep you all posted when things get running Link to comment

You deserve it for your dedication and confident to have a nice healthy SPS tank! Thanks David, things are still recovering in my reef, I took the bio-pellets off line yesterday. Getting ready to go full Zeovit, waiting on the reactor. I think we are all dedicated to our reefs the same, I know you are. I hope to have a new FTS soon, I have been working on my filtration area, cleaning and reorganizing. I scraped the coralline off the back glass today, going for an even cleaner look, lol. Thanks for checking in David Link to comment

Thanks for checking in David I hope your tank recovers soon and that you are back in top shape with the corals .. and those corallines that we all hope for when we start can become somewhat of a bother when we have them everywhere and then need to scrape them off .. I have the same problem and keep telling myself I need to get that razor blade out and do ti but I must be procrastinating as I have not done it yet :-( Link to comment

Too bad Kat. Hey Nantopia, with the multitude of zeovit products out there which ones do u plan to use? Besides the basic 4. What's your plan? Not going to use ZeoFood7, just ZeoBAC, ZeoStart3, ZeoMedia for the basics. I have talked to Thomas Pohl regarding dilution of Start3 (which is basically the carbon source for the bacteria), he recommends diluting the start3 with sterile RODI water, in my case 1:9. This is due to the fact I will be dosing it via doser which is only capable of 1mL minimum dose. I need 0.1mL 2-3 times daily. This way 1mL will = 0.1mL of Start3. Zeovit was never invented for nano tanks, haha. The others are as follows, some are very low doses weekly. All dosed by hand. Flat Worm Stop - 1mL daily Coral Booster - 1mL every other day Coral Vitalizer - 1 drop daily Pohls Xtra - 0.5mL every other day Coral Snow - 2mL twice a week Amino Acids - 1 drop twice a week Sponge power - 1 drop twice a week K-Balance Strong - 1mL once a week or as needed based on potassium test. Looks like a lot but doses are quite small overall. The above is basically what I am dosing now, minus the media and start3. Link to comment

I'll have to check and see whether I can find it again. Would make a good starter seed for a friend of mine who has a hard time getting them to grow. Link to comment
Tinola
I really like your tank! It seems like having an ULNS is highly beneficial to the SPS. I'm thinking of doing this to my 10 gallon as I'm going to start keeping more sps but don't really know which way to go(biopellets, zeovit, prodibio, etc.). Any tips you have? Link to comment

Thanks Tinola, For a 10 gallon tank you have to be very careful. I run bio-pellets on my 3 gallon pico but I would not recommend this in general. You could try liquid carbon dosing and some bacteria. I would be extremely cautions with this however, you need to start with 10% or less of the recommended dosage and slowly ramp up over a month. You would be working in "drops" for measurement, maybe one drop of liquid carbon (once a day) to start and two drops of bacteria (once a week). If you drop nutrients (PO4/NO3) too quickly, you risk bleaching your corals. The drop in nutrients needs to be slow and very controlled. You need to test both PO4 and NO3 as you go, with quality accurate test kits . You may want to look at Brightwell's Reeffuel and Microbactor7 products as they are effective and reasonably priced. I would also read more about liquid carbon dosing in general. Hope this helps a little. Link to comment

I think that my tank has low phosphate because I never had a problem with algae ever(very mild diatom bloom post cycle) and my chaeto hasn't grown much at all and I run GFO and carbon.. I think I'm gonna try out biopellets plus the zeovit nano pack. I've already created a schedule for the zeovit Monday: * 1 drop Coral Vitalizer Tuesday: * 1 drop Sponge Power Wednesday: * 6 drops (0.3ml) Xtra Thursday: * 6 drops (0.3ml) AA LPS Friday: * 1 drop Sponge Power Saturday: * 6 drops (0.3ml) Xtra Sunday: * Water Change * 6 drops (0.3ml) AA LPS Link to comment

Just a note on Sponge power, this product will grow sponge in your tank and filtration system, not a bad thing, just something to expect. Also, SP is good for tissue repair and STN events, I would maybe start with one drop a week to start. Keep in mind KZ products dosing were designed for full zeovit tanks that keep primarily SPS corals. Running a hybrid filtration system changes things up quite a bit. You will not see the full effects of zeovit without KZ zeolith media in a specified reactor and going full zeo. This said, many people, including me, use KZ products on their non-zeovit reefs with benefits. You should start with low doses and see how things go. With Biopellets you run the risk of starving your tank. I would start with 50% the recommended pellets to start and monitor/test frequently. You don't have the option of turning the pellets off if nutrients get too low (they will stick together), so you would need to feed more to keep some trace nutrients in the tank, IMO very important. NanoTopia
Went FULL ZEOVIT yesterday There are not many options for nano tank Zeovit enthusiasts so I got a little creative (again). I purchased a Cleartides Reactor 90 and made some modifications to suit my needs. I drilled more holes in the bottom plate for better flow. I plumbed the reactor and added a ball valve and Eheim 300 pump. This pump is big enough to achieve 20 gallons per hour through the reactor, maybe more. This is all I need since I will be using 200mL Zeovit Media for my 20 gallon tank. The reactor will sit in the 10 gallon sump, without an inch to spare Stock Dimensions (mm): Height: 400 Column Diameter: 90 Footprint: 130 x 130 (The modification added a little bit to the footprint) This is the stock reactor pictured in the Cleartides web site: This is the plumbing done with Ehiem 300 pump (a larger pump could be used): Link to comment

albertthiel
Went FULL ZEOVIT yesterday Is what you adding the Zeolites? Is there any description of what Zeolites they are using as there are well over 200 natural ones + a whole lot of man made ones ... just wondering Link to comment
Bello
Finally an update! Sweet diy! A minor detail..... I can't see from your design, but my Vertex Reactor has a check valve, that prevents the lowering of the water height within the reactor, should the pump stop/shut-off for any reason. The importance of this, is so that the zeolites are not exposed to air should you encounter the above situation. I'm guessing you could prevent said scenario by closing the ball valve, but then you'd have to retune the flowrate through the reactor. That said, do you have space for any further mods? Bello, the reactor will sit in the sump, so no check valve needed, the water level never changes in the chamber it sits in. If power goes off, the zeolites are always in water. ---------------------------------------------------------- 15 Litre ATO Reservoir Link to comment
