I began liking saltwater clams as soon as I got into the hobby. Once I started seeing the colors they can be I knew I wanted one. I originally had a maxima, but it died since it was very small. I got my deresa later on and it is thriving as my above picture can show. Once I get my 75 gallon set up and mature, I'll probably try another maxima, or maybe a crocea. Link to comment
GHill762
please excuse the crappy pic.. I'll get a top down one sometime, it's a metallic orange-gold color from top down.. Link to comment

WHen boys become men, they fall in love with CLAMS .Short clams, tall clams.....skinny clams, chunky clams. And the hardest clams to keep are the ones you crave the most. And no matter how gorgeous your clam is, one night out on the town and another will catch your eye.. Its Gods little tease. OMGSIIK
A couple under sunlight only. Left one is a PEA WYSIWYG and the other an "our pick." Smaller one is an aquacultured PEA maxima. Link to comment

I want to do a tank under sunlight. Would be pretty awesome! Do you have a build thread for your tank? Link to comment
OMGSIIK
Jedi, I do not have a build thread. I should say that this pic was taken in the morning. I do not run a completely sunlit reef, though I would love to someday. Believe it or not, I have these 6" under an 36" aquatraders fixture with ATI bulbs (2 blue +, 1 purple plus, and an aquablue special) and an LED strip. I have just recently within the past month relocated the tank next to a window (with blinds) so I can control how much sunlight it gets. I do not have nuissance algae problems so far, but I have clams in the tank that I've had for over a year. The maxima on the left and the aquacultured one I obtained in early Feb. and the larger one on the right is going about a month now. To answer Zeph (from the clam cave thread) I have a small refugium with liverock and chaeto and an in sump protein skimmer. I test reef foundations every other day and then supplement manually as needed. It's been such a basic system but I am maticulous with water changes. Once a week I would replace 5G in the 40B. I feed interchangeably every other day a mix of frozen baby brine, cyclops, oyster eggs, chopped krill, regular brine, ROE, Kents zoomax and chromamax. I really have no explanation as to why some clams make it easily while others do not. Some systems are complex and others not, etc. All I know is whatever I'm doing I'm afraid to change and that's why the switch to LEDs is a little frightening knowing T5s are working. Link to comment

I was trying not to but the bulbs lasting only about 6mos is not cost effective. I'm hoping its not so much the lighting that I'm having luck with these guys. Maybe it's all the sh*t I put in it haha. Link to comment
