oceancube
Well guys good thing i didnt move my egg eating male bc i looked tonight and its a nest the size of the one you guys show. Its their 6th lay and the biggest thing i noticed was how tightly pacjed the eggs were. They wernt spread out at all and the male was fanning them not eating them. One question tho. I can buy rottis at a lfs but dont have my phyto culture going. I do however have some phyto feast for corals. Can i feed rots that? actually i tried feeding phyto feast at one point as an emergency feeding and i had no luck, your better off feeding home grown nano, or order some from ebay as a emergency backup , there like $5.00 bucks a liter ... yeah usually takes time for a male to stop eating eggs, sometimes it takes so long that people giveup,,, im waiting for my ww's to fertalize eggs correctly..patients is the key.... Pickle010
Chicago - I think you'd have a hard time finding rots at a LFS - I'd try a local club or even MOFIB and see if anyone close to you is cultivating them. Quote Link to comment
Chicagoclowns
Haha no a lfs has tons lol. Its 2.50 a bag. I bought some while back when a friend gave me eggs but i didnt get enough and they only lasted 4 days Quote Link to comment
crooks
I think there is one or two LFS around here that do sell rots. I always just ask another local breeder and havent ever payed for them. If you are going to raise clowns you might as well try to keep rots and just put in a Reed order for nanno or rotigrow. I am running low or I would let you get one of my bottles. Chicagoclowns
Well usually i culture phytoplankton but my males been eating the entire nest on day two. Its now day 3 and the nest is still large. They are pickin off white eggs that prob wernt fertalized but only a few. Is it normal for the female to pick at the eggs too? Quote Link to comment
Pickle010
I've seen my females fan and mouth the eggs. Quote Link to comment
Chicagoclowns
well the eggs are getting white so im going to assume unfertilized bc both are mouthing and fanning like crazy lol but they are sparatically all turning white Quote Link to comment
kenneking
This may be a stupid question but can a grow out tank and breeder be attached to the same sump or is that a no no? Quote Link to comment
Pickle010
This may be a stupid question but can a grow out tank and breeder be attached to the same sump or is that a no no? It's been done... but it isn't preferred. Simply because of trying to maintain water quality and the conditions that that the brood stock pairs are kept in. If you think about it, it's hard enough to keep up the water quality with brood stock and all the feedings then you go and add all the fry to the same system? I personally wouldn't do it. kenneking
so if I wanted to only breed one pair or maybe 2 should I have actually 2 sumps one for the breeder and one for the grow out? and how many gallons over all should i have for the breeder tank and how many for the grow out Quote Link to comment
rrcg50
so if I wanted to only breed one pair or maybe 2 should I have actually 2 sumps one for the breeder and one for the grow out?and how many gallons over all should i have for the breeder tank and how many for the grow out breeder tank can be as small as 15g total grow out depends on how much you want to produce but i would say 3 20g longs and a 40b sump for 100g of volume, a great skimmer and descent pump with filter socks and you will be good to go Quote Link to comment

Eileen
So while I'm doing water tests and what-not I thought I'd start looking for a mated pair of snowflakes. I know Eileen had mentioned maybe selling some. So Eileen, or anyone else… know where I can get a pair? I'm on the East coast of Florida. Thanks, Bryan Hi Bryan! I do have two mature bonded pairs that I'm looking to sell just because I'm out of room! Both have an orange ocellaris female with an extreme snowflake male. One of the females is a proven female from C-Quest, the other was from the LFS - not sure of origin. Both male snowflakes are from my stock. My original snowflake male is from Sustainable Aquatics. Females are several years old and males are about 1 year old. Just PM me if you're interested or want to see pictures! Quote Link to comment

Eileen
Petco gets their fish from ORA. I've been to ORA's packing facility over on the east coast of FL and have seen the holding tanks with fish marked for Petco and they're nice and healthy at that point. Quote Link to comment

I wonder what a breeder looks for in platinums. Thank you for your time. Quote Link to comment

Where'd you get them, why did you choose them? I wonder what a breeder looks for in platinums. Thank you for your time. LOL forget the Starbucks for her - we had a hard enough time throttling her back and having her share the ball. You know... picking out those Platinums was not an easy choice. I went down for a frag swap and had no intention of buying anything at the LFS that was hosting it. But the owner is a great guy and I did take some time cruising his store. I have to admit I locked onto these two when I saw them. Obviously the amount of white jumped out first but I watched them for a good 30 minutes at least. Once I got over the amount of white I just watched to see if they looked healthy - how they interacted together and I had the store owner feed them. The store had them for a while - we live in a small town and there isn't much of a market for them out here. So I told him I'd trade him some semi's and get his cost basis down on the plats - he could move a couple of pairs of semi's much easier then a single pair of platinums and he agreed. He bagged them and sent them home with me that day. I drove down the next day and gave him a few extra snows then I should have... he knew he was getting a good deal and told me so. I told him not worry that I had an ulterior motive and that I would make him even the score later when I needed the help. Anyhow, they are still a little timid and hanging out in the back of the pot whenever I pull out the camera - but they come out to eat and are settling in pretty well. This is the best shot I've got so far: Quote Link to comment
