Was that last Azoox the one that recently appeared on DD? Looks like it, same genus?

Same species but was not the piece that was on DD. It was picked up at Greenwich Aquaria.

This is piece of Botrylloides sp. colonial tunicate I picked up on December 16th from Greenwich Aquaria. Picture below was taken on January 3, 2011. The piece started out the size of my thumb nail.

What is interesting is that it goes through a cycle called blastogenesis. What happens is that the zooids reach maturity, they asexually reproduce buds, the colony of zooids then dies, and simultaneously the buds develop into the next generation of zooids. This process continues to repeat itself as the colony grows.

Here is a series of photos I took when the colony was younger

So every 4 days this occurs as the colony continues to grow.

Thanks :)

Try to add a photo of my other colonial tunicate I have either later this evening or tomorrow. It is close to fist size and it's blastogenesis cycle is a few hour off of the other tunicate, every four days.
