PoopCola
try to add a few hermits, they are good at eating scraps n crap. and try to get a variety of snails, i added my CUC seriously 3-5 days after i setup the tank. i never hit a diatom bloom tho which was weird, all my LR was beyond cured and my tank is super stable at about 3-4 months now. good progress buddy check out my 10gal build in my sig if u get a chance I have a rather large and varied CUC planned Im just waiting until after January 1st because thats when Sealife Inc opens again I do have one hermit right now, but he is tiny Thanks for the complement your tank looks great now Link to comment

Militant Jurist
That's very weird about the Pep shrimp. That's got me curious... Link to comment

lakshwadeep
It will be hard for me to identify a hermit from its shell , so I suggest you look at this link for reference: http://www.recif.be/article/hermit.htm Link to comment
PoopCola
haha sorry I was referring more to the coraline/ sponge picture and I was wondering if you had any idea what happened to the shrimp? great link too! Link to comment
pismo_reefer
your pep shrimp molted funny cuz ur iodine levels are prolly too low....and having two clowns in a 7g (essentially) is just mean imo (jmo)... is that cyano i see....hmm...watch how much you feed (i lerned that the hard way) Link to comment
wannenmacher
looks good and i hope your shrimp is ok Link to comment
PoopCola
The clowns should be okay after all in the wild they only stray about a meter from their host nem besides If they get to crowded I could always take one back Oh and why would the Iodine be low? I do 10% water changes weekly I thought this should replenish all the trace elements used up Is there something Im missing? looks good and i hope your shrimp is ok Thanks man! I hope so too, he is still eating also what pic has the cyano in it (if not all of them ) Link to comment
lakshwadeep
+1 for proper iodine levels when crustaceans are molting. A good way to know if something is coralline is to try scraping it with your finger. Sponges will be "spongy". Link to comment

PoopCola
I need help with coral placement I plan on adding a torch coral eventually, originally I was going to put it on the "shelf" i made in the top right corner of the tank then I read that they need moderate lighting but the shelf gets a full blast of t5 lighting where should I put it? also I plan on adding GSP-on the little piece of rubble on the sand bed Xenia-on a rubble superglued to the upper left side of the tank Ass loads of Ricordia-? towards the bottom left? Zoanthids-? the whole right side? stuff for later( 5 months from now..maybe) sps- clam- any input really appreciated Link to comment
smirkis
all that pinkish reddish with bubbles is all cyano, try to syphon that crap out during water changes. that stuff gets ugly and spreads fast. what kind of water are you using? i noticed all that stuff when i was mixing my own salt with tap water + declorifier and i switched to ro/di asap n never seen it since. khinsanmu1
congrats! say, can you snap or share some more pix of how you built that back wall? nice set up.creative Link to comment

smirkis
yah, i had a feeling you were. try to find a nice local drinking water despenser near vons or something. my local spot does 8 stage RO and thats all i use, 25cents a gal. way to many bad nutrients, stuff like cyano and green grass algae thrives off that stuff Link to comment
PoopCola
yep I have both ("green grass" and cyano) but my two turbos are keeping it under control for the time being... but I will switch to RO as soon as I get my pay check Link to comment
smedge
What would cause my Iodine levels to be low? Iodine gets used up pretty quickly in a closed system, even quicker with skimmng. Crustaceans use iodine to harden their shells after molting so this really is a likely culprit. Link to comment
PoopCola
what should I do to promote proper molting? My shrimp molted fine multiple times on my 5.5 without issues... however, there was no skimmer on it Is there anythin I can do? Link to comment
schaferfred
How are things going?? Did you start using RO water? I use nothing but distilled and everything has been great. Link to comment
edge121212
any issues from the display area being so thin (less then 7 inches) any regrets do you like the back false wall better then a side false wall? nice tank BTW Link to comment
PoopCola
How are things going?? Did you start using RO water? I use nothing but distilled and everything has been great. RO unit is on the way! and Your tank looks great already too! any issues from the display area being so thin (less then 7 inches) any regrets do you like the back false wall better then a side false wall? nice tank BTW hmm... I do like the look of it but the 7 inch display does have some issues It is difficult to get my hands in there we'll see how glueing frags goes on friday... I do like the back false wall more, but purely for aesthetic reasons I view the tank primarily from the front rather than all three sides like lalani's tank No regrets as of yet.... and THANKS!
