glennr1978
Since the thread for my 40 breeder is getting ridiculously long and hard to find info in, I've decided to start a condensed version of it. My tank started as an upgrade from a basic AP24, and has since evolved into a full blown (mostly) SPS reef. As of today it consists of over 30 different frags / colonies of SPS, probably 15 varieties of soft corals, and a WHOPPING one LPS. I'm not going to list all of the corals because I would surely forget some. I also have two clams, one crocea, one derasa. I have a total of 12 fish in my tank (yes, 12 fish including a yellow tang....call PETA!!). -1 3" yellow tang -2 true percs (not a mated pair, but they tend to get along most of the time) -11 green chromis (recently added, we'll see how this experiment turns out) -11 is now 7 as of 8/16. I guess the "experiment hasn't been a complete failure.....yet. -7 is now 6 (has been for a while now) -1 purple firefish -1 Mccoskers flasher wrasse (divers den) -1 4" yellow coris wrasse (hopefully he will be the monti-eating nudi eliminator!!) My CUC -a few turbos -a bunch of nerites -a bunch of ceriths -2 sand sifting starfish -some hermits -yellow tang The current equipment list runs as follows. -AGA 40 breeder -Petco stand -DIY canopy -AGA20L sump / refugium -Reef Octopus NW 150 -250w mh fired by an ARO electronic ballast w/ an Aqualine AB 10k lamp -2x's NOVA 24w T5's (geisemann actinic+) -2x's $5 Walmart fans for cooling (they work great) -Vortech MP20 -QO2200 used as return pump from sump split into spray bars behind the rockwork -2x's Stealth 5w heaters (I think they're 75w...) -auto top off "basic" from topoff.com -phosban reactor running ROX activated carbon and GFO I'm pretty sure that covers all of the equipment.....oh wait, no it doesn't. -The whole system is controlled by an Acjr w/ temp probe, ph probe, and DC8 -All water for wc's and top offs come from a "Water General" 6 stage RO/DI. My maintenance / dosing routine looks like this.... -35ish mL B Ionic dosed daily through a DIY dosing pump system -one capful of Kent's "Coral Accel" dosed daily -weekly 5g wc currently using Red Sea Coral Pro salt mix -approximately 80ish mL of Kents "Tech M" added to wc's to keep Mg levels up to par -Warner Marine potassium General stats. -NH3= 0 -NO2= undetectable -NO3= undetectable -PO4= undetectable -Mg= 1350ppm -Ca= 420ppm -dkh= 9 to 10 -Ph= 7.97 to 8.13 -S.G.= 1.025 sometimes 1.026 -temp= 77.7 to 77.9 Acjr's are sweet. Pics . The old AP24 that started my addiction. The tank pre water. Plumbing, even though it really doesn' look anything like this anymore. Spray bars (still in use). After the move to the new tank, and new house (all in the same day. Yes, it sucked) a few days later Link to comment
glennr1978
Where was I??? about 2 weeks in I added more rock. a few weeks later, funky looking leather out, more rock in. this poor orange monti never had a chance . I added the T5's at about 3 months. FTS (again at about 3 months). Some of the first SPS that I actually didn't kill! This is the best this acro has ever looked in my tank even though it is sooooo much more stable now (the acro is still pretty much brown to this day). 250 installed!!! before 250... after... glennr1978
I really miss the red zoos in this one, they were sweet. FTS. I'm guessing around 4 to 5 months. more rocks added. I made these myself out of rubble from marcorocks.com. my first "LE" frags fts time for a bigger skimmer (can't beat $60 shipped for a practiacally brand new CSS125) I finally unveiled my yellow tang that I hid from nr.com for about 4 months (it wasn't easy to get pics without the fish in them!!) gulfsurfer101
Looks alot more simpler than your 38 page thread you had going on, still an awsome tank. Guess you don't need me to tell you something you already know though. If it's one thing I believe, it's every guy needs a little tang. Link to comment

glennr1978
How are the chromis doing? I am down to 3... 11 strong. I count them every day now just to be sure......it's no easy task. They tend to spread out all over the tank now rather than schooling close together. When I put my hand towards the tank they bunch up instantly though. It's pretty cool. I feed the hell out of them, and think that is why there isn't much aggression amongst the pack. They are to full to fight!! See that purple monti in the last pic? Do you have any idea why the new growth is growing down instead of up towards the light? Link to comment
iglowce
wtf a short version? so should i subscribe to this one or the longer version? you made me confused...and more jealous because i have to go through the 50+ pictures of your tank Link to comment

Do you have any idea why the new growth is growing down instead of up towards the light? In my experience there is a good chance it is due to flow in your tank. Monti's (specially scrolling caps) tend to grow in accordance to Light and Flow. Link to comment

glennr1978
Cool starfish, did you add it or did it hitchhike? It's one of two sand sifting stars that I put in the tank about a week after I set it up. Sometimes I forget they are even in there, they usually stay under the sand most of the time. In fact, I rarely see both of them at the same time. About a week ago I saw them both so obviuosly they are doing okay in my tank. They will climb the glass like that about once a month. I also have two little emerald crabs that are even more reclusive. I hardly ever see those guys. Link to comment

That starfish has been in the tank for well over a year now, along with the other one I have too. They don't look like they've grwon any, but they haven't looked unhealthy either. Apparently it's not possible to keep sand sifting starfish in small tanks, much less two of them in a small tank. Funny, nobody told mine they were supposed to die I guess . Link to comment
