It'll be interesting to compare to my HM TDS-3.

Got mine and did a comparison. I wish it was better news.

First test: Tap water

First dip

HM TDS-3 530ppm IntelliTEC 675ppm

Second try

HM TDS-3 530ppm IntelliTEC 744ppm

Second Test: RO/DI from my Water General Model: RO 6100+DI

HM TDS-3 0ppm IntelliTEC 7ppm

Third Test: Tap Water again

HM TDS-3 540ppm Intellitec 684ppm

mine was cancelled too.. Odd though, cause i ordered mine really early... Sunday Nov 11 at 8 in the morning. Weakk...

See my test results. Even for free, it's pretty much worthless.

Did any1 with a canceled order ever get an email saying it "your buy.com order has been shipped"? I received that email last week but haven't got the tester yet.

Ditto. Just tested a few different samples last night when someone came over to pick up some corals. I have a Hannah meter and they got the new one. Wayyyy off.

Just got mine...works well. Tap water is 120 and my RO/DI is perfect. I love free things....and it comes with 2 SPARE batteries to boot!!! Great FREE find!

im gunna have to agree with it being not very accurate.

although i have nothing to test it against,..it says my tap water is 014 and RO/DI is 000.

it just seems like the Tap should be higher,...although i live in a condo & don't know if our water has a pre filter,...though i couldnt locate anything in view.

Mine was "cancelled"...terrible company...

Even if something is "Free", you still should not sell more of an item than you have available....

even if there is more free stuff up, I wont be buying from buy.com any time soon...

i think its a piece of crap. mine reads different for the same water almost every time. but,,,, mine did say 160 for the RO water i've been buying from the LFS so ///// need to get a ro/di unit of my own. i know the tester cant be that bad off.

will get some distilled and see what it says

The TDS meter is definitely garbage but don't be surprised if the water you've been buying is really that bad. I bought some once that must have come straight from a garden hose, 538TDS!

See my test above with this meter vs. my HM TDS-3.

It is testing total solids. This would be salt, calcium, all of the other elements that make up your saltwater. I think it is time to do a water change on your freshwater tank though. :D

mine went from TX to Earth City, MO (which is a st louis suburb) then to Wisconsin, then back to Earth City, then to my post office, then to my house the next day.......very bizarre

never done a water change in this tank before. its been set up for over 1 1/2 year, just clean the filter every once in a while and the water is very clear all fish are healthy and never had any disease :D very happy with the outcome of the FW tank
