Thanks for all the nice comments. This is my first saltwater tank and i am really enjoying the new adventure. I have been doing freshwater for 12 years and so i decided to start marine. Smurf, good luck on yours.

BTW Smurf, are your Biocube fans loud? Mine are really loud. That's the only disappointment i am having with my tank.

Ya it's turning out great. Yours is great as well. I am planning to add my first fish over the weekend.

I like your aquascape with the cave.

Thanks man, it took a lot of fiddling with the rock to get it setup like that and sturdy but i knew i wanted some kind of cave or something so i just kept at it till i got it.

What fish are you planning on adding? Im planning on adding my first coral over the weekend just not sure what yet...

I will probably get a pair of perculas. Maybe a goby...maybe. Then i will get a skunk shrimp. I am planning on getting shrooms, zoas, hammers, and frogspawn. I will be adding 2 more snails, nassarius.

I would love a xenia too. The pulsing makes the tank more interesting.

Tanks is coming along real nice! Your first pic had me going, I thought you were going with a bare bottom set-up. Believe it or not, there are some that do. Enjoy your tank, I know I've enjoyed mine! ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Update...

Got 3 nassarius snails... went to sand bed really fast!

Got my first coral... blue xenia.

Coralline algae starting to grow all over the rocks and glass.

Will be getting maybe 2 percs or 1 perc and a 6 line. Or just 1 6 line.... we'll see.

No not dosing anything. I want to keep it as stable as possible. My rocks were full of coralline when i got them... they also had little die off cause the store is 15 mins away. Don't worry... the coralline will show up... just be a little patient.

oh im not worried, just curious :) most of my rock didn't have much coralline on it to begin with unfortunately but i just added 2 pieces of LR that are covered in it while changing my rockwork, so that might help it along a bit...

I really like that xenia! I wish mine would open up that fast! It spent a couple days under a 1.5 foot giga clam...they didnt notice it had somehow gotten under there...and none of them were pulsing due to (so they said) the fact that their PH was slightly lower than they like and they were in an area of higher flow (which they apparently dont like)

I just got my zoos and mushroom. The mushroom is green striped... when the actinics are on it is fluorescent.Cool

The zoos are way more red but the picture kind of fades color.

And finally my cleaner shrimp.

Great Biocube!!! Question - Why did you take the bioballs out? i still have the original in there, should i take them out? What’s the purpose?

Link to comment

I took the bioballs out cause they usually store nitrates that can lead to very high nitrate build up in the tank.

They get very dirty over time and debris gets stuck in them causing nitrates.
