The tank has been cycled with Aquarium Systems Start Your Tank dose for a week now. The readings with Salifert test kits (Oct 9th) are

  • Tempurature: 25.8°C/78.5°F
  • Salinity: 1.024SG
  • Alk: 8.4dKH
  • pH: 8.25
  • Nitrate: 0.2ppm
  • Phosphate: 0.03ppm
  • Ammonia: 0.25ppm
  • Nitrite: 0.02ppm

It looks like the bacteria is doing something, but still far away from cycled. Hope the cycling process would finish in the programmed 30 days 🤞

Hi Rowena welcome to NR. I like your scape. Is this your first reef tank?

Thanks. It's my first tank, so I'm trying to do it slowly.

Equipments added:

  • Jebota-150 ATO for RODI water
  • Semi-auto water change
    • Unbranded usb peristaltic pump to suck water out of display (need to somehow break siphon as my waste water bucket is under the table. A tube divider might do the treak but if anyone has better solution pls lemme know)
    • Jebota-150 ATO for salt water top up
  • Lid (custom cut acrylic frame and mesh)
  • Chamber 1 media basket with a floss on top layer and bottom layer replaced the filter sock (carbon is in the middle layer)

Readings:

  • Ammonia: 0.15ppm or 0? Its very hard to tell in low range
  • Nitrite: 0.01ppm

Bacteria is doing its job 😃

The tank is finally cycle and had a large water change last night to reduce nitrate to 5ppm.

The parameters look okay and I added two ocellaris clownfish. The bigger one is full band and the smaller one is a misbar. The bigger one seem to be a bit aggressive towards the other one but I heard that's normal. I will watch them for a week and decide if its time for some easy softies.

The clowns are doing great so i brought home a gsp frag, a toadstool leather, a nassarius snail and a trochus snail. I added a AI nero 3 blowing through the space behind the rocks trying to reduce dead spots.

The leather is firmly attached to a rubble, so i placed it on the sand bed. GSP also cant be detached... so i tried to glue it to the back wall but it doesn’t stay... its now left on the sand lean against the wall... hope it will grow onto the glass

Ok i know ppl might be pointing fingers at me but i have added a BTA 2 wks ago and shes doing great so far. She only moved down a bit in the cave i put her in, so i think she’s pretty happy with where she is. I feed her occasionally with a tiny piece of clam or a bit of mysis/brine shrimp when i feed the clowns.

I have also added 2 more trochus snails and 3 turbo snails and have gone thru a diatom bloom. Despite im seeing minimal algae in the tank, my nutrient level remains close to 0 with aggressive feeding and no water change 😞

Also, im starting to see rocks gaining a green tint and purple dots….dont think its time for coralline algae yet but idk what else it can be …..

New addition is in today. A orange fungia with yellow frill. It looks so cute. I also put in a burnt sausage sea cucumber. It stuck between a base rock and the main rock structure….so its off the sand and not moving…… dont know what it wanna do
