Gaze into the ZeoVit Peninsula 🤣

[Gaze]

Just a little something to track my piece of the ocean. The Goal is to experiment and just have fun with the hobby. I’ve always been amazed by fully stable nano ecosystems and this is my attempt.

Tank: Innovative Marine NUVO 20 Peninsula 

Stand: IKEA SEKTION 30x15x30 Shelf 

Lights: Maxspec Razor R420 

Return: Mighty Jet Nano

Rocks: DIY Structure with Rubble Dry Rock

Sand: Caribsea Fiji Pink

Media: Intank Basket running Floss and Carbon

Skimmer: NUVO Ghost DCSkim
Heater: Cobalt Neotherm 75W (too long)

Wavemaker: Just using return for now (IceCap 1k Gyre I got has too much flow- considering Aqamai KPS) 

ATO: Smart ATO Micro

 

ZeoVit Experience CAPTAIN’S LOG :

 

6/3/20- Just started the process and excited to see the results of an Ultra Low Nutrients (ULN) system before my eyes and scientific approach to good reefing. Dosing is literally a few drops a day but there’s a serenity and simplicity to it. 
6/8/20- Just continuing with the process. Debating if ZeoVit is still the path I want to take for the tank. I’m mostly keeping softies and lps while the tank ages and they like their dirty water. Going to be fun tong feeding the elegance and goby! 
 

LIVE STOCK:

 

Fish: 

Two Clownfish (Black Snowflake and Snowflake)

 

Considering (not all lols): Yasha-Pistol pair, Snarknose Goby, Small Blue Star Wrasse, Tailspot or Lawnmower Blenny 

 

Inverts:

Just a few snails as tank doesn’t have enough food for shrimps and crabs to scavenge

Will for sure have a Blood Red Fire Shrimp!!

FULL TANK SHOTS :

 

6/4- Just got the IKEA stand home and built. Moved the tank from it’s cycling location to its permanent home. Started the ZeoVit method with the base package. Got a few corals from some local buddies and put them temporarily on the rocks- watching to see how they react during the starting ZeoVit process 

 

6/8- Added Elegance, Frogspawn and Yellow Clown Goby

6/25- Kinda gone overboard with the corals but everything is loving life 😅 got two fire shrimps also. Starting to see some algae but that was from over feeding so I can see the shrimps go nuts- will dial back feeding haha

 

7/05- Replaced the light with two Ai Primes and very happy with how well I mounted the lights above the tank.

If you want a goby and shrimp pair, they'd need rockwork to burrow underneath. The shrimp tunnels under and around rockwork, and you have basically none. You could probably put some very flat rocks over to the left there without messing up the look of your tank, and it would have the bonus effect of adding more biofilter space. 

 

Leopard wrasse get far too large for your tank.

 

Lawnmower blennies can work in a 20gal, but they do get kinda large, and eat a lot of algae.

Thank you!! I am too 😅 the real fun is when I can stock it up with a few more corals and start dosing some of the other additives from KZ. 
 

We have some amazing local reefers here in Houston so I’m excited to see if I can grow showpiece corals that they have in their 300+ gallon systems in my 20 gal AIO 🤣

Definitely for the yasha- Pistol I’ll do a cave build for them but underneath the sand is a pretty decent tunnel system for the little dude to do his thing. The sand covered up for than I thought it would. Ya, I’m still debating on the leopard wrasse.. I seeded the tank with EcoPods from AlgaeBarn and I’ve also been dosing phyto so once everything is established and I see a thriving colony of pods, a young one would live in paradise for a few months until I either upgrade or rehome the girlie. The blenny would be more of a utilitarian fish for the reef so I Wouldn’t get one unless I feel algae is going to be an issue. But with Zeos ULN, having a Tailspot with all that personality would be much cuter.

Few additions to the tank.. a little early but got an elegance and fragspawn from a buddy and a little yellow clown goby. His name is Goobs 🙂

He’s already claimed the elegance as his home but the clowns are getting verrrry jelly 🤣

 

Got myself an ADJ Power bar to clean up the cabinet and get everything automated

boo boo label maker died on me in the middle of labeling everything 😤

any tips or tricks you could share with that scape?  Do you use a base, a rod, etc or just a very well balance group of rocks?

Here’s a few photos of the process! I basically just built it one rock at a time with Super Glue gel and super glue instant set (stuffs amazing, one squirt and it’s basically one rock). I had a week before my tank came in so I had a lot of time to tweak it. Originally the structure was going to have a flat side against the back wall so I used a thin acrylic Sheet and glued the rock to that for support but I left the sheet too big and it’s a little hard to position. I’d still recommend the acrylic sheet for the base but cut it down smaller so you can get it closer to the wall

I love my scape, there are some caveats: not much on the bottom tier of the structure to block heavier flow so might be hard to find a sweet spot for some corals, you’d need more biological media for sure (seachem matrix, extra rubble in the sump, in my case zeovit is my extra media)

Got a little euphyllia garden and zoa garden going. Going to let them all grow and get full. Everything is going well but might try out a hydra 32 for the color spectrum or get a second ai prime HD to go with the one I already have. Starting to see some coralline algae growth on the return!!
