growsomething
Got him! Hope my mermaid cups grow back and my bubble algae doesnt. Will replace him with a tailspot blenny when they are available, starfush, and maybe something else? for continued algae control. Next up, a bristleworm trap. He ate my anemone shrimp after a molt. 10+". Why are the bad ones always guys? 😎 1 Quote Link to comment
kimberbee
What a cute little crabbie!! The contest is just about over, but Chris has said he will be lenient on the FTS during the year, because it was a rough year for everyone. I see you've missed a few monthly updates, but you've still got time to get your last FTS and your 2-3 paragraph summary done in time to qualify for voting. Just has to be done by the 31st! growsomething
Thanks, that's very kind of Mr. Christopher. I'm fine with enjoying this tank as is for years to come, and the different directions it has wanted to take, no contest needed. It was a good excuse to get a tank wet. My vote goes to tigaboiz macro tank! 1 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Just got an order from KP Aquatics. Its all very budget and nano friendly stuff. 1 yellow ball sponge (with a tiny hitchhiker starfish) 2 serpent stars (they send 3) 1 orange ricordea ( wish they sent 2 :)) not sure where the yellow sponge is going yet 1 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Just saw this snail with a purple sponge growing on it. I did something dumb. Was in such a hurry I dumped the starfish in the front of the tank and they got blown into the rfa and frogspawn. I had to rescue the one out of the frogspawn, he quit moving after 20-30 seconds. Lost all but 1 arm. The one in the rfa was able to extricate himself with 3 arms intact. I think I have an 11 month old problem. If daddy sticks his hand in why can't I... Here is the temp sponge placement They're selling this frogspawn for $175 per head at the lfs. This one has 3 or 4, and I am considering turning the whole thing in for credit or fragging it in 3 and keeping one. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
kimberbee
You still have a few hours to get your final submission done. You already posted a FTS for the month, so you just need a final tank summary!! I hope you can get that posted real quick to qualify for voting! Good luck!! Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Bunch of life on/in an old shrimp pail in Sarasota Bay. I am more interested in this than my tank! 5 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Got some coral warfare going on. Rfa is losing as the frogspawn increases in size (x3 in 8 mo.) The rfa has had to slide sideways about 1.5" so far, but the frogspawn is deforming itself to grow around it as well. Not sure if the rfa is splitting or just folding as it tries to move away. Tried shading the light with my hand. Quote Link to comment
growsomething
We have put ourselves on a strict budget during the last year. The tank has remained fishless except for a clown that jumped due to constantly startling, then being startled by, an emerald crab. The emerald crab was returned to the store and the factory netting gotten out of storage. I just ordered a tailspot blenny. Shhhhh. Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Tailspot blenny must not have been in stock at Drreef, as it's been several weeks and I only ordered "conditioned", not quarantined. Starfish (3) which fell into the frogspawn and large rfa are growing back the legs they lost. About 1/2" so far. One poor crippled guy has been hobbling around on one leg. Caught the 12" bristleworm with a longhandled grabber when he came out to feed. Only 5" was out of the rock, and he tore off at 3-4". Not sure if he dies and fouls the tanks or if he heals or grows the missing end back... Quote Link to comment
growsomething
I just ordered an ai prime hd 16 for this tank. I may use the nemo light over a 6 g fw flugal edge. Tired of texting the wife at 10 a.m. to press the 12hr time button the next day every time the electricity blinks. The cost of used AI primes are so close to new I figured it's better just to go new w Amazon, get the full warranty, no internal corrosion, etc. This is also on the down-low. shhhh 😎 1 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
I want to cut up the live rock and fill in the rest of the back wall, mount rfa's, key's zoas, sponges, tunicates, etc on the back wall rock, then just sand and low growing seagrass from the bay for a unique Fl biotope tank. Get rid of the frogspawn, indo zoa, gsp and xenia. Not sure that is possible without drying the tank. It pbly won't happen. Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Cool purple sponge. They're popping up everywhere. 2 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
The frogspawn has forced me to move a gorg from the best aesthetic position to next to the glass. Now I've had to move a declining acan. This thing is going to take up the entire back of the tank. From there to here! Deb beach, you get up early! 1 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Still making a tv/nuvo 10 stand a year later. I was given a mahogany boat leaning seat/drawer combo from a homemade 1940s fishing boat a customer's father made here. He found out some years back the boat was sunk and bought and raised it in honor of his dad. Gave me this after a remodel and asked me to make myself something of it. i want to make the legs 1/3rd shorter, but then the overall height would be too short. Think I'm leaving the wood unfinished for now, and remaking the drawer bottoms, the only thing wood that was compromised. This was built with amazing craftsmanship, and the wood is 1.125" thick 👍🏼 Below is how I was going to do the legs, but it doesn't look right bcs of the leg height, so I'll be doing just a square/rectangle above. debbeach13
I absolutely vote for the square legs. That is going to be awesome! 1 Quote Link to comment

growsomething
Enourmous arrow crab on the seawall, and codium out of the water. 24 minutes ago, debbeach13 said: Yeah I like my early morning sipping coffee and catching up on NR. growsomething
Huge, 3-4" nudi doing it's thing. Coral immediately to the left, sponge to the lower right. Quote Link to comment

growsomething
I go "fishing" every Sunday before the family gets up, for my mental health! Usually I wade in the summer, but walk seawalls in the winter. This is New Pass on Longboat Key, Sarasota Bay. Lots of plain hard coral growing here now. 1 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
New additions today. From KP Aquatics, 2 rfa, one stunning blue ricordea From Reefcleaners; porcelain crab, virgin nerites, 2 sexy shrimp (one cannot right himself, either in the bag, or tank. I'll have to keep and eye on him if I need to make a claim, but I'm sure my starfish will make quick work of him if he dies, before I can get a pic.) A special project I have is saving this acan. Moved him from the middle back where the ever growing frogspawn was going to envelope him, to the front, where he seems to like it better. The flow is much stronger. And finally, a limpet, apparently from my KP live rock order a year ago. 1st time I've seen it. That's all for now. No sign of the torn-in-half bristle worm for weeks. I believe the cleanup crew cleaned him up. My plans are to get the tv/aquarium stand up this wknd, then breakup the floor rock covered in green zoa (outdoors) and glue all the pieces on the backwall, then move the frogspawn floor rock sideways, so it can dominate the floorspace. 2 Quote Link to comment
growsomething
Decided today's the day to re-scape before our tsp comes next week from Drreef. Broke open the largest rock ... and there is the remnant of my bristleworm. Still alive, end healed over. The tank was so stirred up while I was trying to fit pieces on the back wall I couldn't really see what I was doing. We'll see what it looks like after the big family dinner at noon. Going to move it to the new tv/aquarium stand this afternoon. Quote Link to comment
