20L AIO build

Yeah this one is the final. Going to lay out plans and get a price to have it done and glued up next week.  If it's over my sons budget then have to order and cut it up out of 12x12 3/16 abs sheets.

Well few things happened.   Got a price on the AIO and had him do it.   He did it backwards and did not have have as many slots as I asked for and few other things.   Needless to say it ended up being $40 glued and I can not really complain at that price.    Anyways tested it out in the tub as its too cold outside now.  Also real bummer or local saltwater shop closed.  So now we have to make our own saltwater down the road and that puts us out few more months prob.

On to the pictures!

We just taped the in side with boxing tape my son wanted to test everything out before we sealed it up.  My friend printed all out lin-lock fittings and elbow in abs so that was cool after I found out what we needed on thingverse.  🙂

So for the slots I think it will be ok, the pump is wide open so its around 250 gph prob little less.  The water level is pretty good from what I can see in the tub. 😛

I think if I had one more slot it would have been little lower. We are prob going to put a surface skimmer in front anyways they are fairly cheap.

I think we are going to use half of the first chamber up for a rack and put the heater and what ever else we can cram in there.

Will prob post some pics soon as we glue everything up and get it installed permanently.🙂

I like that you settled with 3 chamber, instead of 4 you had before. I think you’ll get better flow this way.

Here is the AIO I had made.  I took the tank out of the tub and took everything apart.   Son was excited to see it run in the tub though.  I also had him cut the bulkhead hole for 3/4 for mighty jet upgrade if that ever happens 🙂

So if its still not installed. You might want to consider just a "water fall" overflow.

My first overflow. Thats now almost 5 years old. Was drilled holes. And after running it about 1 year maybe less. I cut from hole to hole and create a water overflow. Ive been happy with it. I have ran 2 IM tanks that have the slots and dont have a complaint. But thought id throw out the suggestion.

That was my first thought but he is worried about critters getting in there 😬.  Hopefully going to pick up some sealant sat. With the saltwater shop closed he is little bummed.   Are you mainly talking about not having comb weir, the five slots?

Sweet thanks for the link, just ordered it! I could not even buy that and the local stores or even find it for that cheap.  Next will have to make a basket. 🙂

Yeah when I was looking there was nothing local that even came close...…….

Just be sure to run some tape in there for some nice caulk lines as you will see it on the outside a little.

Well got it done and thought about how to do it for few days.  LOL  Son helped out and we were lucky not to make a big mess.

So I could have taped the back wall but just figure on running sealant on the edges and put it in place. Turned out decent and no one going to see it anyways.IMG_20200126_164652303.thumb.jpg.698966e7382314b8422315dad222ab33.jpg

Taped it all off That was prob the most time consuming. We also cleaned off the areas we were going to tape also.

IMG_20200126_164714210.thumb.jpg.16c02a4630dcae0f96c49a5b67531f9c.jpg

let it set for about 5 min and pulled the tape off almost messed it up.

IMG_20200126_165458845.thumb.jpg.f0de716e19c75375fd6b42188b01f0e2.jpg

At that point my son was getting nervous about messing it up but it turned out pretty good.

Nice side seams too.

Let it setup for few days then figure out the media basket.   We are 3d printing some trays  out of ABS that  I modeled up and hope they work out.

We cut the trim off to get the basket in and out.  I hope we can locate a table saw soon.

Her is the first tray. It has a brim around it so it will not pull up from the bed, but it looks pretty good.

I think we are going to try a 3 sided media rack depending on how tight the fit is. Also thinking about a spill tray to direct the water to the center.

Thanks, you guys have helped a lot. Yeah still trying to figure out the cycling , but seems likely waiting for stages of the tank etc. When it gets wet , we will start the official tank thread.

Coming along nicely!

Slow but it's moving. Pretty happy with it so far. Going to test the AIO chamber in the next day or two.

My first cycle was wet rock from the LFS. added a little flake food. Watched the critters come out and watched the algea bloom added a little CUC took about 5 weeks if i rememeber. Then 1 fish and waited a couple weeks.

The lagoon. I "cycled" live sand and kp aquatics aquaculture rock. I added ammonia and tested keeping my ammonia around 1ppm-2ppm until it was gone in 24 hours. It was a mini cycle

I should have given you my ammonia test kit, but they're cheap. The cycle is the biggest part not to rush.

Going to go with Fiji pink 20# bag.  Taking it slowly. Might try and see if can get a small piece of live rock to toss in maybe seed the tank.😁   Ways down the road though lots to finish up before that.

Figured we test the rear chambers.  There was a leak but it was from the acrylic glue that must have not gotten all the way through.  It was a very tiny dribble in pump chamber so not really worth the the effort and my son said he is ok with it.

The first fill up is a gallon so not bad for volume.

We are going to let it sit for a bit, but it all looks pretty good.

Going to start on the tray and when that is done hope will move over to a build thread for the tank. 🙂

With an Aio a little leak between the dividers wont be a catastrophic, but monitor it as a "weak" point might turn into a failure point and break the divider out.

With that in mind I'd use it.

Yeah tiny pin hole maybe even smaller. Will keep an eye on it but def not going anywhere. 😁

Great to see you making such good progress!

Well, not as fast as we would like. This is the easy stuff. LoL

Ok this is what I came up with.  Going to print this in 4 parts then glue them together.  The trays will be removable so we can put just about anything in there. If I had access to larger printer would have done less parts. LOL  Will post the final if we can get it printed up.  It will prob be a few days to get the prints done.287976188_mediabasket.thumb.JPG.115216b5be5ffaef28422009a05e336c.JPG

Two more little details I made up.  don't know how they will do but I don't want to run into the prob @I'm Batman ran into with the water flow coming in.  So I made up this spill way to see how it would work.

I thought about not putting teeth on the surface skimmer but thought would just try it out the way it is.   3d printer is coming in handy, good thing I know someone that has one that can run ABS. 🙂 Good thing Is if it does not work I can just toss it or seal it in place.
