Muffin's 2.5 Pico

July update: The fuzzy "lavender" mushroom is gone (good riddance). It was getting way too large in my opinion, also when I was at the LFS I saw one the size of a dinner plate so that was the point where I decided it was time to go. The bounces that got stung by the rainbow Yuma are recovering well and will be moved back with the next 2 weeks or so. I'm quite pleased to see how this tank is turning out, can't wait to see how it continues to develop.

Good call on getting rid of the mushie, I'm probably getting rid of my St. Thomas in my IM14 as it's getting so big and it's only 3.5 inches or so lol.

August update:

I moved both the pico and my 20 gallon last month to a new stand. Unfortunately, I forgot to put my lid on the tank and either my cats caught the nebula clown or she jumped out. In other news, all of the mushrooms are doing great, going to be fragging either this week or next to get some more coral/equipment money lol. Thinking about getting rid of the rainbow Yuma, it's a little to aggressive for my taste. I also need to get an emerald crab, does anyone have compatibility experience between pom-pom crabs and emeralds?

As always thanks for checking out my tank.

Late August update:

Livestock:

- I moved both Yumas to my 20

- Yesterday I fragged the OG, the crazy elephant ear mushroom (Rhodactis mussoides), and a super cool no name bounce that I've had for ~ 1 year.

- I added an emerald crab and high fin red banded goby about a week and a half ago (super cool fish), and a red banded pistol shrimp yesterday.

Maintenance:

This tank has been great, super easy maintenance. All that I've been doing  is scraping the front glass and performing 1 gallon water changes weekly.

Equipment:

Nothing has changed equipment wise. Still need to get an ATO lol.

So the goby and pistol paired up and burrowed up front and center! So excited lol (minus the sandstorm these two have been creating)

I got a terrible picture, but it's still pretty funny.

Wow it's been a while since I've done an update on this tank. It's by far my favorite tank I've ever owned.

Here are a couple updates on the system:

1.) I got rid of the black snowflake, I never really got the chance to get her a new home.

2.) I started using the HOB to hold frags and more shrooms.

3.) Water changes are about once a month now.

4.) No equipment changes, however I did change up the scape a little bit a couple months ago.

5.) Some shrooms were removed, and I've added a couple to the mix.

Now for a couple pics (sorry if you don't like orange filter pics)

Great to see your pico reef is still going @Muffin, all those bounce mushrooms are awesome! It sounds like it has settled in after its first year running and really stabilized.

Thanks! Yeah I'm really happy with how it's been running, I'm excited to see how it develops in the coming years.

Wow,the more and more I see awesome shrooms it makes me live them more !!

Same feeling here. I've been really lucky with acquiring quite a few of these shrooms. It's hard to beat the level of ease and diversity of mushrooms.

I have always wanted to keep just shrooms, because of how easy they are but I can never keep them alive. They are just so crazy, and come in sooo many colors.

I may have to try a super small pico with just shrooms here soon, that would be fun.

It's definitely possible, I would recommend it but I am biased lol. Contrary to popular belief, pico tanks are very easy. The hardest part is topping them off.

I know exactly what you mean lol. I don't have a problem with pico tanks,my biggest is 7g amd smallest is 2g but just keeping a like 2g with shrooms would be fun.

February update:

  • The shrooms are looking better than ever (not really sure why but I'm not complaining)
  • No stock changes
  • Yesterday I did some extensive maintenance on the pumps (didn't realize how dirty they where lol)

Teaser pic of my Evo 5 (not going to make a thread about it cause I'm too lazy 🤣)

I'll probably just occasionally add pics on this thread.

What's the story behind this little beauty? What do you have planned?
